Manchester United Thread

Re: Manchester United Champions Thread!!!19!!!!!

Good showing today. Could have been 4 or 5 with a bit more luck/ composure.

Carrick is definitely back, thankfully. Probably injured next week given our season...

Re: Manchester United Champions Thread!!!19!!!!!

No idea. I thought he was a wide player that cuts in though - like Silva (though doubt as good). Why we'd go for that kind of player while the midfield is such an issue I don't know...

Re: Manchester United Champions Thread!!!19!!!!!

Nicolas Gaitan? didn't you guys watch him vs. Benfica? He was probably MoM that day.
Great player. Very talented. Great left-foot!
Would Benfica sell him this early (He was Di Maria's replacement) and in middle of season? I doubt it. Not unless crazy $$$ gets spent which I don't see Fergie doing in January.

Re: Manchester United Champions Thread!!!19!!!!!

I saw something on Twitter earlier, some journalist saying United have paid £29.3m to sign Gaitan in the summer.

Re: Manchester United Champions Thread!!!19!!!!!

How good was Carrers last night? He has been on form for the last 5 or so.Completely in control in the middle and made the small pitch work to his advantage with his quick passing and movement...and boyyy did he moved for his goal!

Rio Ferdinand also deserves special mentioning.Ever since he moved from his usual stopper position to the sweeper position, he has used his experience to excel. He still has pace but not for playing as a stopper. He reads the game ever so well, even better than Vida in my opinion.Hope Rio and Carrick stays fit to carry us forward at least till February.

Re: Manchester United Champions Thread!!!19!!!!!

You guys see Banega's performance against Malaga this weekend? wow! And he was just back from injury I believe! So many awesome through balls! His vision and passing is right up there with the very best in the world! Soldado could've grabbed at least a hat-trick. Passing wise, he's the perfect replacement for Paul Scholes.

Re: Manchester United Champions Thread!!!19!!!!!

Was it as good as his MOTM show against Barca earlier this season?

The guy has serious talent no doubt about it, very surprised he's not linked with us (or many other teams for that matter). Perhaps people still linger on his personal problems earlier in his career?

Anyway, I'm not entirely sure why we're linked with Gaitan. He's more of a winger isn't he? Something we're not exactly lacking. Why aren't we after a CM?

Yeah I've seen his two performances against us but not enough to judge how good he is, I was wondering if others had seen him much more and what they think of actually signing him?

Re: Manchester United Champions Thread!!!19!!!!!

This'll probably go the way of the Douglas Costa deal we were rumoured to have concluded last season.

Re: Manchester United Champions Thread!!!19!!!!!

Matherto, I preferred his performance against Barcelona but this one was very good too. Yeah it's interesting not many clubs seem to be after him. Or maybe they are and we'll hear about them soon enough... He's 23, already one of the world's finest and just a natural talent. I admit, he looks like a freaking unstable person though. Not just the temper but he seems very unprofessional and hard to deal with. Then again, I think that's exactly the type of person, SAF can whip into shape and fix attitude of IF he settles in the environment/culture of England personally which I think is the bigger challenge. And even his contract is expiring soon... if I were Man Utd, I'd definitely throw caution to the wind and forget about Veron and Tevez and still go for this guy! He can run the show in the middle of the park and for quite a few years to come and be the guy who makes it all happen.

I've only watched him a handful of times as well so I'm not the best person to comment. Someone like TsO would do a much better job being a Benfica fan and watching him every week.

I have watched him 5-6 times in a Benfica shirt and couple times in Boca before his move though and I will say though not enough times, he impressed me EVERY time! Which is hard to do! I'm usually very picky. The boy's got a LOT of talent and he's also still quite young like Banega for someone already so good.

And although he can and does play on right or left side of midfielder, personally I don't necessarily think of him as a 'winger'. I think of him more as an attacking midfielder. Something between a Pablo Aimar and a winger. But the fact that he can so easily beat a man and has good pace I think makes a lot of people think of him as a 'winger' and hence the idea of "Then do we need him?" yes you do need him. I think every team could use a player like Gaitan. Not as much as you need Banega though, that's true. ;)

p.s. Even the couple times you watched him against Untied, weren't you impressed?! He was toying with your players for much of the match doing whatever he felt like and very involved.

