Manchester United Thread

Ruud, Saha, Smith, Forlan, etc are all goal scoring strikers. We don't really have a good supporting striker. Right now, we have to rely on Scholes to do that job. Which is why Rooney is a perfect signing for us cuz he can support his strike partner much better than the guys we already have. Rooney is just perfect.

We should sign Rooney and off load Ole and Forlan so that we're left with just Ruud, Rooney, Saha and Smith. Then we just rotate the players. I'm sure Fergie can do that better than Ranieri did at Chelsea.

Man Utd have made it clear that they want him. Now its down to Everton and Rooney to make this deal happen.

He said he wont pay 50 mill thats all not that they wont buy if the price is right!

Rooney is just paper talk up to now anyway cos he isn't a Man Utd player until I see him in one of our shirts. I reckon that he will stay at Everton for at least another season anyway. He certainly won't go abroad cos he is not that type of player. I would also love him at Old Trafford cos he is an amazing talent. I think we need someone with a bit of strength.

Also on another note, even tho I'm glad we have bought Smithy, I just can't see where he is going to fit in with a team like this.

---------Howard---------------
Neville--Ferdinand--Heinze--Silvestre
Ronaldo--Keane--Scholes--Giggs
----Saha-----Van Nistelrooy

I reckon that he will end up a super sub a bit like ole. Im a big fan of ole but I think that it is time for him to move on because first team opportunities are going to be very low next season.

Also FORLAN go and get another job cos you are absolutely useless, sorry but it's true. U are overpriced poo!!

I personally don't that Rooney is really neccesary. But by January we'll definitely be able to tell if we need him or not.

Yeah, it will be like last January, when we found out that we needed Saha at start of season. i reckon that if we have the chance to get Rooney, we should make the move and don't wait until January because by then it could be too late.

Hey Lum!!

I saw in the other thread that you watched the Argentina game, I heard that Heinze a cracking game, what did you think?

All about Heinze from a passionate PSG fan, from ManUtd.com...sounds impressive.

Little is known in England about United's £7million signing from Paris Saint Germain, Gabriel Heinze.

Desperate to find out more, ManUtd.com fired some questions at PSG fan Julien Dao Duc. His answers make for mouth-watering reading...

What are Gabriel Heinze's best attributes?
He is tough. He's a real hard guy who isn't afraid of tackling hard, however he's not often carded. He was sent off twice during his first year at PSG but in the two years that followed he was never sent off. He's almost unbeatable in one-on-one situations and he's got good aerial ability. But I think his best attribute is his desire to win and willingness to fight for victory until the game is over. He never gives up!

I remember a game this year, PSG against Troyes, where we were entering the extra time of the second half, and nobody believed we could win this game except him. He scored a Platini-like free-kick from 30 metres, and PSG finally won 3-2. He has what the Argentinians call "grinta". He's a rock in defence. He wasn't really involved in the offensive play last year, but in the first year at PSG, he used to play as a left midfielder, and he made some damn good crosses! I can only see him becoming a fans' favourite at Manchester United.

So Gabriel's a free-kick taker then. Should we expect a few goals from him?
He never really had the chance to take free-kicks regularly, with Ronaldinho being in the team. But at the end of the third season, he started to take some free-kicks, and I have to say that some of them were great shots. He doesn't score many goals, as he isn't really involved in offensive play, but the goals that he scores are very important. I mentioned the Troyes game, and in the second season PSG were trailing at home to their rivals Marseille 1-0. He scored the equaliser and then PSG won the game.
Where do you expect him to fit in to the United team, and at whose expense?
I think that Heinze has been recruited to be in the starting 11. Although he's left-sided, he always claimed a slot in central defence, so I would see a central defence of Ferdinand and Heinze, with Silvestre on the left.

Is Heinze similar to any other players we know?
The only players that I can compare Heinze with are Davids (Holland) and Gattuso (Italy). They all play very aggressively. Furthermore both Gattuso and Heinze have "l'amour du maillot", which means "the love of the shirt." They will die for their colours.
What do PSG fans think about losing Heinze?
We all regret the loss of Heinze more than the loss of Ronaldinho. Ronaldinho left Paris with an image of a mercenary. Heinze will be remembered as a warrior, maybe the one who fought the most for the club during the last 3 years. He was the most beloved player of the squad, more than Pauleta or Ronaldinho. He was the real Prince of the Parc des Princes.

