Manchester United Thread

Re: Manchester United Champions Thread!!!19!!!!!

Problem is he needs games and from an attacking sense it seems to work well, the fact he can only operate on the right hurts his chances a lot.

Re: Manchester United Champions Thread!!!19!!!!!

I miss Tony out there on the right. The pure simplicity of his game - which allows the strikers to anticipate crosses so easily.

But you can't argue with the form of Nani and Young.

My biggest gripe is that Park still gets out on the left wing some matches. That's a travesty to wing play.

Re: Manchester United Champions Thread!!!19!!!!!

I'm starting to get horribly frustrated watching Valencia play to be honest. It's always been annoying that he can't use his left foot but now it's like he'd rather have it chopped off than use it to kick a football.

He's a horribly limited player and at the same time brilliant with what little he can do. Certainly with Chich and Welbeck pretty good in the air it'd help them and also Rooney benefitted so much from Valencia's crosses back in 09/10 so he's still a good option. Can't remember the last time we scored from one of his crosses though.

So our defense at the moment (for the Liverpool match), in order of 'choice':

Vidic - Injured since first half of first match of the season. Yet to complete 90 minutes since Wembley. Will be booked for breathing on Suarez.
Ferdinand - Clearly not fully fit, and not the same player he was.
Evra - Injured for France, unlikely to play
Rafael - Injured in opening game, still not back from injury
Smalling - Injured with groin strain
Evans - Out of N. Ireland squad with ankle injury, unclear if fit
Fabio - Injured for Brazil
Jones - Healthy! And 19!

I mean, cripes.

Re: Manchester United Champions Thread!!!19!!!!!

Your right but we'll be fine. Fabio/Ferdinand/Jones + atleast one of Smalling, Evans or Evra should be back.

more worried about Wayne's head. and our midfield being upto the high pressure Liverpool performance which we sometimes can't cope with. Anderson and Fletcher will do.

Re: Manchester United Champions Thread!!!19!!!!!

Well on the bright side, at least the fact we don't have Scholes means Fergie can't go with a Carrick-Scholes partnership at Anfield like in our two previous defeats there.

I can't remember the last time we played at Anfield with a midfield three, even when they had that triumvirate of Mascherano-Alonso-Gerrard. Probably one of the reasons our midfield seems to get overrun too often when we play there.

Re: Manchester United Champions Thread!!!19!!!!!

Yeah I think only SAF will know if his heads right to start such a big game along with fitness.

I'd go with the standard attacking 4-2-3-1 and then drop off if we try to hold on rather than start with the likes of Park, drop Hernandez and go 4-3-3.

Re: Manchester United Champions Thread!!!19!!!!!

I really, really, REALLY hope we don't start Park. He's been so ineffective lately - tbh he only really shines against Arsenal imo. If he starts wide left in a 433 it basically says to the opposition: Go ahead and double team the actual wide attacker on the right. Hell, triple team the lone front man too, you can just leave Park out there - he won't hurt you from wide.

I like to think if Fergie does play a front 3 it'll be Rooney, Nani and Young, in front of Carrick, Fletcher and Anderson.

Re: Manchester United Champions Thread!!!19!!!!!

Happy enough with a point. After next week we'll have played Chelsea, Liverpool, Arsenal, City, Tottenham and gone away to Stoke.

If we're anywhere near the top given that start, I'll be delighted.

Re: Manchester United Champions Thread!!!19!!!!!

God that's pathetic. Next time Evra plays against Downing he should boot him 6 feet up in the air!... and I'm a Liverpool fan.

Now go and post up some United players diving as there have been a few over the years ;) God I hate this part of the game. It's embarrassing!

Re: Manchester United Champions Thread!!!19!!!!!

What happend to the ref in that 2nd half last night!? totally lost the plot

Valencia was really frustrating to watch, poor decision making, poor crossing, couldnt take anyone on, poor touch, poor passes

Argh!

Re: Manchester United Champions Thread!!!19!!!!!

I called trouble as soon as he did the challenge so it wasn't a shock, hopefully its only them at home isn't it? not too bad.

Valencia has hardly played this season so it's not really his fault he's that off, can't see him getting back into the side bar injuries and big drops of form though .

Re: Manchester United Champions Thread!!!19!!!!!

So what does everyone expect at the weekend, I think we'll go for it since its at home but City have some quality now so not sure if we might settle for the point possibly.

Re: Manchester United Champions Thread!!!19!!!!!

I think it's a massively important match. I genuinely believe this season that we have the 3rd best team in the league. Fergie and the older players' sheer will got us sputtering over the finish line last year, but I'm not sure that we're not being found out.

We played really well for 3/4 games at the start of this season, but since then have gone back to our inconsistent, blunt team of last year (basle, stoke, galati, norwich etc).

If we can beat City, that will at least stem the momentum, but I fear that a loss - any loss - will give the media and City what they want: a shifting of the tides.

To be fair, we tend to improve after Christmas, and being 5 points back at this stage (and having played all of last year's top 6) would not be the end of the world. Particularly as many of these City players have shown themselves to be inconsistent and 'fair weather' types (Nasri springs to mind).

It'll be interesting. But I can definitely see a situation unfold where we end up third behind City and Chelsea.

What I do wonder then is who the generally ABU media will start rooting for. The 100m a year losses of a Russian billionaire or the 100m a year losses of an Arab billionaire.

Re: Manchester United Champions Thread!!!19!!!!!

As confident in the team as ever then, Considering we've beaten Chelsea 4 games in a row pretty convincingly im not sure ho that equates to them being better than us but OK.

City have some great players going forward like Silva and Aguero but Nani and Rooney wouldn't be considered inferior by many, defensively were better by a decent margin I'd say were still slightly the better side and vastly more experienced.

but Yeah were doomed if we don't win ;)

Re: Manchester United Champions Thread!!!19!!!!!

Haha, yeah - I'm the perpetually pleasantly surprised pessimist ;)

How crazy is this: http://news.bbc.co.uk/sport2/hi/football/15389733.stm?

Supporters of both Manchester City and United are being given the chance to discard their Carlos Tevez shirts ahead of Sunday's derby.

Fans will be able to dump the items of clothing in a skip outside Old Trafford in exchange for a new club shirt.

The Argentina striker left United for City in 2009 - then upset City fans by allegedly refusing to play in last month's defeat by Bayern Munich.

All unwanted shirts will be given to local charities or sent to Argentina.

United fans are still unhappy with Tevez for leaving them to join their local rivals and, with the player's future at City uncertain, a betting company has stepped in to help.

Re: Manchester United Champions Thread!!!19!!!!!

you started the match very good, but then after 20 minutes it was all about City.. i switched the tv off in 3:0 and now i see 1:6... incredible..

is this the bigest home defeat ever?
