Liverpool Thread

Re: Liverpool Thread(I Just Can't Get Enough!!)

No way your top 3 IMO, nowhere near I think United, Chelsea City and Arsenal are all DEFINITELY better sides as of right now, Spurs had the CL to deal with for the first time this year which they wont next year. Spurs are also a much closer to being a complete side than you lot and I think they will spend also.

Re: Liverpool Thread(I Just Can't Get Enough!!)

This is what Aquilani said yesterday:
"Io la sto vivendo in maniera tranquilla, come ho fatto tutto l'anno. Sapevo che arrivati a questo punto bisognava tirare le somme. Mancano pochi giorni a questa scadenza: è ovvio che può succedere di tutto. Io sono sereno, sono tranquillo. La squadra proprietaria del mio cartellino è una grande squadra, quindi sono sereno".
I dont speak italian but it has some similarities with spanish. What I could pick up is that he says that anything can happen before next Sunday that is the date until Juve can exercise the option they have with him. He also says that he is very calm and that the club that owns him is very big so that gives him serenity.

Re: Liverpool Thread(I Just Can't Get Enough!!)

Have to agree with Younggun (doesn't happen often ;) ) except for the Spurs comment. From what I have read, not qualifying means they will have to be very frugall and might need to sell.

Squad wise the club (atm, depends also on the summer) is a 5th/6th place team. They are performing great atm, but lasting a whole season is another matter. And the (lack of) pressure has been mentioned before, it's all very well doing great when there aren't any expectations but starting a season with the expectation that the team will finish in CL places is another matter. I do think Kenny can easily deal with it though, not sure about most of the young/new players.

But as shown this season, the difference between 6th and 4th, and possibly 3rd is very small. The fluctuations have been huge this season, so using that as a base, and the expectation that the clubs will be closer next season(atleast 2nd to 6th imo) means that the margin between being a 6th place team and a 4th place team is very small. It just depends on how negative or positive you are and which position you aim for :P

@ Gerd,
Yeah didn't add Arsenal as I expect them to be doing precisely what they have been doing the past 5 years, looking good and challenging for 3rd/4th, with Wenger continuing to not adress the problems in the team/squad. If he does fix those issue's with some good signings I think they will be 2nd/3rd place challengers....I still think his mentality, and the effect that has on the players means they won't get that toughness/steel to win the league.
And Chelsea....I'm not sure, it really depends on fitness with them. I think the chances of more injuries is only going to increase so I can see them either sustaining their current level or regressing, assuming Roman doesn't go and spend another 150mil on players.

Re: Liverpool Thread(I Just Can't Get Enough!!)

I think the top end of the league quality wise will be better next year, City will invest in some big names, Chelsea will improve a bit, We'll improve a bit depending on how we replace VDS and Spurs will probably get a top CF atleast. Arsenal might stand still or go backwards but other than them I think the quality will rise.

Re: Liverpool Thread(I Just Can't Get Enough!!)

City investing a lot don´t mean they automatically improve..in fact they have such names-packed squad, that even those who were performing a lot in other leagues can´t repeat this form now...not talking about to many superstars is not the right way..especialy if you want to play to get to the national teams... rather than sit on bench...

for example Tevez might go to other team in summer...

compare City "amazing" squad and their worth with the total worth of LFC squad that beat them at Anfield..

Tevez is almost certain to go to Internazionale but Abu Dhabi United are likely to go after the likes of Pastore &/or Ganso for example even despite his injury and someone like Kun unfortunately.

However like Real Madrid I can see it becoming a circus.

Re: Liverpool Thread(I Just Can't Get Enough!!)

well.. i saw on pitch we can beat them..

but i think the money they throw in football will somehow improve the quality of game....globaly... the other side of this is overpriced players and overall Real Madrid model of galacticos..that i personaly find discousting.

and the least...the players future is on stake..

so if they buy Ganso, where will Silva fit in? he´s spain international, if they get Adebayor back, where will Ballotelli or Dzeko play..

what happend to Dzeko, Kolarov in city? where are this players? ...

Re: Liverpool Thread(I Just Can't Get Enough!!)

I think City wrong to take Dzeko , Kolarov , Ballotelli and many others , Tevez is best buy from city , u can say now they have good team but this team is not strong for CL hell no i think they will get some big names in summer my opinion is that next season Arsenal will be hard to be on top 4 I hope we (Liverpool) get some about 2 quality Midfielder 1 Striker and 1 or 2 defender we have good chance for get Premier League , I know he have some young and great players but sometimes experiens its important too and i think is hard to win premier league with young players we see this to arsenal example !

