Manchester United Thread

Re: Manchester United Champions Thread!!!19!!!!!

He's the best reserve midfielder we've had in a long time. Not that it says much - none of our ressie mids have amounted to anything except Eikrem who is doing well in the Norwegian league - but still.

He's like a massive playmaker. Despite being huge, he's not a physical midfielder, but has a great right foot and strong technique. He's scored a good number of long range shots and free kicks, and his touch is generally secure. He has a good passing range and showed great responsibility with the youth and reserve teams - always demanding the ball.

I'm not gonna sugar-coat it: I genuinely, 100% believe he will be a very, very good player. Maybe not world class, but close. And we trained him from just over 16, moved him into the first team this season and he's even played a few matches - and now we're going to lose him because his greasy, fat, f*cking scab of a human being agent gets a bigger payoff.

For those unawares, the rumors are that Pogba's income at Juve will be almost the same as what United offered. The ONLY difference is that his c*nt, sorry, agent is getting a whopping great 1.5m euro pay off by Juve. So he's passing up staying at United (who despite the Glazer's best attempts are still a bigger club than Juve at the moment) where we desperately need players in his position to go and maybe get games with Juve.

So frustrated. To lose Morrison and Pogba when our midfield is so weak is almost inexcusable for me.

Re: Manchester United Champions Thread!!!19!!!!!

Yah those are two supposedly great talents that United might lose and that's shameful and understandably frustrating for fans like you. I feel for you :( though of course I feel for Le Havre evne more.

I would say, there is something obviously in it for HIM though. He's not doing this move to Juve as a FAVOUR to his agent, is he? The agent isn't his dad lol. If opportunities are the same and pay is hardly increasing, why move? What does he owe his agent $1.5 million? Of course not. The agent obviously tried to turn his head but he must have given him good enough reasons to convince Paul his future is best off away from Manchester and in particular Turin.

Re: Manchester United Champions Thread!!!19!!!!!

His loss. He'll probably end up on the bench of Torino or some other similar sized club when Juve inevitably loan out/co-own him to another club.

At least a new central midfielder is now definitely inevitable in the summer. Surely!

Anyway, we have a very interesting game today, against possibly my favourite coach in football's current side. I admire Bielsa, he's an extremely fascinating character with an equally fascinating philosophy of football.

Re: Manchester United Champions Thread!!!19!!!!!

Yah and of course Bilbao has many 'interesting' players to make matters even more 'interesting'. :P

Re: Manchester United Champions Thread!!!19!!!!!

Imagine if we came back from the second leg with deals sorted for at least one of Llorente, Muniain or Martinez...

Re: Manchester United Champions Thread!!!19!!!!!

I was going to mention Muniain and forgot about Martinez also! I think Muniain would be preferably though :P

Re: Manchester United Champions Thread!!!19!!!!!

Yes please!

Oh and doesn't it feel like ages since we've had a first leg at home? Predict a score draw.

Re: Manchester United Champions Thread!!!19!!!!!

Give me Martinez anyday. That'd be one step towards securing the future of our central midfield.

Re: Manchester United Champions Thread!!!19!!!!!

We're very sloppy on the ball at the moment, incredibly frustrating.

Bilbao were the better team tonight, Spurs were the better team the last game, late winner vs Norwich and we scraped through vs Ajax.

At the moment it's a case of getting results because of hard work, but not particularly because of any kind of quality. Our luck will run out in the league too if we keep playing like this.

On the plus side, Rooney gets another couple of goals, should do his confidence a lot of good, we know he likes to go on these periods where he can't stop scoring. De Gea was immense, could of quite easily been a bigger deficit tonight, Rafael let him down big time for the 3rd goal, what was he doing?!

Re: Manchester United Champions Thread!!!19!!!!!

It was like watching England vs Spain. One team completely clueless in possession, often hoofing the ball aimlessly long while the other was far more assured on the ball, played some neat interchanges across the pitch and outplayed the other side.

Ironically, our only Spanish player saved us from a mauling.

Re: Manchester United Champions Thread!!!19!!!!!

Thank god for David De Gea.

Honestly don't know what's up with it at the minute, I knew it'd be tough because Bilbao play a pressing game and we're hopeless against it but we've been playing shite for a while now.

Honestly doesn't matter if we have a good run of results for the games till the City game because play like that and it'll be another 6-1 again.

Something's not right with the backroom staff, I can only hope Quieroz comes back at some point.

Re: Manchester United Champions Thread!!!19!!!!!

Giggs and Jones in midfield, supported by Park. I'm done being surprised. We were outplayed in midfield because we don't play f*cking midfielders.

Anyway.

Wish they'd thrashed us more as they deserved. Fergie is pissing around imo. It's insulting.

One side note - apparently for their third the ref had asked for them to play the ball back to us, which is partly why we were a bit asleep. Not that it absolves Rafael.

Re: Manchester United Champions Thread!!!19!!!!!

