Manchester United Thread

It's not just linked to bringing on Giggs or Scholes though.

We've been like this for a good while.

Come out of the traps flying and batter a team for twenty minutes, create loads but only score one or two and then back off and let them attack us.

Cannot remember the last time we properly trounced someone, probably the 7-1 against Blackburn two/three years ago.

The teams of the 90's would be battering most teams left, right and centre with the state of the league these days.

SAF keeps saying he's annoyed at our complacency in interviews and yet does absolutely fuck all about it.

For the first time in recent memory, for a mere 30 minutes, that was Manchester United playing out there today. Great movement, use of width, energy, chance creation and finishing. The feeling that another chance was just a minute away, that anytime we won the ball back we were marching down the other end with intent. Genuinely refreshing and somewhat optimism-inspiring.

However, we then went back to our shambolic best, replaced a good midfield with Scholes and Giggs and pretty much stopped playing. I guess you can do that when 3-0 up though.

Yeah feels like we're clicking at the right time,

swansea away will be tough then two back to back home games before we go to wigan.

Swansea are excellent at home, but bizarrely I could see us going for our 'European away' type tactics - soak up pressure and break dangerously. I think the worst thing teams can do against Swansea is over-commit trying to get the ball back. They're often not very dangerous in possession, just let them have it til the final 3rd.

We'll see though. My real fear is that we have 4 games in 9 days without Anderson as an option, so at least a couple of those are going to feature Giggs, Fletcher and Scholes in midfield.

Really hope Kagawa and Nani (remember him?!) get fit sometime soon.

I don't think he's considered an option so theirs no point remembering him at this point.

Yeah, We really need Ando back when it comes to options, Carrick with either of Cleverley or Anderson is the way forward. We also now really need to look for an alternative to Carrick but probably holding back due to Scholes.

Guess Strootman would be a lot cheaper in June than in January ;-)

And aye we probably won't see Nani on the field for United again unless all the persistent rumors about him being out of favor with SAF are inaccurate. Even though SAF says otherwise..I'd be surprised if they seriously wouldn't make any moves on the transfer market next month. At the very least we can expect them to sell/place some players on loan.

This guy hates Alan Sherear and Man Utd have never lost a game when he's been in charge.

taking a step back here and putting things in perspective; Real has been far from consistent this season and while it sucks to meet them this early...if you want to be he best, you have to beat the best. Real is not the best right now. Still, its a team w a ridiculous amount of talent, and one that is dangerous no matter what form hey are in...sounds a bit like our favorite team, no?

Great chance for De Gea to show he could be Spain's future in the goal...going up against the likes of Ronaldo and Ozil.

Think i would have preferred any other team in that draw than real madrid, if anyone in that draw knows how to win against us, its jose.

madrid aren't doing to well in the league sure but correct me if i'm wrong but only big title mourinho hasn't won with madrid is champions league and that will be there main aim and with player's they have, they could really damage us considering how often we leek goals.

will be interesting tie but as a realistic fan, i don't expect to get any further than this.

We'll need a bit of help from Barca in tiring them out before the second leg.

If we can revert to our European style in the past and keep it tight at the back, we'll have a decent chance.

:DD Can't Wait. Amazing tie and exactly what the European Cup is about, either we'll progress with immense confidence to go all the way or we'll exit in February to focus on regaining the Premiership.

That's too funny. In the practice draw we got Real as well! Odds of that are pretty slim...

Still a big glamour tie. Can't complain. And Ronnie's coming home!

Also, The One now has 8 goals in 14 games for Hannover this season. He's averaged better than 1 in 2 since he moved.

Let his radiance shine over you.

Edit: 21 in 33 since signing!

I would have feared playing last seasons Madrid much, much more. This season they haven't been anything special yet. I'd be confident that a inform United would beat Madrid all be it with all key players fit. Two month away yet too, anything could happen

Good to see most folks look forward to this more rather than fear it. When life gives you lemons..make lemonade, right? Based on what I've seen in the press thus far I am pretty sure Real isn't quite confident about this one either. As I stated in the Champions League thread..neither has really put in a string of consistently impressive performances this season but by God if they both come out to play this will be fun to watch for fans of football, regardless of their allegiance.

Will it be Rooney, RvP, Ronaldo, Ozil, Benzema, De Gea, Casillas, Ramos, Vidic, or hell Alonso, Khedira, Kagawa, or hell Cleverley to take the spotlight? Will Ferdinand, Evra, or young Smalling become heroes of defense (or attacking in the case of Evra..seriously dude..know your place sometimes), Rafael, Ando..or heck Kaka coming off the bench being a super sub or perhaps Chicarito? The possibilities are mouth watering.

Am I excited? You bet I am :BOP:

Getting a bit ahead of myself but Real look to be in shambles, imagine, up in the tie, Old Trafford Rocking and Ronnie has his hands on his hips wondering why he left us :...

I'm not sure we'll beat Marid (they still have a signficantly better team than us) but it's the kind of tie that the CL was made for. Plus the Ronaldo (real one) show from a few years ago is still one of my all time favourite matches ever.

You will beat madrid imo.

They HAVE to win, the league is over for them... you don´t HAVE to, the pressure is on their heads to win at least a trophy this season..

I hope so mate. I know the majority of EPL fans might not wish a lot of luck upon United but with Arsenal and us left in the Champions League it would make the entire league look a hell of a lot better if at least one of the 2 would go through. This is the "best league" in the world after all. :BRMM: Either way it's a fantastic match up, one that hopefully won't disappoint.

Really need to do something about the right wing, Valencia needs to be dropped, I'd rather double up with Jones and Rafael than him at the minute.

Can't complain too much. We have absolutely dominated Swansea in the second half, in a very tough away fixture. Hit the post twice, off the line twice.

Kind of funny that, best performance over 45 in a season, and that's the game we FINALLY draw. Haven't deserved to win often this season, but did today.

For all the chat about how wonderful Swansea apparently are, they were utterly dominated there. If we'd had a player on instead of whoever that Wayne Rooney lookalike was, would have scored a hatful.