Re: Liverpool Thread(I Just Can't Get Enough!!)

think gerd made a very good point about steven gerrard.i also strongly he should be sold now to a real or milan side.not getting any younger, change might be good for him and the main reason is,i've always thought we play more like a "team" when stevie isnt playing.of cos he has those exceptional games when he's really arsed.might be the best for both club and him personally to part ways.as long as we get aqua back.carra needs to retire imo.leave when he's still clinging to the top else its just gonna get sad.make ity 668 appearances and leave.

the point aboout dalglish couldnt have done any better, who we kidding?fergie could have done better with converting all those silly draws to wins.ancelotti could have done better in regards to that 2mth period when all the money couldnt buy them a win.wenger could have done better than bottling it nearly every damn season.dalglish could have done better than those draws, defeats to reletion threatened sides and goin out on a whimper in the europa league to europes greatest team of all time BRAGA.whoever said lets not get carried away is extremely right.calm down.lets not judge him over half a season and please for the love of god stop using that stupid "this is the table would look like if" excuse.dont forget the league this year has been piss poor.utd, chelsea, arsenal has been really poor but definitely not next season.we can challenge but we gonna have to improve as well.be it players or manager....

Re: Liverpool Thread(I Just Can't Get Enough!!)

We're being linked with all kinds of players constantly now, it's going to be a crazy summer!

Obviously there's going to be quite a few players leaving to trim the wage bill and the squad as a whole should get strengthened. I keep seeing Enrique, Mata, Matuide, Young, Downing and Cahill mentioned too. Also saw a report this morning that both Arsenal and us have been offered Lassana Diarra for £12m.

Re: Liverpool Thread(I Just Can't Get Enough!!)

I started reading Kenny's book "My Liverpool Home" last night and he's talking about Bob Paisley at this point:

He was a proud football man, who always demanded pride in the performance. A year later, we were leading Notts County, Rushie grabbed a hat-trick and we eased up. Rather than a 'well done, lads', Bob went ballistic.

'After the fourth goal, you played as if it were a testimonial,' he stormed. 'I never want to see that again. This is Liverpool.' This was Bob simply keeping us on an even keel, stressing that even what may seem like a resounding victory could be improved upon. The game finished 5-1.

Made me laugh and it sounds a lot like Kenny's style as well really, with the Fulham game being a good example. Despite us taking such a lead, we still kept trying to attack and that's a huge difference to other managers we've had. Rafa used to wind everyone I know up by sitting the team back when we had a 1-0 lead.

Hopefully we'll carry on with that hunger like the old teams had where we went out to punish teams until the final whistle.

As @MattLawExpress says if colleague Paul Joyce says Liverpool lead race for Ashley Young, then Liverpool lead race for Ashley Young. #fb

bensmith_Times Ben Smith
#LFC are a step ahead of #MUFC in race for Ashley Young although I get the impression United's priorities lie elsewhere

WINGERS!

Finally, what some of us have been banging on about you lot needing for years!

i don´t think we play more like team..we play like a team without Steven Gerrard..with him we are two times better already...

selling our captain now, in his best years, with possibility to add real quality in squad, now that we have Suarez and just waiting for him to return from injury...would be insane..

i can bet with you he will captain our team next season when fit + carra will retire, not just now i dont think so.. he still has lot to offer...he needs to teach our young defenders on field, as he did exceptionaly with Flanagan this latest games..

Stevie will retire with LFC i doubt he would want to leave the club at this stage especialy...

Re: Liverpool Thread(I Just Can't Get Enough!!)

Hopefully you get him then, good player but not for United I hope ;))

City have bought for lots but don't posses the quality you'd expect, but I do think they will be rubbing their hands for the Summer, I think defensively their pretty much set and that' was a wise move and will basically bolster their forward play. 7-8 will leave and expect the likes of Kaka, Ibrahimovic and Sanchez to be targets. They could be VASTLY improved come season opener.

Gerrard won't want to leave now, he couldn't get into any top side, he needs to learn to play that deep role like Scholes to prolong his career.

Re: Liverpool Thread(I Just Can't Get Enough!!)

Sanchez is off to Barca from what I've heard.

Re: Liverpool Thread(I Just Can't Get Enough!!)

about Sanchez and Barca, personaly i doubt this...

