Liverpool Thread

Re: Liverpool Thread(I Just Can't Get Enough!!)

I agree and I wasn`t having a dig and I know clubs have different approaches to solving their problems. I know getting a top player ££ doesn`t make a team better the right player does. Look at Torres shine at Chelsea , Arsenal lack a few things and every summer they try to address them nothing is an easy fix.

About holding on to players we lost a few good ones that ultimately admit it was premature to leave. Liverpool lost 2 very strong players (alonso/Masch) that made life impossible to cope even made Torres struggle and causing to a degree Liverpool to fall out of Europe. On a good note Pool seem to close the gap whether they can re-gain their status remains to be seeN. Only the summer could show what lesson were learn or not. Good response PIPA23 respect!

Re: Liverpool Thread(I Just Can't Get Enough!!)

Anyone else think Spearing could be a cracking player if he keeps going with this improvement and getting games? He's looked a bit shaky at times earlier but his performances under Dalglish have been remarkable and he was like a machine today. I'd even go as far as saying he's played as well as I'd seen Masch play for us. Very promising future.

Speaking of future, also very pleased with Robinson when he came on and Flanagan put in another quality game. Thanks to Rafa and Kenny, we're finally starting to see the fruits of the youth system that Rafa revamped a few years ago and I'm so excited for our future with the players we've got lining up to come through the ranks.

Re: Liverpool Thread(I Just Can't Get Enough!!)

fucking proud of my team.

sorry for the words.
Im fucking disgusted with my team.

same old bullshit for 6 years. time for wenger to jog along. Dalglish would NEVER fluff a goal lead with a minute to go..

Its over Wenger. piss off u arrogant prick. You and your tired ass excuses making us look like a laughing stock.

blaming the ref, the sun, the moon, the single blade of grass that wasnt cut. fuck off wenger

Re: Liverpool Thread(I Just Can't Get Enough!!)

well, you lots spend 50 mil in the transfer window something Arsenal hasn`t done in 6 yrs total. We don`t look the part I fully agree but you lots spend £££ to reach what?!?!? 7th spot some achievement there buddy!
Yet ironically we have sold many of our players like Toure and Adebayor and yet what have we brought in return?

Kolsciensky :LMAO:

Re: Liverpool Thread(I Just Can't Get Enough!!)

About the money invested, realy we are at stage where nobody can predict how big actually our summer realy will be..

I realy realy DOUBT that the club knew Torres will hand in a transfer request in January, maybe they knew he was not satisfied and wanted to leave, but not that soon..becouse in early Kenny interviews the man was fully confident in Torres to produce and we were all realy shocked that Torres handed the transfer request... The money we invested in Carroll and Suarez are virtually non existent, we needed a striker to replace Torres in one day untill the end of transfer window...we bought Suarez sooner than Torres handed the request...Basicly everyone expected Suarez to play alongside Torres..

That means our new owners invested knowing they buy a player full sume 23 milions on Suarez, knowing Torres will be his striking partner. We sold Babel to cover up for Suarez as well.. and we previously tried to swap Babel + money for Suarez, but this failed...

What i´m saying is, we were spending a lot under Benitez, but we also have sold players for lot´s of money... We had difficult time with previous owners and the managment who let Rafa go without him finishing the job.. Acutally Rafa bought many players as bargains, we still have few good players on loan... Joe Cole was a mistake of previous regime, so was Konchesky, Poulsen etc...but then again many players we have now were for free...actually we pay nothing for Aurelio, Maxi Rodriguez..

here is a big post about truth of Rafa signings and our revenue from selling our players as well:

First things first - anyone who feels incensed, angry or frustrated at OUR manager's transfer record after hearing the 'media pundits' on air and in newspapers, would do well do read this article:

http://bleacherreport.com/articles/...transfer-history-with-liverpool-football-club

The summary of the article - Rafa has 'sold on' only 20 players that HE HAD BOUGHT. So the sale of garbage players inherited by Rafa should NEVER be included in his transfer 'failings'. In analyzing these 20, Rafa has made a fine Profit, thanks to the huge transfer fee of Alonso.

