Yeah, it was Kroenke that I was thinking of. Doesn't he need something stupid like 5 more shares and he has to make an official bid for the rest of the shares and take control of the whole club?

Saw an interview with Aquilani yesterday. He feels bad about leaving Pool in such a state and was hoping for a second chance. He claims that he recovered from his injury pretty quickly, but Benitez didn't want to take any chances even though players such as Gerrard, Johnson and Reini said they were amazed at what he can do footballwise. When Roy and Joe Cole came along Roy told him he wouldn't get much of playtime, so he packed his bag..
He has fond memories of Liverpool, the Kop and said something along the lines of: " I thought the epitome of club loyalty regarding fans and atmosphere was in Rome, but after the first home game at Anfield I knew that this was something else...."

Good lad, although I'm still suspicious of his mental state. Far too many times he complained about one "injury" or another, stomach bugs and such. Undoubtedly talented though and always enjoyed it when he did actually play, stood out with his technical ability.

I think he just wasn't happy...that can make a hell of a difference. He seems in the right state at Juve now, training hard, regaining fitness and smiling again. Let's not forget, he was forced to leave Roma.

Yes, but he has an NFL,NBA and MLS team which Arsenal has done a lot to help Colorado Rapids (training n organizing wise). He`s been a share holder for yrs before joining the Board.Kroenke only bought the shares not to give it to the Russian Red n White co. who Dein sold his shares to :( . IMO Kroekne is not label a dumb hick Yank looking for a thrill adventure . He help bring WC`94 to the states he knows how to run a sport business. He doesn`t want to break the Arsenal model either.

I dont think he was unhappy at Liverpool. He didnt want to leave Rome in the first place (like most of the people of that City, they never want to leave it), but he said a lot of times that he was looking foward to another season with Liverpool to prove to the fans and Rafa that he could do it.
I think that if Rafa was still here, he was going to play maybe the most important role of the team this year, the same role Sneijder plays at Inter. But I guess we´ll never know.

Considering Rafa rarely used his big money investment even when he was fit last season and that for the last few seasons Gerrard had cemented his place behind Torres, in the "same role that Sneijder plays at Inter", what makes you think that?

True, Rafa never used Aquilani and I doubt that he ever would have.

Another strange bit of business by Rafa. Good thing he's got Moratti and Branca controlling the cheque book at Inter. At least for the time being, until he inevitably falls out with them and resigns.

What makes me think that ? The fact that at the end of last season Aquilani played all our matches, and was constantly our best player. He was fit and he played, as simple as that.
He didnt play before that because he wasnt fit, he had still pain when he played (he said that en February), and sometimes he played but then the next match he was out because of a stomach bug (against Portsmouth for example).
Plus, Benitez said thousands of time how he was a buy more for this season than for last one.

Well then it was a bit rich of him to harp on about lack of funds when he'd splashed nearly £20m on a player he didnt even expect to use much. Especially when Alonso needed replacing.

I remember reading that he checked with three different doctors and they all said he was going to be fit in September top. Probably, he also didnt realise how important was Xabi Alonso for our team until he was gone and he also couldnt have prevented that Gerrard was going to have such a terrible season. After all, we played some matches in 2008/2009 season without Xabi Alonso and we played beatifuly. The matches against United in Old Trafford and Newcastle (also away) come to my mind.

You didn't play beautifully when you beat us at Old Trafford.

It was a beautiful result for you but the football played was hardly the stuff of legend. You're goals came from a long ball, a penalty and then a freekick and a 30 yard lob when we had 1 defender and 10 men.

We had more possesion, better passing stats, more shots, more corners, less fouls. Everything apart from goals basically :LOL:.

Anyway, to me that's not beautiful football, it's effective football.

Yeah, I think the Aston Villa and Real Madrid thrashings were better examples of the all too rare times you played "beautifully" under Rafa.

of getting 4 signings in January......I really fear for giving
Hodgson the chance of signing new players......
He says he was not given the chance to sign enough players.....
err...you signed 4 players already.....and none of them are what
we needed....inspite of it being painfully obvious that Torres
had no backup....or we had no wingers...
What chance is there he won't waste the money on 4 more players
we dont need......

I've read the Gaurdian Article.
It would be sad if a great club like Liverpool would be in danger.

On the other hand, i have the distinct feeling that the big English clubs (perhaps with the exception of Arsenal) are financially punching above their weight...Their "wealth" is artificial and is unfair competition towards most other European clubs and the rest of the English clubs (especially in the lower leagues).

Look at the salaries of the players, they are just crazy...at the beginning of the season i heard what Yaya Touré earns at Man City...i'm not jealous...but that is an absolutely crazy salary in any profession. But the players are not to blame...the clubs are.

I'm not sure tbh, you will have a few teams that are over extending themselves (like Portsmouth), you have 2 teams that have sugardaddies and because of that have huge expenses and then you have two very profitable clubs who are being screwed by the owners placing a huge amount of debt on them (Manu and Liverpool) and then you have a few financially sound clubs, Arsenal and Spurs especially but Villa is another who aren't going bust and are being run sensibly and I'm sure most of the lesser teams are being run soundly aswell, they can't afford not to.

It's the commercial rights and tv revenue that have made the english clubs so "rich" and not from huge unsustainable debts. You can say what you like about the English clubs, yet the "great" Barcelona are the highprofile club that actually had to take out a bankloan to pay the players wages this year! Whilst at the same time spendin 35mil? on Villa and going on about Fabregas...

Or Madrid who are sponsored by the banks and goverment! They have huge debts but the Madrid banks will never call the money in (like what's happening at Liverpool) and they can continue to spend ridiculously.

England just have a higher concentration of rich clubs through good business imo, Barca and Real have so much money because of unfair tv rights (don't they get like 60% of the annual tv income in la Liga?) and unfair financial advantages.

I can't wait for the financial rules to come in as I expect (if it is done fairly...) that clubs like Liverpool, Manu, Arsenal and Spurs will be some of the most financially strong clubs in Europe based on commercial income.

I mean funded by your own bloody government just takes the piss in comparison to the others.

But it's all due to the tv-money and the way CL money is divided (the clubs who get most tv money get most money of the Cl too, when Porto won it, there were more than 10 (and i think it was more than 16) who got more money at the end of the Cl).

Did not know that Spurs are financially sound, i always thought they overstretched in money spending.

You talk about Villa, but what will happen if Lerner has enough? And the fact that Villa can't get through the glass ceiling to enter CL and is financially sound says it all to me (but if you are right, SPurs are an exception...anyway this will be once oof since Man City are up there now).
