Manchester United Thread

Rooney was very well supported yesterday. In thesecond half he made a fantastic tackle near his own 16 which the public appreciated enormously and his name was sung. Imo Rooney was man of the match and scored lots of points with thefans for his commitment.
He has something unsympathetic but that is deceivng, he is an absolute team player and an example for younger players.

Yeah, he had great support all night and to be fair he was probably the best player on the pitch too.

Who did Giggs come on for? I think Welbeck earned his start so that was a lock and Rooney and RVP were also bound to play so I think Kagawa would have required circumstances to aid him in coming on such as Rooney being poor and our delivery being good he might have came on. It made sense to bring on Giggs and Young who both have very good delivery into the box.

Few confirmed things - looks like Eddy Woodward is finally back from Australia!

- Marnick Vermilj is on a season long loan to NEC
- Angelo Henriquez is on season long loan to Real Zaragoza

Apparently Leighton Baines has asked Everton to please sell him to United. Yippy. Another left back. Just what we need. I like Baines, but:
- Defensively he's no better than Evra (and neither are brilliant)
- Offensively we really don't need any more than what Evra offers
- He's only a couple years younger than Patrice

I don't get it.

Meanwhile, Michael Carrick continues to be our single point of failure, and no midfield signings in sight.

I've spoken about my suspicions before about the domestic cup 'random draws' but hey ho, it's Liverpool again, this time in the Carling Cup.

It's statistically impossible for us to have drawn our 3 largest rivals so much in the past 5 seasons (LFC, CFC, MCFC).

But hey, great for the media/TV stations! Romance of the cup and all that.

EPL vs EPL I think only Chelsea gets small clubs . I think its easier facing a team in the same league then a smaller league. The grounds are up to code .

That's true, but I really want an opportunity for our young players to get a run out in the Carling Cup, and am not sure that Moyes will go with that given the importance of any Liverpool v United match.

Much less the one where Suarez returns...

So, 4 days to go...at this stage definitely looks like it's the Everton duo or bust for United.

What a ridiculous tease this summer has been for United fans. First Fergie saying we'll definitely ad a couple new faces, then Moyes talking about his unlimited budget and getting players in before the tour...now a last minute bid for a player I can't really see why we couldn't have gotten in May. (Fellaini)

The fact that our club continues to generally do well on the pitch despite investing pennies on the pound compared to European heavyweights is nothing short of astounding. The Glazers have got this football thing down.

I understand we can't compete with the sugar daddy clubs, but if we really want to be considered up there with Bayern, Barca, Madrid and so forth, we're not going to be able to get away with this approach forever.

Maybe we'll get a midfielder next summer ;)

He gave the ball away a lot.

Valencia was Utd's MOM, imo. Fuck knows why the Moyessiah brought him off. He was the only player on the pitch that looked semi-dangerous

Really could of done with Nani vs Chelsea, I think he could have unlocked that defence, though Valencia's work rate was a massive asset in winning back possession his final ball was lacking.

Bit troubling to see him (Nani) being linked with Juventus yesterday, hopefully that's completely fabricated and he's happy at United.

Yeah, there's no team we could convincingly get 6 points off in there...maybe Leverkusen? Sociedad and Shahktar will at least be tough at home.

So Everton apparnetly value both Baines and Fellaini at £25m. Okay then. Good luck with fellas.

It's fine for Everton/Martinez to be happy with rejecting a £38m bid - but - that will put a lot of faith into the mentality of both Baines and Fellaini.

As much as they might not like to admit it, Everton are not a CL club and will not be a CL club anytime soon. Modern football's a bitch etc.

Fellaini and Baines are both good players, bought by Everton, who are probably not going to get a great number of opportunities to play at the very highest level. (Baines in particular at his age)

So if Everton take the stance that they will not sell their players to top European clubs on principle - that's totally fine. But don't be surprised if the next Fellaini chooses not to come to Everton because he knows that he can't use it as a stepping stone to further his career.

I hate that it is how modern football works, but it is the reality of the situation.

I think £40m for those two is highway robbery, and hope we'll say f*ck it at this point. See how Everton get on with Fellaini and his agent knowing Everton rejected a value above his previous release cause, and are preventing him from joining a CL club at the peak of his career. Looking at objectively, why should a Belgian international who has given a few years good service to a mid-table English club feel like he is unable to move up in the football world?

I thought the draw could have been worse, remember those sides will take points of each other and I think its safe to say were a level above them all.

Nani's finally signed...for US!

Marotta : "Nani has extended his contract with United and we (Juve) have no deal with him."

YES!!! Glad that Nani has extended his contract with us, but how come there's no official word from United?

I can't say I'm happy with this draw, but we should be able to progress. Will have some interesting games as it is Moyes' first time in Europe and playing away at these stadiums will not be an easy task. But I think as they'd take points off each other (as YoungGun says), as long as we are able to win our home games, we should progress...

With the talent at this year's CL, I don't really think finishing first or second matters that much for the Round of 16 clashes. As long as we qualify, then it's all good.

haha, almost posted that myself, brilliant.

Bid for Herrera confirmed, still hard to believe we've actually bid for midfielders this year, won't mean a lot if our bids keep getting rejected though! :P

Surely Ron should be the biggest whale at the bottom, otherwise good effort :))

Surprised that Herrera bid was legit, turned down though :((