Profit: 8

Alonso +20, Carson +2.25, Barragan +0.43, Sissoko +2.6, Crouch +4.0, Gonzalez +2.0, Bellamy +1.5, Nunez +0.5

Loss: 7

Pennant -6.0, Garcia -2.0, Morientes -3.3, Palletta -0.8, Josemi (swapped for) Kromkamp -0.25, Idrizaj -0.19, Keane -3.0 (could be even less depending on contract triggers)

Even: 5

(Please Note: The Article is old and doesnt include the transfers of 2009 summer. I hence include Alonso, Arbeloa and Pennant in the 20 above)

So, from an unbiased, factual perspective the true 'HOWLERS' in the transfer market from Rafa have been:

- Morientes: Never got up to pace of the EPL. Possibly was anyways past his peak when Rafa bought him in.

- Keane: A still unconcluded saga regarding who really bought him in. Rafa or the now gone Parry. Was the manager made to work for 6 months with a player he never wanted or did Rafa make a far too expensive mistake which he eagerly settled within 6 months. The jury's still out.

- Alonso: Not because he made a cool 20 M profit, but because he was the engine of the LFC midfield, a player that was mismanaged in the 2008 summer, he followed it with his best season performance. A player that shouldve ended his career at Anfield - had his belief shattered and value demeaned with the constant pursuit of the supremely average Barry.

You could possible argue, on present form, that Rafa was too quick to sell Bellamy. Though i strongly believe that the player was sold-on for work-ethic and personal-incompatibility reasons, rather than footballing skills.

The point im making further is - every manager makes mistakes and every manager hits it big in the transfer market. Benitez is no different. To collect one-sided stats and hold them against him when the club is going through a poor run, is incredibly unfair and dumb.

Manager's have to make choices - they are given budgets and they have the entire squad to think about. No one can deny that Rafa has spent money over the years - but love or hate G&H, only since their arrival has he been given the authority to buy the real 15 Mil+ quality players. (Torres, Keane, Johnson, Aquilani)

Prior to that Rafa has HAD to plug holes in the squad with incredibly cheap cheque sizes - guess what, you get what you pay for - to think players like Gonzalvez, Pennant, Voronin were Rafa's first choices is stupid at best. The best example is Kyrgiakos - you think its fair to add him to Rafa's spending of 'failed players'? The manage HAD to buy defensive cover - he wanted a Shawcross, the owners gave him 1.5 million - he got Kyrgiakos and had to send his best youth player on loan too (Nemeth)

While i am speculating, i am confident Rafa was in a similar situation when he signed players like Leto, Arbeloa, Palletta, Kromkamp, Nunez, Zenden, Gonzalez, Josemi, Pennant, Bellamy, Crouch. The fact that he has sold on such players AND the fact that till date i would NEVER see any of them play in the top 4 teams, vindicates Rafa and my belief that they were stop-gap temporary buys like Kyrgiakos is.

Rafa doenst have the Real Madrid bullion OR Abra's oil billions OR ManUtd's 76k stadium (and a 18 year managerial run) OR even Sparky's newfound shiekhs - yet he is, in my eyes, doing a FAIR job. (Note, Fair, not good, just Fair)

On the outside we can say what we want as fans. Surely the manager knows BETTER, if NOT the BEST. The three sparkling examples are Kuyt, Lucas and Benayoun.

KUYT: Ill be the first to say that i hated every minute Kuyt was on the pitch in 2007. He has vindicated Rafa's belief in 2008 and while he is having an ordinary year so far - i too would always put him on the first 11.

LUCAS: There are few more vocal and aggressive haters of Lucas than me. But last night's performance states that, at 22 years of age, he really is one of the best holding Midfielders IN THE MAKING. That Rafa is having to depend on him due to Alonso's departure might be grating to fans like me, but the manager has ALWAYS trusted this kid, and he delivered yesterday. I am sure he will still have mediocore days, where he does just enought, nothing too wrong, nothing too good - but in Aquilani and Gerrard's absence, he is an ideal squad player. That hes getting first team experience has been a boon for him (and hopefully for LFC in the long-run)

BENAYOUN: Military medium, too skinny, too light on the ball, poor finishing, no-crossing, no heart, West-Ham trash. All adjectives used for this superb player in the past 3 years. I still think he lacks a little belief and needs to take some edge-of-the-box chances by himself and score, rather than try that last clever pass. But he is the ideal Gerrard replacement/sub and can also play on the wings, albeit cutting-in, hence not providing width. Fantastic squad player, even when we have all players fit and an ideal starting 11.

