Re: Liverpool Thread(I Just Can't Get Enough!!)

Dalglish on #lfc summer transfers: "There will be movement in and out...Some, you might even recognise the names."

Re: Liverpool Thread(I Just Can't Get Enough!!)

If we lose, it's far from the worst day of the season. We've already done better than I expected given the start we had and nobody would've expected us to get into Europe in January.

Haha did I forget what we went through earlier in the season? I mean after all that hype and promise, then the loss and effectively no europa league. Long live King Kenny !

Re: Liverpool Thread(I Just Can't Get Enough!!)

Simillar thing with Carroll and Crouch might be winning headers, scoring goals with head, and making more defenders marking you...With such big - strong CF, there is much harder to defend him, and this might be great becouse if more defenders will look after Carroll, the more space for wide players or Suarez/Gerrard... Torres was marked this way his second season, Crouch was marked like this all the time.. in my memory is simillar big striker - Jan Koller of czech republic, that played this way in Bundesliga scoring many goals or making space for others..

i might even say we will be better with Carroll as only man up front..with 4 players behind him it will be hell for the defenders to mark him..

Re: Liverpool Thread(I Just Can't Get Enough!!)

I've just finished reading a long article about Liverpool in FourFourTwo. I must say that now i understand why Hodgson wasn't liked by Liverpool fans, as he played very defensive and there seems to be a tradition of good football in Liverpool. A litle bit like Ajax.

I will also buy Dalglish's book, since he is one of my alltime favourites.

Re: Liverpool Thread(I Just Can't Get Enough!!)

Cirigliano when he gets the chance does well in his deeper role and Pereyra has some unbelievable ability.

But yes Lanzini is another diamond in the rough. But they must be careful with him.

I also rate Pezzella highly as a centreback of class along with other kids like Pugh, Andrada (classy finisher) and even Diego Simeone's son is doing very nicely.

FM9 needs work on his game and Affranchino he is a decent player but I suppose would not be that much missed if Udinese do buy him.

Hope you got the tickets to the superclasico.;) It's not really in the River tradition to play like the current way Lopez does.
Yes, we have a lot of youngsters coming in. Hopefully with a new manager next season we can fight for tournament and be back in american football.
Where are you from ?

I guess the magic wand does exist then, also makes a mockery of Roy saying nobody could do better with the squad of players.

Re: Liverpool Thread(I Just Can't Get Enough!!)

Seeing as Carrol has been injured for most of the season for the club (and has played about as much as Babel might have) it means that the only change in the squad is Torres for Suarez.

Watford England which is on the outskirts of London. And despite being English an ardent Argentina fan since I was a little boy.

River has such history. Total football was created there Peucelle and co.

There's a thread on the road ahead for Argentina in the football thrad. Would be nice if you could contribute. ;)

Regarding Hodgson and Dalglish. Roy always had a moping look on his face beset with worry and cares and that seemed to transmit itself to the players.

With Kenny he is living the game and enthuses the players. When Robinson had to come on recently he joked with the lad and settled him right away and calmed Flangan after that collision with Carragher.

Everyone is smiling and it builds real team spirit and cohesion.

Anyone who does not want to be there will be removed.

Dalglish plays wit h roughly the same players, but since Dalglish has come the uncertainty about the future of the club is gone. That is a huge difference compared to the circumstances that Roy had to face.

Secondly, the fans a total different disposition towards King Kenny than towards Roy...like i said in my last post, i understand that now...but still it is a huge difference...

While i think that yes Hodgson perhaps wasn't suited to manage Liverpool, i still think that he never got a fair chance...he should never have accepted that job...but do you refuse to work for a club like Liverpool (that was basically Jovanovic's reasoning too)?

And now i will try to stop defending Hodgson...

Carroll had small injury with us - the leg injury in Arsenal match i guess...but he should be ok if he was nominated to play for England U21 now..

edit: looks like Carroll is ok now..

I disagree a little...The only problem in my opinion was Hodgson itself...Liverpool fans are not stupid, they had great manager in Benitez, who achieved a lot if you look at it from now... and after Roy´s regime especialy... and the problem with Roy was not the uncertainty about future, since the new owners came exactly when Roy was not yet started properly.. so we had new owners and we knew the club is stabilised from that moment, we still got Roy as coach, who constatnly and everytime he speak - i was ashamed to even listen to his interviews.. he speak to much bullshit..he was mate with Ferguson, he made himself look idiotic...not to mention the players that were gone becouse of him (Aquilani,Insua,Mascherano...) and players we got inside the club he choosed (Poulsen, Konchesky..) Joe Cole was bought before Roy came and so was Shelvey, Wilson (on Meireles i´m sure we looked as posibility in past..not sure if he was or wasn´t Roy´s choice..) Looking back i think only players that were happy that time with Hodgson were Stevie and Carra..

The results were bad, becouse the team Roy managed to build was bad as well.. Not to mention his stupid behaviour that made us all ashamed...

Kenny is the oposite of this, he took over knowing he had to save the season with this squad... and he turned it around amazingly.. he had to deal with Torres wanting out, he had to deal with knowing Stevie´s out for rest of season, Kelly, Johnson, injured long term... and he did amazingly...

he´s got fair chance, the same as Roy..except he is knew legend and knows what to do or what not to do or say...

Re: Liverpool Thread(I Just Can't Get Enough!!)

I think you're being a bit harsh on Roy there PIPA.

No doubt Kenny has shown him up by the way he has galvanized the side and changed the atmosphere at Anfield but certain players like Mascherano were wanting to go no matter what.

Insua simply was not good enough anyway for a club like Liverpool.