Since its the United thread I'll just focus on us (I've already mentionend how good Bilbao were) simply put their was so much wrong with tonight that I don't know were to start. in midfield we were going to get outclassed if we didn't have Scholes playing and its an area of the pitch which is at its weakest since probably prior to Keane and Ince so playing a Spanish outfit who specialize in keeping the ball it would have made sense to use the 4-5-1 system we did for the last 3 years prior to the end of last season which gave us great results. I felt that going 4-4-2 was just naive from SAF

De Gea was pretty outstanding though and he deserves credit even though im sure hes gutted to have conceded 3. We really need to paper over the cracks for the time being by going 4-3-3 in these big games for the remainder of the season and reverting to the tactics which worked so well 2 years ago and then in the Summer go out and buy 2 outstanding midfield players cause we really struggle with quality and depth of options at the minute.

Re: Manchester United Champions Thread!!!19!!!!!

We got destroyed today, credit to athletic they were brilliant and fully deserve there win.

Im really starting to question fergies tactics and descisions this year in europe. 4-3-3 was our main formation when we were at are dominant stages of europe and now fergie seems to use 442 which is extremely risky in europe.

Another thing which is seriously pissing me off is why fergie continues to use inexperienced line ups through out the season in Europe?

Yes we have had a lot of injury's but today we could of had a slightly more experienced back line, and for the love of god pick natural midfielders.

Why didn't Carrick play instead of Jones? So many poor decisions in Europe which is extremely disappointing.

The second leg I don't really have much high hope for. Need to win by 2 goals against a side that has only lost twice all season from what I've heard...

On the plus side De Gea was amazing!

Re: Manchester United Champions Thread!!!19!!!!!

Agree - this whole season (and last tbh) has been about papering over the cracks. Fergie is incredible for having managed as he has.

What worries me is that we still seem utterly determined to never have a f*cking central midfielder play in central midfield. We don't even need someone who is world class (though it'd be nice) - just a player that knows how to play there. Giggsy, Jones, Park - not central players.

Arteta, Cabaye, Parker - any of them would improve our team this year. And were cheap and available in the summer. I don't want a palyer of that calibre, but that's how poor we are these days.

Outplayed by Ajax, Basel and Bilbao AT OT? We used to be invincible at home.

Re: Manchester United Champions Thread!!!19!!!!!

Can't complain about the result. Had a feeling it was going to be one of those nights after seeing the lineup. Not exactly our strongest team, but like everyone else said, if it wasn't for De Gea it'd be a lot worse.

We looked more in control when Carrick came on, but the back line showed inexperience with Jones & Evans at CB (as well as Rafael's fubar for the 3rd). Also would have felt easier if Welbeck had replaced Park instead of Anderson. Actually, I would have been happier if Park wasn't starting!

As much as the result was fair, can't help thinking we were hard done by for the 2nd (offside) & 3rd. We'll just have to see how much we want it next week.

One last thing - Llorente is a machine! Would love to see him in United colours.

Re: Manchester United Champions Thread!!!19!!!!!

We should sign Llorente,Muniain and Martinez just to keep De Gea happy at United for many many years to come.

United being outplayed and outclassed last night by a team filled with only Basque players! What is it about Spanish teams and the football they play?

Re: Manchester United Champions Thread!!!19!!!!!

I think another thing to consider is the 'Old Trafford' draw that our players clearly aren't that into these days.

I mean, anytime we get to play in the Bernabeau or San Siro, I bet our players get that electric feeling - like wow this is somewhere I dreamed about as a kid. I'm not sure, but OT is the closest thing in England to that, so I'd imagine that some of these players are just really, really up for the opportunity.

Whereas our lot show up like it's a typical Thursday shift. (Evra, I'm looking at you)

Re: Manchester United Champions Thread!!!19!!!!!

Doesn't help when the crowd doesn't give a shit for 99% of our games.

Felt like an away tie considering all you could hear was the Bilbao fans, much like Ajax in the last round.

I despair at the 'atmosphere' inside OT.

Same thing for me. We've been utterly spoilt for the past 6 years. I had hoped that going out of the CL would remind fans how special European nights are, but erm, nope.

Re: Manchester United Champions Thread!!!19!!!!!

I hope we absolutely batter Ben Foster's goal today.

Would be good for himself if Berbatov gets a start with a couple of goals perhaps.

Re: Manchester United Champions Thread!!!19!!!!!

Attacking line up or what? Pogba on the bench (signed a new contract?), Cleverley back on the bench too. Exciting stuff.

16 Carrick
18 Young
22 Scholes
10 Rooney

19 Welbeck

Substitutes

40 Amos
21 Rafael

Re: Manchester United Champions Thread!!!19!!!!!

I don't know how today could of gone better.

Re: Manchester United Champions Thread!!!19!!!!!

Nani and Anderson injuries also could have not occured, will be important in the run in.

But yeah, nowonder the Suns been out, were top again :D

Re: Manchester United Champions Thread!!!19!!!!!

Craziness. We've somehow top having had our captain and best player contribute at 3 games all year, and having no midfield to speak of for most of it too.

Carrick for BPotY?

Also, Fergie was in France watching Lyon v Lille on Saturday. Random. Hazard? Who else is there we might be interested in?

Re: Manchester United Champions Thread!!!19!!!!!

Probably some extremely young talented defender or something from one of the two teams.

Either way, it was apparently a very boring game and Hazard did the square root of fuck all. Not the best of impressions for SAF.
