Manchester City Thread

oohhh, praia do tamariz... sweet memories :)) i was there for new year's eve in 2004. it was a wild night... actually it was a wild month!! :D
i didn't know u were from estoril andre. it's a shame we didn't know each others back during my time in portugal... oh well, who knows, maybe one day i'll be back..... (my girl has never been to portugal ;) ).

the entire cascais district is like a portuguese take on the french riviera.... wich actually turns out to be much better than its french counterpart on every possible aspect. instead of that plastic\boring architecture u get in montecarlo and beaulieu, u're surrounded by art nouveau villas and buildings (wich have nothing to envy to palermo's, napoli's or barcelona's art nouveau).
instead of having a beach u can only look at, because the water is always too damn cold (like in nice or st. tropez), u can swim from april till late september and enjoy those lovely restaurants on the beaches.
instead of having a casino filled with fops and millionaire snobs, u have a casino filled with under 30s guys and girls, whose only desire is to win a couple hundreds euros, so they can extend their vacation for 1 more week ( ).

How could I have forgotten this? You should punch me next time I don’t reply you! I’ve been busy with NBA stuff lately so I forgot to enter in the footie forum last week. :P

Wow, you have an outstanding knowledge about the whole Cascais town as I can see. I agree on everything you sorted out but do you know what is great? Besides the Cascais area you have a lovely small town just 15 minutes away from here called Sintra (I guess we have already talked about Sintra at Women’s board). Isn’t that great? C’mon, sun, beach, girls, architecture, historical places, good cuisine, all together in the same district.

Ben, next time you go here you better call me first. There are some great things I can introduce you! I’m sure your girl will love it as well. ;)

Oh, and btw, you can swim here from March to October at the very least. Last year I went to the beach for the last time on the 5th October hehe. :D

As for the topic, Man City better change the mentality for their upcoming fixtures. Their arrogance and “easy win” presumption have killed them over the last 3 matches.

damit, why didnt you guys comment about cascais when i was asking about places to go on my honeymoon in portugal.. althought luz and burgau were awesome, libson was cool too, but that place looks sick

where is that orphanage?!?!??! Im ready to adopt :)
LOL! anyway yeah, "balotelli" is the surname of the italian family who adopted him. he was born in palermo from ghanese parents. he spent his first 3 or 4 years in palermo, then something happened with his parents (some say they abandoned him, but there are also different stories floating around). anyway he was adopted by this family from upnorth (a village nearby milano) and that's where he grew up.

sorry buddy, i didn't even know u were married (congrats bro! gonna "join the club" myself pretty soon). as for missing cascais, that's not necessarily a bad thing. u see, cascais is no place for married people. spending there your honeymoon would be like visiting the most inviting restaurant while on a strict diet, if u know what i mean :P
Sintra on the other side (the small village Andre mentioned) is the perfect spot for a honeymoon... the place looks like it came straight out of a fairy tale... i really hope u didn't miss it, as that would have been a real shame :))

not as much as i would like. i only "discovered" cascais during my last days in portugal (i litterally stumbled upon cascais while going back to lisboa from cabo da roca), and i only had about a week left to spend there before leaving portugal.

just introduce me to some polvo à lagareiro and i'll be a happy man :P jokes apart, i can definitely see myself going back to portugal someday, as i absolutely loved the time i spent there. and i will certainly let u know, of course ;)

So what? People change their minds. Wasn't Rooney at one point certain to leave United to then got the biggest contract?!

In Mancini's defense, he was offering him to Milan and Inter in the winter market but they couldn't afford him . PSG had a deal but Tevez didn't want to go there. So what's the solution?

I don't see anything wrong with having Tevez back. If he has made things right, he could be a great addition.

Go on Fergie: "If you talk about desperation, they played a player the other night who refused to go on the pitch, the manager said he'd never play again and he takes a five-month holiday in Argentina. What is that? Could that come under the description of desperation?"

(In response to Vieira calling Schole's return 'desperation' - which it is for me)

Are we add WWE levels yet?

Oh no not again...i hate this. But if i were Mancini i would be happy with this: Ferguson is afraid of City, he will not play mind games with Wolves, Wigan or Fulham...

Oh c'mon Gerd. Wolves, Wigan and Fulham haven't tried sly digs at us so why would he bother.

Plus with the Tevez thing he had an automatic win. City can't say a word after the way they've folded over Carlos and Mancini saying he'd never play for them again.

They wish they had Scholes themselves.

I completely agree with you, but still...Ferguson does it because he considers City a dangerous team. If City would have been 12th, he wouldn't bother...

its standard form for SAF gerd mate..

soon as wenger's team were no longer title rivals he has nothing but kind words for his "old" nemisis...

SAF only got into it with Rafa once he had lfc ready for a title push..

The fact he's getting into it now is also standard SAF...

he's been around long enough now that non of this is new, its SAF working the room...

he a sly old dog!!

Congratz City. Deserving champions.

Best team in the division this year. Can't argue.

But. They bought this title. In a manner I find very distasteful. Their operating losses this year - that's just LOSSES are greater than almost every team in the league's entire expenditure.

So to be honest, of course they won.

beachryan get a grip mate! no one cares how much they spend we`re fans not accountants  mutd were 8 pts and led in goal differences ... still far from over .

The title is City's to loose...throughout the season they played the better football, but i still got a feeling United will win it...

Bad tactics from Ferguson tonight. United should have attacked and why was their player in form on the bench (Valencia).

Happy for Kompany.

But we're talking about a sporting competition. I may not be an accountant but I doubt many people would watch car racing if one team was allowed to spend 10x as much as the other teams.

Anyway, I realise as a United fan it's pretty hypocritical and it is - as much as I've enjoyed the last 20 years I still wish the league was still more unpredictable even if it meant us not winning as often.

The fact is that in the last 25 years of the prem, the only teams to have won it were the great Arsenal team, a record-spending Blackburn team, a record-spending Chelsea team and now a record-spending City team. That says to me that football is pretty simple: to win a league all you need to do is be willing to operate an unsustainable business model.

Also, I'm not an accountant but if City's Sheikh were to walk away tomorrow that club would go bankrupt and be relegated. Even non-accountants should be able to understand that.

Yes, it is a bit hypocritical. United are not in a great financial position but still have a bigger transfer budget than the majority of teams in the Premier League and have done for many years. To call out Chelsea and City for upsetting the traditional hierarchy smacks of sour grapes when United have enjoyed financial dominance over the rest of the league for so long.

Which is why football needs a salary cap.

I also think there is a big difference between spending what you earn, and spending more than what you earn. Only one of those is a danger to a club.

Admittedly we earned our financial success but still.

Salary cap would make things interesting again.

More chance of Wolves winning the league this season than that happening though.

To United's credit, their success was built on players from their youth team in the early nineties who went on the serve them well for the next 10-15 years (some still going today) so I can see where the accusations of City buying their way to the title come from.

A salary cap would be interesting but would have to be a Europe-wide agreement unless the Premier League fancies seeing it's best talent go elsewhere.

I wonder with all the ££ spending on players which team has the player with the highest shirt sales in the PL ?

I love the fact that the player of the year n top scorer was bought for £2.5m ...I know it took 5 years to develop ,but rome wasn`t build in a season.