Barca need to replace Bojan who will most probably go... i think they buy Rossi from Villareal, if he don´t return to Italy to play for a big team..

i think Juve or Roma, since AC and Inter have already top strikers..

so i think Barca will not buy a superstar young player that playes on Messi position, now that they have Affelay, who also can play there and a great B team that they can pick players from...

on the other side, they will get some money for selling Ibra to AC...

we will see..but i think Sanchez will not go there..

as for us, i think we will buy players that fit our system...we don´t buy Ashley Young for not having much better wingers avileable.. ironicaly also Sanchez...but i think we try to buy this type of player becouse he could provide great crosses to Carroll...what we need exactly..

Re: Liverpool Thread(I Just Can't Get Enough!!)

If it's good crosses for Carroll you want, then Young would be the better option.

Sanchez dwarfs him in every other aspect though.

Re: Liverpool Thread(I Just Can't Get Enough!!)

also in aspect of price i think.. but then again, if we should deciede between overpriced Young that is 26 and between very expensive 21 old Chile player...

i would buy both :D

so either:

---------- Carroll -----------

Suarez --- Gerrard --- Sanchez

or:

---------- Carroll ---------

Young --- Gerrard --- Suarez

there is plenty of options :P

if we buy both (dreaming)

with Gerrard:

---------- Suarez ---------

Young --- Gerrard --- Sanchez

without Gerrard:

---------- Carroll ---------

Young --- Suarez --- Sanchez

:...:...:...

Re: Liverpool Thread(I Just Can't Get Enough!!)

Tbh with Gerrard and Meireles also doing a great job in those positions Young would be a priority imo. Meireles, Gerrard and Suarez can all interchange. Adding Young means Meireles and Gerrard can interchange from CM to AM with Lucas being the DM.

I guess another good back-up player is needed for on the wings. And that's not taking into account that Aquilani might come back.

Re: Liverpool Thread(I Just Can't Get Enough!!)

I think Aquilani will return to Liverpool. Juventus have been heavily linked to signing Pirlo on a free transfer lately, and I'm not surprised if it happens.

Re: Liverpool Thread(I Just Can't Get Enough!!)

According to Gazzetta Dello Sport Juventus have ceased negotiations, so if it is true, it is up to Kenny now. We dont need to sell him, if we dont want to.
But, i have the feeling that he is going to end up in Milan as the replacement of Pirlo.

About Sanchez vs Young. If it is good crossed what we want (and it should be a priority), then we should forget about Alexis Sanchez. The guy cant cross.

Re: Liverpool Thread(I Just Can't Get Enough!!)

Milan might go after Montolivo as well..

I think the thing will deciede if he want´s to come back or not...of course after the prize we want will be accepted by Juve..

Re: Liverpool Thread(I Just Can't Get Enough!!)

Another thing that this book has got me thinking about is the chain of managers that we've had since Kenny joined. The Boot Room. Just makes me wonder whether Kenny is going to stay for another few years then they'll promote Carra or Gerrard up to be player-manager or just manager.

It fits in with our history of promoting from within whilst also fitting with FSG's aim of having a young manager in charge with which they can build the club with.

Re: Liverpool Thread(I Just Can't Get Enough!!)

Apparently in the Dutch press there is a rumour that Liverpool are after Jan Vertonghen. In the Belgian press the rumour is that Man City and Barcelona are after Vertonghen.

I know young Belgian player are overhyped, but to me Jan Vertonghen is our best player. he is terribly versatile: for Ajax he plays CB but he can also play DMF (IMO his best position), LB and LMF. He has an "over my death body"-mentality and leaders quality. He's a splendid defender, has a good pass and a very good shot from distance.

Maybe i'm biased. I first saw this guy with our national team and i liked him immediately. I really, really hope he can go to Liverpool and not to Man City...

Of course i maybe wrong, but this guy would be a fantastic buy. If there is one Belgian player who has everything to make it, then it's Vertonghen.

Re: Liverpool Thread(I Just Can't Get Enough!!)

Juventus agreed terms with Pirlo and he is going to be a bianconeri next season.
It ll be interesting to see what Milan will do now. I dont know if they can buy Ganso because they have already signed Taiwo. So my guess is that they are going for Montolivo (who has had an average season) and for Aquilani.

Re: Liverpool Thread(I Just Can't Get Enough!!)

@ Gerd,

He was on DWDD on ned.3 yesterday having a chat. Didn't want to say either way whether he was going to City or not. But it looked pretty certain that he was going to leave for another club. Maybe with Suarez at Liverpool the club could edge over City, although the money and CL football is very nice. He did say he was looking to move up to maybe a stepping stone to then move to a top club after City. He gave the impression that City is nothing other then an "interesting" club with CL football. He didn't seem impressed by their stature. Maybe Liverpool can offer both, it's still a "steppingstone" with regard to CL football, but after a good season next year he could be playing CL at the top club he is already at.