Yes Hodgson made awful picks in Konchesky and Poulsen but perhaps that was all that could be afforded at the time.

More of the blame should be apportioned to those greedy vultures H&G and all the uncertainity they created and negative energy at the club metaphorically speaking.

And I know there is an intense rivalry between the two giants in the northwest but Roy always speaks in a courteous fashion about opponents no matter who they are.

Roy per se is not a bad manager. You can look at his club record but he is not a manager fitted to a side like Liverpool with a tradition of playing attacking free flowing football. There were times even under Benitez when there were some complaints about the style displayed.

Re: Liverpool Thread(I Just Can't Get Enough!!)

Yes, maybe Mascherano wanted to go..but so did Torres and Reina lately..now Reina says he will stay and play under Dalglish, most of the squad like´s Kenny more than Roy, it´s obvious...Roy is good coach, but he came in bad time and said some bad things or wrong things..wich made him unfavourable among the supporters... he lacked the Liverpool way of keeping things quiet and not reviel everything.. he said we should judge him after 10 games.. then after 10 bad games he said this is Rafa´s squad and result of Rafa´s bad transfers...yet, Kenny said he is thankfull to Rafa for revitalising the academy, that we have now... Kenny never moaned about the squad he got..he used the players he had, motivated them...and now we have problem what player to pick in full backs, since all our fullbacks seem to be great.. Kelly, Flanagan, Robinson, Johnson + new LB..that´s defence sorted for next 10 years if they stay..

but yes...to blame are those who picked Roy at first place, thanks God we are not having them in club anymore..

Re: Liverpool Thread(I Just Can't Get Enough!!)

LONDON (AP)—As Manchester United prepares to celebrate surpassing Liverpool’s haul of 18 English league titles, the American owners of its Anfield rivals are searching for the deals that will fund their bid to reclaim the cherished record.

Fenway Sports Group believes the cash will come rolling in after increasing Liverpool’s commercial potential by offering deals in conjunction with the rest of its American sports portfolio.

Not only does John Henry’s group include baseball’s Boston Red Sox and the Roush Fenway Racing NASCAR team, but now NBA’s two-time reigning MVP LeBron James has a small stake in Liverpool.

“What we are really focused on now is supporting efforts in the sponsorship area, especially North America,” Fenway Sports Group president Sam Kennedy said in an interview with The Associated Press.

“We are in the early stages of the development of Liverpool in the United States. There are opportunities in sponsorship, retail and broadcasting … and in having Liverpool come over to North America at some point.”

The takeover by FSG at Liverpool halted the team’s steady decline, with the return of Kenny Dalglish as manager also helping revitalize fortunes on the pitch.

Dalglish delivered Liverpool’s last championship crown in 1990, but United is a point away from capturing a 12th title since 1992 and toppling its fiercest rival as the most successful club in English league history.

FSG, which rescued Liverpool in October by ending the heavily indebted regime of Tom Hicks and George Gillett Jr., is already planning its response.

“We’ve been able to stabilize things from a business perspective by removing the debt of the team first and foremost,” Kennedy said. “But we haven’t achieved anything yet at Liverpool other than taking steps to stabilize the club.”

Even though European clubs will be restricted from spending more than they earn under UEFA’s new financial rules, Henry had already resisted deficit-spending at the Red Sox.

So for any spending spree on players or lucrative deals for Liverpool’s existing talent to happen, the onus falls on the commercials teams working both in New England and old England.

“We are going to aggressively market the team and pursue commercial revenues at the Red Sox and at Liverpool so we can reinvest in the player payroll at the Red Sox and the playing squad at Liverpool,” Kennedy said.

The battle to catch Man United is not just happening on the pitch. Kennedy is working with Liverpool managing director Ian Ayre on how to emulate Man United’s commercial operation, which has successfully a string of negotiated country-specific sponsorship deals around the world.

While Man United generated 286.4 million pounds ($469 million) in the year to June 2010, Liverpool’s revenue between August 2009 and July 2010 was 184 million pounds ($301 million).

“They may be our rivals but we have to respect them—they are setting the standards that we have to follow,” Dalglish said, referring to Liverpool’s title-record being surpassed. But his comments also apply to Liverpool’s off-field operations.

Liverpool will have to cope without tens of millions of pounds of Champions League income for a second straight season in 2011-2.

But Liverpool is negotiating with Boston-based Warrior Sports to replace Adidas as its kit manufacturer in a deal worth a reported 25 million pounds annually.

The club has been financially hamstrung by its aging 45,000-capacity Anfield stadium, where there are just 34 luxury suites and few amenities to generate funding to enhance the squad.

Manchester United’s Old Trafford can fit 76,000 fans and Arsenal moved from 38,000-seat Highbury into 60,000-seat Emirates Stadium in July 2006.

FSG is yet to decide whether it is economically viable to build the replacement for Anfield on the nearby Stanley Park. Hicks and Gillett abandoned the $800-million project due to the global financial crisis.

Key to reviving any plans will be if a naming-rights deal can be secured. Arsenal secured a 15-year deal with Emirates airline worth 100 million pounds.

“We are combing the earth looking for a potential naming rights partner for a new stadium,” Kennedy said. “If we were able to get a naming rights partner that would certainly factor into our analysis and will help as we look to make a decision on a refurb (of Anfield) versus a newbuild.

“That process has just gotten under way and we are out there talking to folks around the world.”

If they decide to revamp Anfield, FSG will look to emulating the overhaul of Fenway Park and look for sponsors for different areas of the ground, recognizing that it is difficult to re-brand an iconic venue like Anfield with a sponsor’s name.
