Manchester United Thread

Re: Manchester United Champions Thread!!!19!!!!!

Your lot taking a LOT of shit on Twitter and the media for the singing about Istanbul to the Leeds fans. Haven't seen it myself but hope it's just a minority of your fans there, horrible behaviour.

Also seeing the Leeds fans singing about Munich after the match, probably brought on by the singing during the match.

I don't understand how people haven't changed over the years and become a bit more mature. But then with the likes of Jeremy Kyle being so popular, it's no surprise :(

Funnily enough how the press never actually mentioned Leeds fans singing Munich especially before the game when the coachloads of united fans pulled up and I heard them clearly singing during the game despite the fact they were quiet for most of the game.

Yes I do condone both set of fans for singing songs about Munich and Istanbul respectively but it has no place in football so why be idiots and sing it?

Re: Manchester United Champions Thread!!!19!!!!!

Fucking idiots. It was always likely to happen though, given the mutual hatred between both sets of supporters.

Re: Manchester United Champions Thread!!!19!!!!!

Well, I had such high hopes Hargreaves would be back early this season.

Just never, EVER, expected him to be in Sky Blue.

Re: Manchester United Champions Thread!!!19!!!!!

He had to sign for City right?! FFS...was a crocked man when he was with us!! We put up with him for nearly 3 seasons! One game for our bitter rivals and he scored a beauty.FFS.

Re: Manchester United Champions Thread!!!19!!!!!

What sucks is that if he was a defender, keeper, winger or striker I'd be perfectly comfortable saying 'well he wouldn't get a game with us anyway'. But he's not.

He's the f*cking perfect solution to our midfield woes. (until he breaks again)

Re: Manchester United Champions Thread!!!19!!!!!

What midfiel woes? We're doing fine so far this season. You guys are talking as if we were in a desperate situation.

Cleverley, Ando, Giggsy, Carrick, Park, Fletcher, that's a lot of player who are able to fill in central midfield.

That said, I'm a bit gutted that Hargo is not here anymore. I love the guy, never gave up. FERGIE SIGN HIM UP! :BOP:

Re: Manchester United Champions Thread!!!19!!!!!

Give it time. We've conceded more shots on goal than any team in the league. That's mental.

Problem is that none of our midfielders are 'perfect':

Ando - Great potential, but barely ever managed a decent run in the team.
Cleverley - Played 4 matches at this level in CMF. Ever.
Fletcher - 1 good season in 8. Has the sickness finished him off?
Carrick - Our no. 1 choice, but hardly world class. Useful, but only alongside true class
Giggs - 38 years old
Gibson - Is Gibson

So far (and for years) we've managed to win in spite of the middle of the park. But there are so many better players out there. I'm 100% sure Fergie tried to sign people this summer, but was not meant to be.

Re: Manchester United Champions Thread!!!19!!!!!

Hargo's best performances came on the wing for us. He could've been a useful squad player but it's not like we desperately need him.

Re: Manchester United Champions Thread!!!19!!!!!

And yet we've conceded only 4 goals. Many of those shots were also potshots where players were trying to take advantage of De Gea's shakiness (except of course for those awful miss from Chelsea and West Brom where we got lucky). It's also the start of the season in which we play a lot of attacking football with at least 2 strikers upfront. Hell, even Jones is sometimes playing as if he was a forward. It's no surprise our opponents are getting more chances.

We wouldn't have won so many games (in some of which we completely thrashed our opponents) if it was in spite of our midfield. Our CMs are not getting the credit they deserve simply because they don't have a flashy name like Xavi, Ozil or Sneijder. Thing is, United this season play as a real group where everyone contributes and it brings the team forward. I've never seen us play one touch football like this before, or at least it was so long ago I can't remember.

It's not just a group of 11 brilliant individuals that we've put on a pitch to get the job done (à la Madrid last season). The level of understanding between the players has been exceptionnal this season and it easily makes up for the fact that we have no so called world class CMs.

Re: Manchester United Champions Thread!!!19!!!!!

 WOW "He's the f*cking perfect solution to our midfield woes."

Not the first time your being over dramatic Beachryan but cmon even you had to laugh at that.

Seriously though is this actually bothering people? remember we actually let him go, he's gone to city and had a decent game and scored a cracker. good for him he's not suddenly Messi.

