Manchester United Thread

I hate when people say 'useless' trophy, its a CUP! FUCK! When did people get so spoiled, sure the Premier League and Champions League are priorities but I'd never call anything we can win 'useless'.

especially now, winning a trophy under the Moyes regime would be huge for confidence alone.

Let's not kid ourselves. The only ones that truly care about who won this one is the one who wins it. It's useless in the sense that it's possibly the least of the consolidation prizes one can win in a season and I still think that Utd is not the kind of club that only likes to walk away with that. In addition to something else though.. That d be the icing on the cake. But hey I agree with ya on the confidence end of things even though it might come a bit late for that to have some real benefit for the remainder of this particular season.

I wanted to react likeYounggun, but then you would once again call me an old fart...it's true...but i don't really like it.
And the loosing team in the final doesn't like it, remember Arsenal against Birmingham...the Gunners were gutted.

And now the old fart argument: there are hunders of clubs who would give an arm to win the league cup.

One can argue that United came where it is now by winning an FA Cup...who knows what where they would have been without that trophy...

The League Cup in 2006 could also be labelled as the coming of age of a young side too which went on to win Premier Leagues and a Champions League.

All cups are great victories. To play off opposition to the final and win. Of course, no one will classify this as a must-win or the highest of priorities. But it is still a nice cup to win and for the first year, it'd be great for Moyes to win anything.

All great sides start off with a cup win, SAF's first FA Cup, Class of 92's Youth Cup, 2006 League Cup...It gets the winning mentality into the players and helps gather us for the remainder of the season.

Of course, if we can choose between this cup or the League, or even the FA Cup, I probably would've chosen the other two, but a cup is a cup. We haven't won it in some time too...would be nice to get it.

I think it's important to note where we are as a club. Right now, the League Cup is a worthwhile trophy to go for, because we're legitimately not in the title race, unlikely to do anything in Europe and haven't shown the ability to beat the top teams in England.

So this season, I hope we go all out if we make it to the final.

But, in years gone by, when we've been challenging on all fronts and had to prioritise, the League Cup is definitely the lowest. I don't have any issue with that.

Hey if it means beating City in the finals I'd be happy but to say it would be the start of a new era of some sorts sounds a little silly when half the team is ready for retirement or should be released to make room for fresh blood.

I know I shouldn't say it, since we have to beat WH yet and I took it for granted that we'd win the FA Cup last year, but it will be a great final ...well, at least for us ;)

I hope Meulensteen brings out the old Fergie mentality that might've rubbed off on him during all these years on the pitch against City today :P

Argh, need an early goal. Cleverley should have scored in 2 mins, WHU milking every stoppage for about a minute at a time.

This is going to be tight, we've been weak against hoofball for years now, and no Vidic in there. Dominating possession but not creating much and WHU look dangerous with every punt up the field.

Hopefully won't matter, but Hernandez's goal was well onside. Awful decision from the linesman, who was bang in line and just seems to have not seen the full back.

Edit: That was Young's first touch.

You know what f*ck you West Ham. That's all 3 centre back who've gone through the back of our strikers, and the third is a red card offense, which could very easily have broken Hernadez' ankle. At 3-0 down. Bunch of thugs.

Great refereeing too, pulls back play for a red card challenge when Cleverley is 1 on 1 with keeper, and then gives a yellow card.

Where do the FA find these mugs?

1 shot allowed on target all match, which was down to Buttner not understanding defending.

That aside, dominant. Much more United like. Rooney was absolutely brilliant in midfield, pity he hates playing there!

Yeah Rooney was brilliant once again. If only we had a midfielder with his ability to pass the ball.. I'm often in awe how he can drop a ball in front of one of our players halfway across the field. That challenge on Chicha was horrendous... I thought he snapped his ankle in two.

And oh yeah.. Can we can rid of Buttner already? Thx
That step over thingy he did just made him look like an idiot

actually sneijder is like the second coming of paul scholes. I think they're awfully similar in almost every aspect. why don't you like him to join?

He's not really near Scholes level though, just little similarities in the style of play.

Good win today, hopefully we can keep things ticking over and get close to the top pack.

Could someone tell Januzaj to hit the weights? The wind blowing him over like that is gunna get him an awful reputation :P

But seriously he showed again what he can do, he's such an excellent player. But that diving has to stop, it's ridiculous! Maybe with age it will fall out of his game, but right now it's just so obvious that he wants to go down for everything.

Playing the devils advocate though, it might be that he's now expecting to get kicked by defenders (as he did at Fulham) that he just wants to get out of the way ASAP to avoid the flailing legs of the opponents. Of course it's assuming that the defender does in fact want to kick you, which isn't a good part of the game either way.

He's 18, considering he's already in the top 3 most fouled players this season I think along with some of the rough treatment he's gotten with being stamped on and so forth I can see why he's resorted to it at times. However its apart of his development, he'll learn from it.

It was a bad dive, no excuses for it really.

As usual, he'll be highlighted for the dive, but I doubt MOTD will have replays of the 3 lovely hack jobs by each of WHU's centre backs, including a third that should have been a red. Those are of course part of the game.

Huge win. Thought we were done at 2-0 down, what Evans was doing I'll never know.

We've scored as many goals at Hull this season as the other 8 teams that visited combined. And we weren't very good.

Thought Michael Oliver was absolutely awful. He somehow turned a good spirited match with no bad tackles into a yellow and red card filled grudge match - totally lost control. Above all things the ref is in charge of setting the 'mood' of the match and ensuring everyone's safety. He had no control whatsoever. Another piss poor match by an official this year.
