Manchester United Thread

Happy that Ronaldo thing is over with. Now we can focus on important things.. Like the future. I'd still like Utd to continue to be about the team and unity. Adding Ronnie to that would only throw whatever balance we may have out the window. Glad he got the recognition at Real w a new deal. Still wondering where the hell Real is getting all its money though.

56.1% of Spain's 16-19 year old population is paying for his salary if the government funding stories are to Hr believed, I wouldn't know too well though. It's only something we glanced at in politics, before moving on to Murican stuff, goddamit the constitution is a piece of crap to learn.. and we had to shrink it to just one page!

Cristiano Ronaldo - "Manchester United is the past. Real Madrid is now my home," he said. "I hope that I'm here until I retire. This is a great club."

This is interesting, apparently this a real reply to someone who took the time to write to United:
Thank you for your recent email to Ed Woodward, who has asked me to reply. There has been considerable comment on the Club's activity during the summer but most of it has been ill-informed.

The Club had two main priorities for the transfer window. The first was to keep Wayne Rooney. He is a world class player and the Manager is very keen to have Wayne as a key part of the Club's drive to retain the Premier League trophy. That aim was fulfilled.

The second priority was to add a midfield player, and the capture of Fellaini has met that need. Add to that the fact that Wilfried Zaha is a new signing and that the Manager has added the highly-rated young player Adnan Janazaj to the squad and the team does in fact have a different feel to it than the one that finished last season.

The Club has invested over £40m acquiring new players this summer, as well as re-signing Nani on a long term deal - more than it has traditionally spent on transfers. Additional resources were there to add to that but it was not possible to agree with other clubs for the right players to leave. The key point there is that the players we buy have to be the right ones for Manchester United; not just any player.

The Club has always backed the Manager in the transfer market, as Sir Alex has said on many occasions and it will continue to do so. The Club has demonstrated its belief in, and commitment to, David Moyes through the award of a six year contract. Allowing him to shape the future Manchester United team is a long term project not an eight week panic. He must be given time to assess his new squad and come to his own decisions on which players he feels will strengthen it.

It is worth pointing out that many of the players the Club was associated with during the window had never figured in David Moyes' plans and the name of Manchester United was being used by others to inflate players' values or raise the profile of their availability. Sadly in some cases, despite the fact that the Club informed the media of the inaccuracy of its reporting, they persisted in running those stories without any respect for the quality or truth of the output.

Thank you for taking the time to write.

Yours sincerely,

Philip Townsend
Director of Communications

Why doesn't Januzaj play more if all that is true ???

He's played in 2 of 5 matches so far, and it's not crazy to think an 18 year old with no experience wouldn't be right for Chelsea or Liverpool at Anfield.

He played more key passes in his cameo against Palace than Valencia and Young combined ;)

Also, just reading some match reports - do I just watch a different sport from the media?

I've seen the penalty that was given called, by various 'journalists':

- Arguably a second cautionable dive
- Minimal contact
- Simulation
- Jostling
- A 50/50 challenge

Don't get me wrong, I dislike Ashley Young as much as anyone and wish we'd sold him to some mid-level club where he belongs, but are these people writing based on narrative rather than fact?

He is on his way to a shot in a one on one, about 18 yards from goal, when he is initially pulled back by his shoulder, and the fully taken out with the defender never getting any touch whatsoever on the ball. In fact, Young's entire body was between the defender and the ball. It's so clearly a foul I don't even know what to say to anyone questioning it.

If it was outside the box, hadn't resulted in a red card and hadn't been Manchester United, no one would say a word. But because of those 3 things it gives the media the right to literally make sh*t up about something that is on video? I just don't understand how that works.

It was definitely a foul. It was outside the box. It was definitely not a clear chance on goal and Dikgacoi was not the last man.

Foul
No penalty
No seding off

Imagine this happening on the other side, Palace attacking and Man Utd defending.

Not even a foul given ???

I think its stupid for ppl to call for match bans on diving. I remember Young diving 2 days after Dudu big diving episode that cause the SPL FA to call for the riot act! Young is not bright nor pays much attention. If, Bale was rewarded w/ the PFA even though he had more yellows for diving then any other player in 'The Whole Wide world'. I think Young will be O.K.

Excited for tonight, should be a tough game, but saying that we are at home, so I hope we're not setup too defensively again.

