Manchester United Thread

In my oppinion, Thiago is much better than Wilshere, except in the regularity department. If Thiago manages to keep a high form for many matches, then he will turn into one of the best midfielders out there.

That, and learning he can pass the ball without any flair, just a simple easy pass without lookeing elsewhere or adding some flashy movement. Many times he looses effectiveness because of style. But in terms of raw talent, Wilshere is nothing compared to him.

Per Moyes' press conference : Rooney is not for sale. Instead, we're giving him to Stoke. ;-)

Moyes saw a glint in Rooney`s eye  remember?....Lescott is not for sale either! Arteta is not for sale. That means talk is cheap you want Rooney show us the £££ ! I think Rooney is bored w/ the selection of mates at MUTD, no fun to chill out with.

I just watched the press conference, Moyes is more positive sounding than the press have made it out. Sounds more like he met with Rooney and the focus is now on getting him in good shape for the WC and to break some goal records for the club. Maybe committed to putting him back up front and stop screwing with his position.

Maybe switch RvP and Rooneys roles more often that Fergie did, that'd work out well for these two.. not so much for our Little Pea.

I doubt that's what Moyes meant really, he just kind of avoided the fact Rooney declared he 'wanted' to stay but I think the decisions been made for him (atleast for the time being) that he has a contract and hes going to honor it.

I think Rooney's fine in that '10' role, especially if we can wrap up that 'Boy from Barcelona' along with Carrick then we won't need him deeper.

I thought Rooney wanted more quality players. So if we do manage to get 1 or 2 then why leave? That's what he wants no?

No what he wanted was a salary increase, at the time he was our best player and indispensable having rushed him back for a CL game when he wasn't fully fit a few months prior, he felt he had all the power.

Sir Alex had a masterstroke in turning that momentum around by airing Rooney's laundry in public with the sad face which won over managers and neutrals all over. Then he cut-ties with a large portion of the support with the statement he released about us not being ambiguous enough, which never made sense but as O'Shea revealed in his book that once Wayne had signed his new deal he apologized to the players and said something to the effect of "I did what I needed to do" in order to get the wages he wanted.

today he's still a brilliant player but in all honesty he's not our best player nor is he one who can't be replaced either, a combination of Kagawa/Van Perise through the middle is already in place, we'd have to strengthen out wide IMO but its not the doom and gloom we faced when losing Ronaldo or even the fear of losing Rooney two years ago.

If he wants to go, im happy to thank him for the trophies and great service and let him leave, that would have happenend IMO had Sir Alex remained but Moyes doesn't want to rock the boat too much early doors which makes sense.

I wouldn't be shocked to see him stay this summer and be off next with replacements in place to compensate.

Been reading that Thiago Alcantara could be announced as earlier as Monday ofc this is English papers, so if anyone could find Spanish sources, excellent! :)

Also Powell could be loaned out to Norwich, good club, good coach and food experience hope it happens.

I hope, it's a huge signing for us.

Only problem is by the end of this season we'll likely be on the hunt for Carrick's successor, hopefully that doesn't take 5 years like Scholes did.

Been all over the radio here, that Thiago agreed a move to United. And it's all just medicals and whatever now.

I am so excited about this transfer. I will be quite disappointed if it falls through. The thought of seeing him in a Utd shirt and the pace he would bring to a midfield that sorely needs it, is thrilling. Thiago, Rooney, Kagawa, RvP, Chicharito, Nani (hope he's staying!) leading the assault, will be amazing, especially if Rooney gets back into shape AND his heart is still truly with United. Haven't seen much of Zaha but hope he turns into what he is cracked up to be. Another FB/LB would be ideal. Buttner needs to go on loan somewhere.

Edit: forgot to mention Januzaj probably coming into the first team this year and I have a suspicion that this will be the season Welbeck will come into his element! *crosses fingers*

I'm loving the 'transfer ambition' of signing someone like Thiago - not to mention the fact he's a midfielder - AN ACTUAL MIDFIELDER - but I'm not 100% sure he's going to fill the gap we have in that position.

I'm still not sure that a Thiago/Carrick partnership provides us enough steel and ball-winning ability in the centre of the park. Definitely helps with the ball retention issue, but not sure how it would fare against the more robust teams in the league and Europe.

On paper, it looks devastating though:

------------De Gea------------
--Rafael---Rio---Vida--Evra---
---------Carrick--Thiago------
------------Kagawa------------
----Nani-------------Rooney---
-------------RVP--------------

This midfield needs a Roy Keane, oh my yes. We need an Irish destroyer.

It really doesn't, we won the League and Champions League with Carrick and Scholes, the pairing of Thiago and Carrick is more robust than that.

Depending on the Nani situation we need a wide player IMO, I think last season it proved how bad we were outwide which is a fundamental position with the way we play.

Obviously we could be holding out for you know who but I hope we keep our options open, someone like Di Maria or Sanchez could be cut price options on the market.

Please can we have a Keane, he was my favourite player at the time.. even just for breaking cities players in half?

Also, if we take anyone else from Madrid I hope it is Di Maria, I really like him.

All players we are linked to eventually find another club to sign. Are we not paying the price, not even looking at those players or have lost all attractiveness to people from all leagues??

Honestly, apart from buying from other EPL clubs, we don't seem to be able to sign many players we're linked to. Especially promising future talent when more than one club want them (Sorry Kagawa, I love you, but apart from us, you weren't linked to other clubs, so you don't fall into this category)

Probably the fact Mutd were not interested in those players and agents just fed the media . Mutd priority aren't players , but staff n organizing atm . There's still lots of time to get players.

That's because Kagawa had his heart set on United, their was interest from Real Madrid. The notion we struggle to sign players is silly, when we actually get a 'target' that were interested in we may sometimes miss out but I doubt Strootman is one of them, if we fail to sign Thiago you can definitely add him to the list though.

Strootman is not a player for a big club like Man Utd...

I've posted my thoughts on him before in one of the transfer threads so I won't go over them again but, I always thought with the correct coach and the right application of his abilities the kid could become something special. I haven't seen loads of him so couldn't be sure :)

I do like Strootman, I think we'd be the place/push he could be a nice midfield player we need/use. Who knows when Fletcher will finally feel better again, and as much as i love anderson, i think the staff gave up on him. Apart from Cleverly and Carrick, I'm struggling to name quality CMF/DMF in our squad. We all agree that Giggs shouldn't play there.

I doubt Moyes, in his first year, will give much of our academy stars chance in his first season

Interesting that we've not made any signings for the tour. From a purely promotional standpoint that would have made sense to me.

Boys back in training today, Rooney lost his hair (again!) poor lad. Does look trim, as does a certain Anderson. Bunch of youth training with the first team, wonder if Petrucci might get on the plane. No sign of Adnan though.

Fabio was wearing 22, so think that might be his now. Big season for him, turned 23 today I believe, somewhat last chance saloon at United.