I really hope the three kids - Insua, Ngog and Kelly are future stars for LFC, theyve shown enough substance for me to believe, they truly will. I continue to have high future hopes from Pacheco and Nemeth. Lets hope Aquilani can bolster his fitness and provide long-term quality to our midfield and lets pray we can get another 3 seasons out of Gerrard.

No. 19 will surely come - maybe not this season, my expectations are tempered. But Rafa is surely my man for getting it.

Mr. Rafa Benitez, stubborn as you are, YNWA.

this older article and the bold part i agree fully, even if it´s older one.. Rafa did amazing job, coming from different league to PL trying to take us back on top, he signed more players for virtually nothing they are worth now and some of them are still in first team...

Among his best bargains were: Agger, Skrtel, Torres, Arbeloa, Luis Garcia, Alonso, Benayoun, Kuyt...just few that come to my mind. He did also mistakes with Keane, but i realy doubt that Keane was his signing 100% just becouse we played totaly different system under Rafa than 4-4-2, also Aquilani never get the chance to play first of all, since Rafa was sacked..Not to mention our whole reserves is Benitez work and Kenny often said we have to thank Rafa for our reserves now..

As the article said, i was also sure the 19.th would come under Rafa, he just didn´t get his job done.

i end up with picture of how our squad looked under Rafa..that´s not just names..but he had something going on, that was not finished:

liverpool-team.jpg

- this i write just to say something about our transfers, that we were in horrible situation under previous owners and under Roy it was destroyed completly. Now we have to focuss on Kenny and give him the job permanently, becouse the results so far under him are amazing with virtually majority of starters injured.

On a side note, why does it seem to be necassary to call Manchester United "manure"?
This is so cheap...it's as cheap as Ferguson himself.

What has struck me when seeing the video's about the Hillsborough birthday (sorry can't find a better word) is the dignified way Liverpool as a club and the fans treat this.

I stopped being a Man Utd fan after having visited Old Trafford and the club store and seeing the shameless exploitation of the air crash with the Busby babes...

Calling Manchester United "manure" is showing the same lack of class...that class is just what distinguishes Liverpool from Man United...

Before i hurt anybody's feelings: most Man Utd fans i know here do have class and fair play...and this is just a personal meaning and not worth much.

Re: Liverpool Thread(I Just Can't Get Enough!!)

You'd struggle to find many people who use that term, Gerd. Mainly children. In the same way that you find any team calling another team by a silly name, Liverpoo for example.

Cracking read by Tony Barrett.

Also Jack Robinson got into Garth Crooks' team of the week:

JACK ROBINSON

Full-back
Liverpool
Still more than four months shy of his 18th birthday, Liverpool's youngest ever player is rapidly making a name for himself. The youngster saw off Theo Walcott and Andrey Arshavin all in one afternoon. Not bad for an 17-year-old with limited experience. I'm going to keep my eye on this kid!

Did you know? Is the youngest player to have featured in the Premier League this season, beating Chelsea's Joshua McEachran by six months.

Re: Liverpool Thread(I Just Can't Get Enough!!)

There was a point right after he came on that Arsenal hoofed it for Theo to run after, and the lil full back stayed with him. That is astounding, because Theo is probably the fastest outright sprinter in the league. Really impressed.

It's just a joke mate, it's not a malicious thing, unlike United fans calling us Murderers. It's quite rare you see it anyway, it's only ever on the internet, nobody actually says it out loud.

Re: Liverpool Thread(I Just Can't Get Enough!!)

again we have to think Glen Johnson sallary is Robinson, Flanagan and Kellys together i guess...

just saying that if Flanagan and Robinson stay at the team, we won´t need Aurelio and Glen Johnson...that is so obvious..

anyways, Sterling looks like future star for us...amazing young player !!!

Re: Liverpool Thread(I Just Can't Get Enough!!)

And more than that. Johnson is probably on something like £70k I'd imagine, the younger players there are probably on £40k combined, if that.

