Manchester United Thread

Sometimes I wonder if he really is out there for himself or just simply not very bright, I'd like to give him the benefit of the latter. Doesn't take away its annoying as fuck.

P.s with Chicha not joining Utd on the trip..RvP not joining til Australia, and Rooney injured, I guess that leaves Welbeck as our CF against the Thai team? :BRMM:

Oh my fuck, Welbeck is awful as a striker!!

We do have Zaha, he is supposedly capable of playing up front..

Pipa you dont see its their end .... :D

He's right. I've already bought some bleach and blue dye, but even with my white away kit getting that sky blue color is bit tough.

The only upside is how easy it'll be to get tickets to OT when we're in the Championship.

Rooney back from the Tour with 'niggling injury'. Must be writer's cramp from practicising his signature too much on all these contracts he's about to sing with Chelsea/PSG/Arsenal/Madrid etc.

There are other midfielders in the world, and to be honest I hope we at least make an offer to Thiago. Come be a starter at one of the best clubs in the world or go and be a potential player at another of hte best clubs in the world. Tough life.

Don't worry, Fletcher will be like a new signing. As will a fit Anderson. And a fit Cleverley. And maybe Jones has learned to pass this off season.

Also, Saturday is gonna be amazing. Welbeck up front by himself! Magnificient. I'd play Giggs there ahead of Weblz.

Beach, I love you.

Other midfielders who seem to always slip away from United though! Like De Rossi det for Chelski and we are just letting that happen!!

Can I just by a show of hands : Who thinks Welbeck is a useless fuck?

I find it sad and amusing how some of are actually serious, people crying about lack of striking options for pre-season? Really?!

worst case scenario, we sell Rooney and buy Gibson, nothing to worry about :))

I'm not really worried but it is kinda funny we re down to one "true" striker ATM for that first preseason game. No kagawa til Japan either otherwise he could play a deep 10 type of role like he did in the first leg against Madrid. Still..no disrespect to the Thai all stars but we could probably play Lindegaard as striker and still be fine.
Do feel kinda bad for the fans over there that they are getting a bit of a B selection without Nani, De Gea, RvP, Rooney, Chicha and Vidic. Those are some big names missing but perhaps the Thai fans are just happy to see United in general. I'd guess guys like Rio and Giggs are pretty huge over there as well.

I could care less about the pre season. I'd love to see a reserves team out there against Thailand all stars or whoever. I just wish we'd get a midfielder in to replace Nicky Butt, Roy Keane and Paul Scholes, and have wished that for almost a decade now. I thought my prayers had been answered with Owen Hargreaves, but turns out those Germans are pretty clever.

(yeah yeah, lots of success since then - I KNOW - but to dominate games the way a team with a midfield does...bliss)

Anyway, maybe we can go back and hijack Roma's Strootman deal. That seemed much more like a United signing. Young, relatively unproven but with a strong mentality. We don't buy superstars. (Veron and Berbatov aside, 2 out of maybe 40 signings)

One might also include Rooney, Rio Ferdinand and Cristiano Ronaldo in that list. They weren't exactly world stars but both Rooney and Ferdinand were wanted by every single English club that had enough money, as for CR, every single big European club would have bought him if they could...

I'd include RVP of course, odd how that one slipped my mind!

Can't include Rooney in that though, despite his price tag. He'd barely played half a season at the top level, and was just 18. He played well in 2 matches in the European championships, that was about it. Hardly proven!

Ferdinand...maybe. Most people thought he was overrated at Leeds.

I'm talking truly world class buys. Transfers like Zidane, Ronaldo (real), Kaka, Figo, Cannavarro, Maldini - that kind of thing. United don't tend to tread in those waters.

Don't really agree with Rooney. But as for the rest of your post, i do agree.

Have to agree 100% with you there. Every year were linked with a major signing and every year we miss out and this year looks no different. When are the money men going to realise you don't get top players on the cheap. It makes my blood boil thinking of player who have got away if you can believe the papers. I'm going back to when essien and robben were at carrington and still we didn't get them

:CONFUSE::CONFUSE::CONFUSE: wtf!?!?!

Idc about any star signings we may or may not make.. I just want a damned midfielder! I'm actually hoping this presumed double deal for Fellaini and Baines goes through.. even thouhh I don't rate either as highly as thwyre out to be, at least they can play.