He has been cast as a difficult character for managers to deal with. Is this fair?
Not really. In fact those stories came out because PSG wouldn't let him leave at the beginning of the season, so he was a little bit upset. But he's very loyal to the team he's playing for and I can't see him making trouble at United.

Is Heinze the man to improve United's defence?
It was a very good idea to recruit Gabriel Heinze. He will make the United defence a lot stronger, and I hardly imagine United letting in many goals with Ferdinand and Heinze. While United could have bought players like Samuel and Bouma, Heinze is less famous but just as talented. He is a true jewel.

Julien Dao Duc was speaking exclusively to ManUtd.com's Steve Bartram.

great post phrase
tbh i didnt know alot about heinze myself so that was an interesting read
i saw him last nite for the 1st time ever and he looked very accomplished, against a weak side granted but he does look a very good buy for us :D

Unforetunaly Vanni, I fell asleep after the 2nd half (I had stayed up to see the match) they got 5 goals in the 2nd half!

From what I seen from Heinze during the last game was that he's a typical Agentine solid defender, which is very good. But I couldn't say that he had an exceptional game.
But the qualifier game with Brazil was great, the whole Argentinian defense was solid (Heinze and Samuel were CBs). The only bad thing he did was concede a penalty, Ronaldo had entered the box and wasn't doing anything with ball reall, just trying to get tackled.
Heinze's agent said that Gabriel wasn't afraid to tackle, which I noticed he did do more than few times.
But TBH, I don't think that I've seen him play enough to form a solid opinion on him personally. But from what I've heard from his days at PSG is that he was a very good defender in the style of Samuel and Ayala.
Sorry I couldn't help you more.

He sounds like just the type of defender we need. A hard man whos not afraid to put a foot in and jump for a 50-50 aerial challenge (in the mould of Campbell, Terry, Ayala and Samuel).

Our defence now has a very good blend. We've got Neville; A highly experienced defender who is consistant at defending and attacking. Rio; Very fast, decent in the air, fantastic tackler of the ball and can play the ball on the ground well. Heinze; For reasons mentioned above. Silvestre; Very fast, good at going forward and defending and great recovery stamina. We've also got O'Shea and Brown as back up.

Not bad for the new season.

And dont forget we could always slot P.Neville(RLB),Keane(CB),Djemba Djemba(RB) and Fortune(LB) into the mix too if all else fails.I'd say we are good in the defence department for next season's title challenge.

hmmm not sure about that...

I think there is enough depth in defense without using these lot, tbh thats why Fergie has invested so much in the defense.

G.Neville, Brown, Rio, Silvestre, Sheasy and Heinze with Pique and a couple of others on the fringes, I think we'll be okay without resorting to drafting in P.Neville ;)

We need a striker 2 link the midfield Smiith and Saha can do it but Rooney is better at it we miss Teddy!

:(

And Heinze is quality and we will also have Pique who i doubt will go on loan so defence is sound and Brown if hes back 2 his best!

I reckon Smith is ace, Nistelrooy is good, get rid of Saha, Solskjaer and Forlan and buy Rooney, 3 world class strikers there, and keep Bellion incase of injury or suspension on the other 3.

So,Smith is ace and Ruud is just good? I dont think a player who is just "good" would attract the attentions of Real Madrid. :D Get rid of Saha? what, are u on crack or sumthing? He is the only hard-working and robust forward we have currently and Smith does add another player to that category.I'd keep all of them and ditch only Forlan.

Spot on Phrase, Smith is decent but Ruud and Saha are top notch, as for getting rid of Ole, never!!! He could sit on the bench till he reached 55 as far as im concerned, the guys a legend and I never want him to leave.

I agree 100% about Ole. I will never forget the Champions League final '99 :D

When Ole is on fire, he's brilliant. But he can't do that anymore. He needs more first team football if he wants to reach that level again. But with Ruud, Saha and Smith, he isn't gonna get much chance. Which is why it's best for him to leave.

Nah...I think we should keep him. I still think hes the best one-on-one finisher in the premiership, even better than Henry and Ruud. :D

A good idea could be to get Rooney and in exchange, we pay them about £22million plus Smith on Loan. Then we'd have space for Solskjaer.

Solskjaer will be important for the first few matches of next season cuz Ronaldo will be absent.

I reckon Fergie will keep Ole cause he could play at the right wing berth remember? the only current players who plays there are Ronaldo and Fletcher(better off as an OM).
