Manchester United Thread

I think it's an area of the squad where he's probably extra-cautious in terms of choosing the right player, given past "solutions" like Verón, Djemba-Djemba, Kléberson, Miller, Hargreaves, Anderson not working out well.

He can afford to do that now with Scholes and Giggs being able to paper over the cracks the majority of the time.

Just one last time, I wish we could play Berbs as and advanced midfielder with Rooney staying upfront against a really top side.

The man knows how to keep possession and play a deadly ball. It's something that's rare nowadays. Just look at England, they're shitting themselves whenever they have the ball and can never keep possession. Plus an AM Berbatov wouldn't have to track back that much.

We would need someone like Carrick and another DM behind him though or we would be very exposed.

Oh for God's sake, Smalling's got an injury, not a minor one too, I think. Don't know whether to blame the physio-team or luck.

Bollocks.

Just seen the 2nd game of the pre-season tour in SA.
Bebe scored in injury time to draw level against Ajax Cape Town.

Summary for the game.
Shinji Kagawa is the sex.
His first touch and close control is class...Much like Scholes, I dare say.
His movements to get out and around tight spaces is too quick...very quick.
Has an eye to pick out that killer passes too.I cant wait to see our ninja in the Premiership soon...He has the ability to tear defences apart.

Nick Powell also made his United debut.Played about 25mins or so alongside Carrick in the 'Scholes' role.
Nothing spectacular or fancy but has quick feet and also has the ability to hit long passes.More from him perhaps?

I have to mention Michael Carrick.Played the whole 90 minutes again and he is so so pivotal in this 4-2-3-1 United formation.I cannot imagine him being injured next season without a suitable replacement. He has become a sure starter for me and Sir Alex it seems. Such an important player for United.

I agree with Phrase, just gotta add that Hernandez should really work on his first touch, he doesn't seem to have improved in that area, and the thing is he HAS to.

I think he has actually worked on his passing, what a neat ball to Kagawa, should've been 1-0 then, unlucky for the Japanese lad.

I am not so sure about Hernandez for the last two games now.
He is an international striker but sometimes, his first touch is really poor and against Ajax CT...he keeps slipping!

Hernandez has to be worried because Danny Welbeck will better than him for sure. That cross he made for Shinji was like the only good pass he made all game!

Didn't Japan have a rule that it's athletes had to play X amount of years in domestic leagues before they were allowed to go abroad? Or maybe that was just for baseball? I remember it being brought up for Ichiro Suzuki, he could have potentially been the best hitter EVER in (US) baseball but didn't get to come over here til later in his career. Although I hate baseball.
Was just wondering because Kagawa is so young.

May be work permit related?
I know that players must have played for their country a certain amount of times before they're granted a work permit, there is a couple of loopholes such as if a NT coach says the player has a future with the team but only if their career develops further (by playing for the new club they need a work permit for)

I'd be surprised if that's true, how would they enforce it?

While Guardiola tried to field an entire XI of central midfielders, Fergie's trying to do the same but with wingers. :D

----------------De Gea-----------------
-Valencia--Macheda--Berbabauer--Giggs--
-----------Rooney----Kagawa------------
---Nani------------------------Young---
-----------Welbeck---Hernandez---------

It's the future. Maybe stick Bebe in goal.

4-4-2 just doesn't work anymore!

And yay Larnell Cole!

Apparently our Moura bid has fallen down - Sao Paolo/ greedy little scum agent want more money than £26m. For a completely unproven 19 year old.

Good luck you greedy f*cks, I look forward to when you sell him for 20m euros to Inter next summer.

Apparently Fergie has totally flipped with that agent (who is one of the worst, also 'owns' Neymar) and has basically told him to go f*ck himself.

maybe man utd never had that sort of money to begin with, another target gone

I think signing these players are complicated in the fact most of them have brokers or 1/2 ownership and everybody wants a piece of the transfers %. This broker ownership is shady and complex.

Nothing's happened, the deal is still on.

Negotiations normally go like this, I think tomorrow we'll now whether were any closer or not.

Haha, yep!

I was genuinely shocked by how much Bebe resembled a footballer. Bizarre.

Shinji is very good, quietly optimistic about how quickly he'll settle in. Not much else to report, other than we struggled to break down a 10 man defence, as usual.

Just a few comments.
Powell starting to show his talent...his passing technique is rather unique.
Veseli finally looks okay at fullback.
Petrucci does have a vision of a proper CM and is good with the ball on his feet.
Lingard looks good when he came on.Makes me wonder if he stayes in the first team squad for next season.
Macheda looks he has fallen a few steps backwards.

So Kagawa gets his first goal and Bebe is the second coming of Ronaldo.

Wait, What?!

I think Kagawa's link up play will be brilliant with the likes of Nani, Rooney and Welbeck.

Seems to be about right that we are capping the transfer price of Leighton Baines to £12m.

I reckoned the bid for RVP is just a smokescreen for something else.

Seems to be quiet too on the Lucas front. Perhaps deal will conclude after the Olympics?

So united linked with a potential loan swoop for Nuri Sahin, a creative midfielder..
If we go ahead with this then it would be final proof that we can't afford to buy a top class midfielder, and have to look to brining a 38 year old out of retirement and a loan move for a Madrid outcast to fill our boots, not sure what to make of it

If we get Sahin you can't complain, we would have been ecstatic to get him last season. He came to Madrid injured and was never going to be given time to get back in form once the season started.

Sahin was great at Dortmund and I think he'd solve a lot of our problems if we got him, I'd be thrilled.

It's not the quality of the player I'm doubting, there is no doubt on him.. Perhaps saying he's a Madrid outcast was a little harsh.

What I mean is it seems like our signings are aimed at papering the cracks for now, a loan deal will be wages only so cost around £4m plus a small loan fee.. A lot cheaper than £40m for Modric or £35m for Sneijder. It seems that we can't afford to buy ourselves a real long term fix.
