A real test of someone's character comes when they're facing adversity. Messi's blessed with such amazing talent that he rarely has to face difficulties. But from what I've seen, he turns quite ugly when he's frustrated. It happens very rarely but that side of him does exist.

A team like Barca rarely loses, which is why Messi doesnt have to become "ugly".

Our squad is good enough to win comfortably, I just don't think we'll play the same level of football like the apparent "first team" currently is.

The best players are all winners, and you've all heart of the "show me a good loser and..." Speaking of World's best I do think this is the season where Nani makes everyone put him up their with some of the best around. I've said it for a year though the main thing he needs to add is more goals to his game as every other facet (IMO) is to a great level.

Excited to see Danny starting up front for United. Looks an attacking lineup depending on where Valencia/ Giggs are playing. Also might just be a chance to see Ando in his AMF role...

Ugh. We were terrible, but still hurts to have gone behind to a penalty that was such a terrible call. Deserved not to win, but what was the ref playing at? Wonderful defending from Valencia, but that ref would not be deterred. Prick.

I thought it was a penalty. Plucky Basel were well worth their point.

The inexperience of Fabio and Jones was shown up at this level, as well as Valencia being played in an unfamiliar position late in the game.

Reminiscent of the draw against Porto at OT a couple of years ago.

I don't know what to say really. To go from a 2-0 lead and then trail 2-3 at Old Trafford is incredible. Defending was atrocious at times. I thought it was a penalty tbh.

On another note, Nani's crosses were just brilliant.

Oh, and I think Basel should sign the ref as a defensive midfielder.

Lack of concentration, far too open, defensive injuries are really piling up on us.

Basel were good, played some nice stuff and we might've got lucky because their finishing was so poor but then they get three in twenty minutes.

We really can't afford to be lax like this, no idea why Nani didn't start, he's obviously our best player at the minute.

Nice to see Welbeck get off the mark in Europe, I'm starting to believe in him.

Wow, I still don't see it as a penalty at all - Valencia got his body between the attacker and the ball - but I guess it's not as clear cut for others. So fair enough.

No idea what Fergie said to the team at half time. It must have been:

Youse lot are defending like arseholes. ARSEHOLES. No doot about that. Now go out there and keep defending like arseholes.

Rio-Jones just didn't seem to mesh well as a partnership. Add in Fabio and Evra marauding forward at every opportunity and even Carrick playing higher up the pitch than usual.

Made for a very open and enjoyable game for the neutral. But usually we're much more disciplined at the back and in midfield in Europe.

But at least Basel didn't just come to make up the numbers. They had nothing to lose and it showed in the adventurous nature of their forward play.

Good lesson that was, We were poor and it just shows while the youth is relishing the League campaign European football requires that experience and a lot of those lads seem extremely naive for the big games in Europe.

I thought yeah open match then 2 goals up....typical mutd stuff, then the unthinkable happen. Rio was lucky not to get send off imo n the pen could of gone either way but for europe that's down to script. Sadly if young wud of fell he wud gotten a pen too me think. I still think you lots will win group so no worries i find this thread to be dull atm nothing really to moan abt if you look at the clubs around the top :LOL: mutd stir waters while the rest are sinking

Meant to say - I totally believe in Welbeck. Keep forgetting he's only 20. Local lad, with the skillset that United love to see in a forward (pace, height, good feet and pretty good awareness).

He's not the finished article by any means, but am really excited for him. Still remember his penalty miss when he was 17 in that friend in Abu Dhabi.

Hernandez should be back at the weekend, Rooney probably bench if were lucky. Last couple of defensive displays make me miss Vidic more than the rest. crazy the quality of players currently missing and yet we can feel really good sides.

Thing the International break came at a good time for us, we seem to have a few players with niggles and the team wasn't flowing as well as earlier on.

Vidic being back for Liverpool would be good but then I do worry about him when he first returns.