Re: Manchester United Champions Thread!!!19!!!!!

Hey, it's not too often that I post here but since I decided I could start a bit of a discussion around here with an interesting question. :D

Aye, as Fergie had already mentioned, he probably won't be making new signings in January. So if we put an end to the rumours and discussions about other players for a while and take a look at what we have at the moment.

My question is this... which midfield duo do you prefer? Anderson & Cleverley or Carrick & Jones? Well, everyone can see for themselves the differences but I'm still gonna point out the most important of them, in my opinion.

Ando and Cleverley looked really impressive in the games they played at the start of the season in terms of passing, creativity, movement. That's why our playing style was enjoyable - they both are mostly direct players, looking for an opening through the heart of the opposition to pass the ball into. Even though we were pretty convincing (seeing the result at the end), the team lacked a bit of the defensive side of the midfield, hence the endless shots on goal we had conceded.

As far as the Carrick/Jones duo is concerned, if you watched closely the last 2 games, you could've seen that they started to blend really well together. In comparison to the other duo, those two are a bit (!) slower and they maybe bring a little more physicality. Judging from the game against QPR, the two worked really fantastic in defense and intercepted tons of balls... and then starting a quick, direct attacks. This directness of the play which I personally have noticed in the last game, is maybe a result of the close distance at which they found themselves in almost every single build up. The thing about these two is that the one can rush forward and contribute actively to the attack and in the same time the other one can drop back, securing the opportunities for a counter by positioning himself in the right places (which they both did perfectly the last match).

So... I didn't write everything I want but at the time I think it's enough and hope you can express your opinion too, guys. It's an interesting comparison and it will be very exciting to see what happens when both duos are fit.

Cheers! :)

imo Cleverley is very vital... he seems similar to Jack (Arsenal) went on a loan spell did good and was coming into MUTD 1st team. He needed a whole season to develop and the following season he would of grown more into his potential. Ando has become a disappointment in terms of what he should be doing week in/week out. Now, he`s a squad player that needs to develop into something he needed to be at the start. Carrick was better a few years back and he seem to be more stable figure like duct tape (reliable). At the end of the day SAF will manage to keep the squad a float he`s the real life MacGyver

Re: Manchester United Champions Thread!!!19!!!!!

That story about the NOTW obtaining Fergie's medical records makes me sick. No wonder he despises the press so much.

Re: Manchester United Champions Thread!!!19!!!!!

Oh boy, the RAWK reactions to the Suarez 8 game ban is just glorious. Delicious tears.

Seriously I don't even get how they can defend Suarez on this. The guy clearly used abusive racist language and they don't even give care one bit. Had Rooney done the same against any other black football player out there, I'd want him to f*** off right there.

Football fans make me so mad sometimes.

Re: Manchester United Champions Thread!!!19!!!!!

Clearly? How close were you to both players then? Seeing as nobody else has said they heard anything get said, I'd love to know how it's so clear to you?

Re: Manchester United Champions Thread!!!19!!!!!

Sorry, I should have read the Liverpool statement earlier. Of course it's obvious that the FA punished Suarez based on Evra's words alone. It makes sense after all.

I'm guessing you were at the hearing as well?

Re: Manchester United Champions Thread!!!19!!!!!

Exactly, none of us were. So nothing is "clear" to me, or you I imagine?

doesn't mean he's innocent

racist ppl won`t ever hug another race you won`t see a hamas hug a jew or A catholic or that other christian group hug each other would ya? Racist is label to hate another race, religion etc. Prejudice is different I will accuse someone of prejudice before racist , it`s a fine line . Words have consequences no doubt! and ppl w/o responsibilities can use them until they become someone and even then the words once used can come back to haunt. Like, I`m sure some used words that won`t be proud to admit in their past.

You're missing the point. People who aren't racist can say racist things. In fact, they may be even more likely to do so because they don't appreciate their significance.

Suarez has not been punished for being racist. He has been punished for saying something that, in the context and country it was said in, has been deemed racist.

They're different things.
