Yeah indeed Wilky. They had to make it difficult for themselves. Seriously had my heart in my mouth the whole time. And my, what a miss by Torres. Got to feel for the guy.

Re: Manchester United Champions Thread!!!19!!!!!

Is Fabio out of favour? He was on the bench but Ferguson preferred to play Antonio Valencia as RB towards the end!

Prob because Raf gets forward a lot and the gaffa wanted to him not to get caught out so he chose Valencia

Re: Manchester United Champions Thread!!!19!!!!!

What a mad game? 3-1 is a random scoreline.

I'd say 7-4 would have been warranted. Oh and Nani is class.

Re: Manchester United Champions Thread!!!19!!!!!

Yeah in all honesty, if it'd ended 9-9 I wouldn'tve been surprised.

Plenty of missed opportunities for both teams.

Rooney could've and should've had his third hat-trick in a row.

Cashley Cunt should've been sent off for his 'tackle' on Chicharito as well, horrible. How he ended up with a booking and we then didn't get a penalty I'll never know, a stupid quirk in the rules.

This really pisses me off. I think fans deserve an explanation for what Dowd ruled. If his argument is that the ball was out of play, then Cashley needs to get a red for a dangerous, reckless, off the ground studs up tackle WHEN THE BALL IS OUT OF PLAY.

If it's still in play, it's a penalty.

I know fans of other teams will argue that it makes no difference cause we still won, but two consecutive weeks we've lost very good young players to dangerous tackles that were unjustly punished. If Hernandez's bone is cracked (as are the rumours) then what does that say? It's fine to literally break someones leg as you're playing against United?

(worth noting that Phil Dowd doesn't mind red cards - he gave Rooney one for throwing a ball back to where a free kick had been given aggressively. Throw a ball too hard - that deserves a sending off. Break someones leg? Yellow)

Re: Manchester United Champions Thread!!!19!!!!!

Absolutely bizarre game, had just about everything.

I hope when we go away to places like Anfield, Stamford Bridge etc we'll stick Carrick or Jones in there with a midfield three, currently we're playing ridiculously open in these big games and while it's fine at home, I'm not sure how effective it'll be away from home.

Although it does make for an extremely entertaining game for the neutral.

Re: Manchester United Champions Thread!!!19!!!!!

I think the system is fine we just went a bit over the top yesterday, Anderson and Fletcher were poor really, our sheer attacking strength got us that win. Jones and Smalling are amazing but they love getting forward so much it can cause problems sometimes.

Rio and Vidic back will make a difference (that's if Jones gets dropped)

Re: Manchester United Champions Thread!!!19!!!!!

Well unless we stick Jones in as a DMF, let's face it, he'd probably be brilliant there and has played there before for Blackburn.

Fletch is great at getting around the pitch and harrying people but positionally he's horrific, even at his height we still had large gaps in our midfield. Couple that with Ando who doesn't defend to much and is equally horrific positional wise and it's no wonder we were so open.

Re: Manchester United Champions Thread!!!19!!!!!

I dont think Fletcher is back at 100% yet.He looked sluggish and off pace most of the time against Chelsea.I agree we had a weird game...how many times can we get 3 goals from the first 3 shots at goal...against chelsea!!

Re: Manchester United Champions Thread!!!19!!!!!

Its been reported that Pogba will get to play tonight perhaps alongside the likes of Giggs, Berbatov and Owen....Valencia and Fletcher could be used to boost their fitness too.

Re: Manchester United Champions Thread!!!19!!!!!

Owen and Berbatov will start upfront, It will be a pretty experienced team I reckon, expect Valencia and Park also.

Re: Manchester United Champions Thread!!!19!!!!!

Our reserves don't actually have that many players 'chomping at the bit' right now so I expect you're right - it'll be an experienced team. As Morrison is injured, Tunnicliffe is on loan and Petrucci is probably too young - I can't really see any of the true youth players getting a chance.

Maybe Amos, but that's about it. Sort of worry is that we don't really have any decent reserve/ youth defenders at the moment. Tom Thorpe is okay, but too young really. And that's it. So have no idea who Fergie will stick at the back.

Re: Manchester United Champions Thread!!!19!!!!!

Good news:

Javier Hernandez

"Nothing, it's just a bump, nothing more. It looked like was longer, they were looking for a fracture, that's why they ran those tests on him. I expect him to be training without incident on Wednesday."

Also Welbeck is back v.soon...

Re: Manchester United Champions Thread!!!19!!!!!

Petrucci is going to turn 20 soon so he's not that "young" but I do see your point.

Not sure why your worrying about the lack of defenders coming through, the current batch in the first team don't look like their going anywhere.

In terms of midfield, Morrison and Pogba look big talents, and Macheda is a talent for the forwards but similar to our defence its a heavily stacked area of the team anyway.

This deserved posting I thought

Sorry - I meant with tonight in mind. With Rio, Vida, Smalling and Rafael all out, we don't really want to play Evans/ Jones/ Evra as we have no cover.

And, wow, just seen the team. 1 recognised centre back, and it's his first team debut! Wtf?

!??!?!

I have no idea how you line up with, literally, 7 attacking players, 1 cmf and 2 defenders.

Re: Manchester United Champions Thread!!!19!!!!!

Oh and Fryers has played CB a couple times, but last season was mainly a left back.

Maybe this is Giggsy's final chance to play every outfield position? We'll stick him as CB? He's got good spring.

We're gonna get spanked. And normally I wouldn't care cause it'd be fun with that lineup. But it's Leeds ffs!!!!

Re: Manchester United Champions Thread!!!19!!!!!

Looks like Leeds are the ones getting spanked lol.

Not playing too bad, stringing some nice moves together. Just gotta keep the ball better in some instances. Fryers looks steady.

Re: Manchester United Champions Thread!!!19!!!!!

Carrick and Berbatov as CBs. Not even in PES would I imagine that! Yeah Carrick has played there when our entire defence was on the treatment table, but never imagined ending the game with this defence lol.

Ok. Berbatov at CB.

I'm done. I know longer understand football.

*and will never doubt Fergie again. Hangs head in shame.*

Re: Manchester United Champions Thread!!!19!!!!!

He even managed to get a clearing header!

The youngsters show real potential. Fryers wasn't really tested, but his distribution looked pretty good. Pogba was lively, not afraid to ask for the ball.
