Manchester United Thread

Well, seeing how PSG are dropping points in silly matches...

No wonder ;).

Spent the most dough during transfer window and in doubt if they will win Ligue 1 ;).

Alrighty, hoping for a result this evening. Tough to go away (and that stadium is amazing!) and win in the CL but if we can nick a point that more or less ensures qualification. Given we're now out of the league cup, some of younger/fringe players should get a chance if we can win tonight. Also allows us to focus on the league for the next few weeks.

Not sure what team Fergie is sending out - good news is that Chris Smalling might FINALLY be back playing, which is a huge deal. Should have some rust (been out more than 6 months) but he can be a great player. Chicarito likely to get a start, would hope to see Nani too.

Hope Chicharito starts and continues his recent scoring form.

Another one or two from him tonight would be lovely. Same for Wazza please.

Think it'll be a tough match in reality though. They proved at Old Trafford that they're very comfortable on the ball and their forward line is very inventive and tricky. Have to be on our toes defensively (we're fucked then) and make our chances count when we get them.

Dear Sky. Having a bitter, bitter ex-Manchester City player keep commentating on Manchester United matches is really, really tedious.

That is all.

see none of the english media saw wayne rooneys dive tonight, the double stantards of them all sickens me

Is whoever created that GIF on a windup? It clearly misses a few frames at the point of contact? I can't tell anything from that 'video'.

In real time I thought it was soft, and that the contact happened as he was going to ground.

If you'd like videos of clear diving, I'd be happy to provide those for you.

Four games.

Four absolutely fucking awful performances.

Four wins.

I'm genuinely starting to believe the players are bored so they're deliberately letting the opposition take the lead to make it interesting for themselves. Fucking ridiculous.

Shocking how Mutd get lots of calls their way, even in Europe. Liverpool, Chelsea, and Arsenal had players send off. I thinking City will have a few sending offs soon , when they play each other:LOL:

I think Rooney`s dive looks worst due to the wet pitch.Even if Mutd lost tonight ,their still on top and going through. Who cares... Chelsea had all the refs on their corner last season. I think City is the one that are not getting a fair look at. I hope they lift the title and save Mancini`s job! Keep the circus in town!

Needing a dive to beat braga

Utd wouldn't even get 2 points from our group!

Hahaha, you don't realize how pathetic and hypocritically you sound, do you? ;) City's supporter are telling us how to play in Champions League after drawing with Ajax on their own pitch... aaaand drawing with West Ham... Go to your thread and do your monologue there.

How am I being hypocritical?
How am I telling you how to play in the Champions League?

He's right Telli', your assumption we'd be struggling on 2 points in your group because if the 'Mighty City' can't get out of it we can't is silly.

How is he right? It doesn't follow.

Not basing my jokey remark on City. I'm basing it on the opinion that Utd aren't as good as Dortmund ( who also drew against Ajax) and Real. I'm pretty sure Ajax would be no pushover (like teams like Braga should be) for you either.

We should be doing better against Ajax, no doubt about that, but even then if we had got 6pts off them it'd be difficult to progress.

TBH I don't care what Utd do, it's just banter, but I bet if you face Dortmund or Real in the
latter stages they'll beat you. I'll hold my hands up if you do them tho.

As a side note, I think the top 2 of England are inferior to both the top 2 of Spain AND Germany. ....and part of the reason for this is that both Germany and Spain create better footballers than England. Apart from one or two exceptions (Hart and Rooney) the German and Spanish big 2 have far, far superior homegrown nationals. Our best players tend to be foreign and the weaklinks (when it comes to CL) English.

Ifs and buts about teams winning or losing. MUTD was out of group last season, while City were 2 again. Dortmund couldn't qualify last season. Look at how Celtic won yesterday...the media said they'll have a better chance for Obama to claim aliens are real before they would get a result out of Barca. :P

Height of wit there.

Worst bit, despite being a YouTube this time, the moment of contact is again skipped, so I still can't tell.

I'm not one to say Rooney doesn't dive - he has done several times in high profile situations - but I'm not sure about yesterday. Full speed, awful, soaking pitch and Rooney definitely played the ball.

I know it's hard for fans of other teams to imagine having a player who would nick a ball past a defender and go down, but try to use some imagination.

12 points. Top of the group despite being behind in 3 matches, and never playing all that well. Must be a conspiracy.

Football fans suck.

You want to pick your targets better. In the past 24 months the media has gone on Rooney 'witch hunts' not once but twice.

Once for his off the ball elbow on McCarthy - it was back page news for a week - and of course his 'what, fucking what?' into the camera - which after a media onslaught brought about the first and only ever ban for using foul language in the premier league era.

I know you're trying to compare to Suarez, but I think you're missing 2 things:

1. Even those with an agenda wanting to see a dive can't see it in this case
2. Suarez does it virtually every match, whereas Rooney's gravitational problems occur a couple times a season

A better example would be last season after Young 'earned' penalties in 2 consecutive matches, and it was impossible for the player to be fouled without 15 replays, pundit discussions and what not as to whether or not he'd gone to ground too easily. And I'm pretty sure Ashley is English.

More importantly, 'The One' (Diouf) now has 17 goals in 25 appearances for Hannover. Not too shabby.

ive no interest in suarez per se(tbh i think he's a scumbag),im just making the point that english media protect all the "3 lions" while johnny foreigner is seen as a "cheat". you will not rid the game of diving if the media has one rule for "us" and one rule for "them"

Did you not follow the English press with Young a mere 6 months ago?

We don't need to start scholes. He should purely be used for impact. Cleverly or Anderson would add a lot more energy and industry to the midfield. Creavity will always come from the wings and fullbacks