Judged by the reactions in this thread, Moyes will not have much credit. I really hope for him Man Utd take a good start.

Let's play a game: Man Utd fans, at which point you want Moyes out ?

First 3 games all draws. Moyes out or not ?
After 10 matches United is 12th. Moyes out or not ?
By Christmas United is 10th, 18 points behind the leaders ? Moyes out or not ?
United is playing good football, but has difficulties winning matches. Moyes out or not ?

When i write this, it looks as i'm anticipating schadenfreude. That is not the case. As a matter of fact, i want United doing very well next season because i'm a Moyes fan...i think he performed exceptionally with Everton.

I've made my thoughts clear on Moyes, so my answer to Gerds question is a shock even to myself. Even if Moyes fails to secure champions league football this season, I won't be calling for his head. I will begrudgingly stand by him for two reasons. United have never been a quick fix football club, Fergie built this club from the ground up (not literally but you catch my point) and even he wasn't a instant success, it took him 2-3 years to begin establishing his style on the club, so its only fair Moyes is stuck with the same time frame.
I feel managers can only be a success if they're given the time to stamp their own aspect on club they manage, and even if I dislike the football we play in the coming years, even if we lose games in the last minutes because Moyes hasn't got the same tactical know how needed to win a big 4 game and even if we are stuck outside the top 4 for the next three years. Moyes is the man for United, because stability will mean more than instant success.

It also helps he's British and I am among those who believes British and English managers are not given the time they need.

The difference with Fergie was football was a different game , when he started. Look at Wenger for example building a new stadium he still can`t win in the modern day (adapting to higher wage demand). We all said Moye over achieved w/ Everton in the modern day and him having a bigger podium might be a well deserve accolade for his achievements at MUTD.

I hope we stick with Moyes for at least 2-3 seasons. If at that point we're still not competing for the league, then I think we'd have to look elsewhere.

Everyone and their uncle knows that Fergie was the only reason we've won the league over the sugar-daddy clubs. The reality is that we don't have the best first XI, and we don't have the best squad in England, never mind Europe.

As long as Moyes competes and has us trying to play attractive football, I've no problem with not winning trophies. At some point the sugar daddies have to get tired of losing money every single season, and that stage the Arsenals and Uniteds of the world will be incredibly well placed to prosper.

I echo those sentiments about Moyes. The only reason I could see to push him out early is if he doesn't take the same pride in United as SAF did and/or fails to uphold the no bullshit/no one is bigger than the club attitude SAF had.

3rd should be the minimum target. I'd personally find that acceptable for Moyes first season but I think he would find that as a failure.

That could change though depending on what players arrive or even ones who might leave.

So Moyes has insisted that we are negotiating deals for several top targets, and also is set to "turn his intentions on Candreva if he misses out on Thiago.

So by next week we will have Fellaini, Baines and Pienaar in place of the expected signings of Thiago, Lewandowski and Ronaldo.. Christ Moyes ain't making this easy on us.

Believe! Don't forget that SAF is still working for the club so perhaps he s working some magic while the team is on tour

Nice!

Look, we tried to sign Thiago it didn't work out, atleast he's moving targets unlike SAF who whilst always cherry picking the perfect midfielder if he missed out on Thiago would probably not settle for anyone else.

We need someone to come in, it will make a world of difference even if its not a world class talent at the minute.

Whatever, if Thiago had come he seems to be another of the 'back to Barca in 3 years' type player. Not the kind you build a team around, despite his talent, because he won't stick around.

Disappointed, but can only move on. We HAVE to buy a midfielder.

Also, Adnan Janusazj is the bees knees :) He's my new Big Dave Jones/ Giuseppe Rossi/ Morrson/ Pogba/ Daehli (who left)

It is possible of course we've been pursuing Thiago as a way to distract our competitors from our actual target! That or I'm telling myself that to make feel better. But you're right beach, we need/want players that stick around for the long haul. Transfers like RvP are very unusual for Utd.

Don't forget we still/already have some of the world's finest footballers on our team. :BOP:

Looks like we're gonna lose Moyes' first match. I comfort myself in knowing that I always seem to lose my first match in FM/PES/FIFA when I take over, and then pick things up.

This Thai All Star team is seriously well organised. I missed their goal, but since then it's been about 7 players marking Welbeck in the box. They must never have seem him, you only really need to leave 1 player on him in that area ;)