Re: Liverpool Thread(I Just Can't Get Enough!!)

as i said, i like him as player but i can see us selling him..

not becouse he is bad, but if Kelly stayes on RB, with Flanagan and still Carra in the team..there is no space for Johnson.. We need to buy a LB, but if we have it, Johnson won´t be his or Kelly´s back up, Kelly won´t sit on the bench, he already proved he is better on that position than Johnson..we could easy use Robinson or Wilson as LB back ups. Then we need a new CB, if we buy one, and still have Carra, Wilson and possibly Kelly as back up, with Skrtel as starter or possibly Agger, depends if fit...i think there is no space for Glen i´m affraid..not to mention we have Kyrgiakos who signed and will most probably play another year + Ayala and Insua on loans...

Tbh, you always need two quality players per position, with them hopefully being able to play multiple positions. I wouldn't get rid of Johnson. There will be more then enough games for them to play anyway, and it's not like either of them have especially injury-free either.

And we don't know whether Kelly has what it takes, he's performed really well so far, but it's a different pressure when you are 1st choice and have other players trying to win back your spot.

Re: Liverpool Thread(I Just Can't Get Enough!!)

yes maybe that´s true, but we now have top young players in Flanagan and Kelly..compeeting with Johnson..

maybe he stayes this season, but if Kelly or Flanagan will continue like now, that would mean we sell him probably after the next season..

Totally agree. People should relax towards youngsters. Automatically, when a player appears through the academy people start making comparisons and already making them a star.
Relax, it is not the same being a second choice than a starter. I cant really understand how some people can already write off Johnson (an international player, who has a played a World Cup and was one of the best players of England).
Kelly should be played central and we should eradicate the real toxic contract in our team.

Re: Liverpool Thread(I Just Can't Get Enough!!)

Right, compare me a 26 years old full back (and one of the best in the world when fit) with a 29 years old finished player on a megacontract.

To clarify, if City win cup, Lpool will need Spurs to finish 4th for 6th place to get Europa spot. Hence how defeat v Spurs helps Lpool.

Re: Liverpool Thread(I Just Can't Get Enough!!)

I'm sorry but I watched that 'youth' game and you really can't draw anything from it. It'll make headlines because of the score, but I follow United's youth/ reserves closely and I'd never even heard of half hte players we fielded.

Our youth teams both put out 'first XIs' against each other just a couple weeks ago. Use that to judge them.

(However, 13 game scoring streak is absolutely ridiculous and note worthy. Didn't Agbonlahor score literally hundreds of goals at youth level?)

doesn`t b`ham get a place too? Imagine if Stokes won it ...the likes of Stokes n B`ham in Europa League. The FA n Uefa might be proud about it !!

Re: Liverpool Thread(I Just Can't Get Enough!!)

Fuck that.

We're 4 points behind Spurs, they've got 2 games on us but still have to play us as well as Arsenal, City and Chelsea (the Liverpool, City and Chelsea games are all away from home for them).

Liverpool's next two games are Birmigham and Newcastle at home, if we win those two and Spurs lose to Arsenal and Chelsea we'll be a point behind them come the 1st of May, making the Liverpool vs Tottenham game massive. I'd much much much rather that scenario than having to wait on the FA Cup final and other results and then hope City fuck things up in the league.

Re: Liverpool Thread(I Just Can't Get Enough!!)

According to THIS, PErotti is available this summer! Contrary to my previous statement, looks like I was wrong and Diego will be on the move.

Not entirely sure why Sevilla and him have decided to part ways other than the fact that he has to sit on the bench a lot of times because of Jesus Navas and Diego Capel and he's too good to be a rotation player and too expensive to keep as backup and someone they can make good $$$ off of and he needs to be playing as a 1st-teamer, something he can achieve at Liverpool and those other clubs.

This is the type of player the new owners and Comolli will go for. Young, fast, talented, two-footed and will grow in value and stature and not only help club but probably make profit even if sold later, I think he'd be a good buy. Let's see if he does come to EPL at all though and if so where? I think Pool would be best club for him.

Dalglish telling Wenger to piss off at the end. Priceless.

Yeah that was brilliant! :D