I have mellowed on the midfield situation as I wasn't expecting Cleverley to get the run he did prior to injury (as I hadn't seen him play CM before Duh!) we've got Giggs and Anderson for creativity, Carrick and Cleverley as the "simple" types with Cleverley being the more creative type and Carrick the more defensive and Fletcher.

Pogba and Morrison to come through, I still want Banega but really were not that bad.

EDIT: Great Post Ogami and hopefully Anderson can tick that World Class box by the end of the season.

Re: Manchester United Champions Thread!!!19!!!!!

Yes, excuse the hyperbole. Self admitted Hargreaves lover ;)

The Hargreaves that plays DMF and manages 40 matches a season - that's the one that would have been perfect for our current setup. He of course, is only a figment of my imagination, sadly.

We'll see re: our midfield. I just think it's the last piece of the puzzle, the final thing that takes us into a truly 'great' team. Our defence and attack are genuinely class and make us very good, but if we had a lil bit more in the centre we'd be up there.

Re: Manchester United Champions Thread!!!19!!!!!

After last nights performance against Barca I'm a fully fledged Banega muppet.

Either that or M'Vila (who I've only ever seen play against England and barely remember).

tbh this season United team is best ever since i recognise Man. United in terms of playing style and efectivity.

*Sigh* Yes we would but what's that got to do with anything? People really need to let go, Barcelona are better, once in a generation side. Don't let that take away from the fact we are a great side.

The point about "being cut open" is nonsense we've scored buckets of goals ofcourse we're going to leave a few gaps and even then we've only conceded 4 I think?

Re: Manchester United Champions Thread!!!19!!!!!

That's right. You can't expect us to score sh**loads of goals and defend as well as we were used to.

Re: Manchester United Champions Thread!!!19!!!!!

Whatever. For the record the first one is definitely a pen for me. He gets a toe on the ball but that's only after he's gone through the back of Hernandez. But hey, United get all the decisions right?

Still, from then on we had 85 minutes to beat Stoke, and didn't show nearly enough. Our midfield was anaemic, Ashley Young looked out of sorts and it's worth remembering we had to play a right winger at RB against a very big, tough team.

I don't mind Stoke's approach, but I don't think they should have this special treatment around throw ins. It literally takes them 2 minutes for each throw in - but the ref only ever adds 'typical' extra time. They should be treated the same as anyone else. If a non-Stoke palyer stood on the sideline for that long holding the ball, they'd get a yellow for wasting time.

Re: Manchester United Champions Thread!!!19!!!!!

I don't even know, we should of had two penalties at least but then at the same time, we didn't play well enough, also giggs should've scored on 91st minute, just wasn't our day i guess

Re: Manchester United Champions Thread!!!19!!!!!

Giggs actually shouldn'tve scored, he should've squared it to Owen for a simple, unmarked tap in but ah well.

I genuinely hate everything to do with Stoke City.

Oh and Peter Walton should be put down, he's never had a good game refereeing us, useless cunt.

Re: Manchester United Champions Thread!!!19!!!!!

Tough match against Basle coming up - only really due to our injury situation. Going to be without: Rooney, Hernandez, Evans, Vida, Rafael, Smalling and more than likely Rio as he can't play two matches that quickly. Sigh.

No idea what our back line will be, but I can't see it not featuring a midfielder (Valencia or Carrick or both). Up front will probably be Welbeck with someone else. I fear it's time for another Park appearance.

It's an important match and I hope Fergie treats it as such. Wouldn't be surprised to see Macheda getting a run around too - but hopefully not as a winger!

Re: Manchester United Champions Thread!!!19!!!!!

All those defenders out and And Shaqiri seems on fire right about now!!

Yeah, only really seen him in internationals but he looks excellent. A bit of a pr*ck to be sure, but tons of skill. I can really seem him bigging it up on the 'big stage' that is Old Trafford.

Usually I'd think this would be a good thing, as United have a habit of picking up players who kick their ass, but we don't really need any more help in his position, despite his obvious class.

Re: Manchester United Champions Thread!!!19!!!!!

Yeah. I think United will be fine and probably manage to handle him but we'll find out I guess. And yah he seems a bit of a douche.

Re: Manchester United Champions Thread!!!19!!!!!

I think you've gotta have a little bit of douchery in you to become the best. The world's best players all have undesirable qualities about them.