Nani is suspended, Kagawa still has "a bit of flu in his throat" and Adnan won't be registered for the CL till October (Won't be homegrown till then) so are options are more limited than i'd like.

I think it makes a lot of sense. If I were a young player I'd look at City's recent history of bringing through their ELITE DEVELOPMENT SQUAD into the first team, and all the chances their young talent have been given.

Not to mention, of course, their vaunted English youth development system. I mean the team is practically built on that solid foundation that grew up playing for the Sky Blue's youth team.

Then you compare that with United, where Fergie practially broke apart the youth setup in favor of just buying the most expensive talent from around the world for his first team. It's a no brainer really.

Forgot about the Nani suspension. Just because I hope karma works, f*ck you Cakir I hope you twist you ankle badly this morning and have to retire from refereeing forever. You can still go on to have a meaningful profession in something else, but if you never step foot on a football pitch with the ability to ruin a match again, that will be too soon.

That out of the way, all the injuries and suspensions mean we'll get another Giggs inspired performance tonight. Expect limited movement, limited coverage on the left flank that completely unbalances the midfield and one exceptional pass that may or may not be converted.

Enjoying the U19s playing right now. What a great idea from UEFA - for those that don't know, before each match in the group stages, an U-19 team from each squad will play before the match, on the same match day.

Kagawa starts!! fantastic looking side.

De Gea, Smalling, Ferdinand, Vidic, Evra, Carrick, Fellaini, Valencia, Kagawa, Rooney, Van Persie

Whoa beach, two very bitter posts.

Truth.

Not sure about the right reaction to a story linking our brightest young talent to our rich neighbours who have literally not brought a youth product through in years.

And Cakir deserves all the criticism he gets. He made an actively wrong, inflammatory decision as a referee. It wasn't that he didn't see something (which is understandable) it's that he deliberately made a very poor decision, and instead of using common sense made a name for himself, in a match that required none of that heavy handed refereeing. If he were in other professions, he could well have been fired, or at least reprimanded. The man that is supposed to be 'invisible' in sport decided the match, rather than the 22 professional athletes. That rankles me, and I don't apologise for it.

Adnan isn't really our product though is he?

Besides I don't see him leaving and judging by his post neither does Godotelli :P Worthless article from the mail, what a shocker!

Nice team other than Velencia.

Zaha would have been perfect tonight.

I think Smalling will need help. Big Chris is a decent centre back, but quite a poor full back. He can't turn quickly enough to keep pace with wingers.

Weird that Zaha isn't on the bench, thought this might be a good opportunity. Maybe he's further behind first team level than we'd been led to believe.

Very surprised Welbz isn't on the bench either.

Excited to see Carrick/Fellaini/Kagawa midfield.

Zaha is a weird one, amazing pre-season, got his first England cap (though too soon in my opinion) and started in the community shield, but then nothing since.

Not sure what personality he has, but maybe Moyes is trying to keep him grounded at this stage of his career.

Beach, you're losing it buddy ;)

Lost in long ago, when we sold Ruud. Sniffle.

Good half. Dominated possession and created a few chances. Goal should've been offside - no idea what Valencia was doing there.

Loving the Kagawa play, but he does leave us a little exposed on the left side. His touch and vision look spot on, given how little he's played for us.

Fellaini has been excellent, barring one give away.

And who is this odd-headgear-wearing number 10? Motivated, fast, lovely touch? New signing?

You would feel bitter if Januzaj would move to City ?
How do you think Anderlecht felt 3 years ago when 15 year old Januzaj went to United ? That is exactly the same as Januzaj leaving to United.
And yes Januzaj isn't a United youth product although they refined him.

Selective indignation my friend.

Gerd is right, Januzaj should have stayed with his youth team in Belgium.

Anyway.

Great match tonight, typical United. Some ridiculous individual errors allowing goals, and some superb attacking play resulting in a few. Also some incredible misses, one each from RVP and Rooney.

But the 4th goal is world class. From RVP near his own box, through Young, to Rooney who weights it perfectly to Valencia to slam home first time. About 4/5 seconds, from defending to a goal. Can't wait for the gif.

Anyone hear the interview with Rooney afterwards? Haha he got a little bit annoyed and gave the interviewer a stern "LISTEN" when he was asked if his future was at Man Utd

He still couldn't bring himself to say he was happy though
