Liverpool Thread

Re: Liverpool Thread

Yeh i'm all for having a fan rep, what i'm not all for is SOS dictating how things should be done.

Sometimes they appear to have the clubs best interests at heart, other times they seem to be agenda driven idiots hellbent on getting what they want. They've spread an awful lot of lies about Hicks and Gillett and have sensationalised a lot of the problems we've had in order to garner more support, and for that reason i'm out. :SMUG:

This.Dont like the fact they think they represent all of us when they arent exactly all as evident in thier marches/protest.Wish they would just back off and not expect new custodians or whoever to "report" to them.Bunch of militants

Re: Liverpool Thread

Aquilani's not even playing in Italy though, he's made 4 appearances so far and done pretty much nothing (according to his stats: 2 starts, 2 sub appearances, 0 goals, 0 assists, 4 shots, 1 shot on target, 7 fouls) So it's not like we're missing out on much right now, he's not mentally strong enough and he proved that with the sheer amount of time he missed.

You made a snap judgement of Aquilani after just a few appearances for Liverpool and now you're doing the same to Joe Cole but in a negative way this time. Cole has been played in three separate positions so far with different players around him each time, how can he be expected to do anything in that situation? Give him a chance ffs

edit: talking to liverbird

Against Inter, Aquilani was the best player on the pitch and Del Neri's even considering changing the formation in order to start Aquilani every game....

Liverbird said:
If your manager tells you to play on a wing, you play on a wing, you dont go central every fucking play because then Meireles has no room and no teamate on the left.
Wait, are you talking about Cole or Gerrard?

Re: Liverpool Thread

Hi lads, not posted much in here lately as i would most prob end up ranting about the state of affairs at the club.

What i would like to say is there as been some pretty sweeping statements about rascism against americans..I would like to say and i think for the majority of the uk that allthough we may not agree with your government and its motives, we have absolutley nothing against its people. The villian in the piece here is Hicks! (stands down from soapbox) :)

#Liverpool fans worried about another American owner: The Boston #RedSox are arguably the best run organization in American sports.

Re: Liverpool Thread

Still cannot figure out why you guys ditched Aquilani, I really can't

Re: Liverpool Thread

Because according to everyone at the club he's not mentally strong enough, he's always injured or sick, i just think he wasn't cut out for the pace and strength of the Premier League. He'll do well in Italy where it's a much slower game.

Re: Liverpool Thread

The way the majority of Liverpool fans bang on about them, yeah actually.

(In reality no, but it is funny seeing so many 'Yanks out' banners and then you go ahead and get bought by more Americans)

What an immature reaction.

"The" Liverpool fan is is against Americans.
"The" Man United fan is a glory hunter and not a real fan.

Same sort of stereotyping.
You guys have "schadenfreude" becaus Liverpool is in a mess? Here's a message: Man Utd need Liverpool...football seems to thrive on these stupid rivalries. I can (barely) understand that you don't like Liverpool because you are a Man United fan. But now is not the right moment to bask in glory...

IMO United will sooner or later face similar problems.

Re: Liverpool Thread

Naah, I didnt make a snap judgment of Aquilani. Ive seen him play for a lot of seasons, not just last one. I like Serie A, and I have always watched it.
About Juventus, he isnt playing how Rafa played him. He is playing as a central midfielder, he should play in an advanced role to take the best out of him.
About Cole, Im judging his attitude and not the way he is playing. If your manager tells you to play on a wing, you play on a wing, you dont go central every fucking play because then Meireles has no room and no teamate on the left.

So, when exactly did you bug the Anfield changing rooms? How do you know Hodgson hasn't told Cole to cut inside when he gets the chance? Just because he's starting on the left doesn't mean he has to stay there, look at Gerrard for England for example, he starts from the left but has a free role in exactly the same way Cole has for us.

As for Aquilani, he was never strong enough, he looked good in a few games and anonymous in others and his amount of "illnesses" was ridiculous, it's no wonder he didn't get picked.

I understand where you're coming from, but unless you have a real connection to your club you can never understand a proper rivalry, and saying "football seems to thrive on these stupid rivalries" is a bit ignorant in my opinion. All sports have their big rivals, some more heated than others. It's the nature of competition and you're always going to want to beat the other local teams, especially if their success is similar to your own because you want to be the top team.

Re: Liverpool Thread

UJ, as a regular match going red, what's your thoughts on these new owners.I've read that the ticket prices at Red Sox increased 200% when they took over.

It's difficult to give any in-depth thoughts on them yet because i don't really know much about them. 90% of what i've heard from Red Sox fans is positive, although 200% seems ridiculously steep  can't see that happening here, the tickets are £39 now which is pretty expensive, for a long time they were around £28-32 and in the past 4 years they've gone up more and more, i'd imagine within 3 years they'll be £50 but i can't see them going much higher until we get the new stadium (or redeveloped Anfield).

I'm cautiously optimistic, that's probably the best way to put it right now.

Apparantly this is the agreement that G&H have with Broughton:

I also have a favourite club in Belgium. Their big rivals are Anderlecht. If my team wins against Anderlecht (once every five years) i'm over the moon.
If Anderlecht play in Europe, i always support them. If Anderlecht play good football i can enjoy that.

Can you enjoy good football by Man Utd?

In short: for me football itself (and the quality of the football) is more important than a single club. My favourite team in England is most definitely Spurs, i do like the way Arsenal play...i can really enjoy that...i can look forward to a match with Arsenal. Most English fans wil say that i'm not a real fan...

OptaJoe Opta Sports

21 - Roy Hodgson has won none of his last 21 Premier League away matches as a coach with Liverpool & Fulham. Agoraphobic.

Sounds accurate...for such a defensively minded coach....

makes Houllier's and Rafa's away tactics look very aggressive
in stark contrast.

I reckon the new owners who are into winning, will not let
Hodgson drag us down...they will probably give him some time
to turn things around, and if there is no marked improvement I am sure
they will replace him

Re: Liverpool Thread

3 months it said on the back of one of the newspapers, not sure which one and probably a load of rubbish anyway.

You're confusing rivalry with childishness i think. Most Man Utd fans can admit when Liverpool play well, same goes for Liverpool fans. There's obviously a load of people who can't admit anything positive about their rivals, let's call them "Evertonians".

Re: Liverpool Thread

I think it`s the wrong direction imo . Why don`t these American owners start w/ a Soccer Club in the states . The Arsenal has an American investor ,but he has an MLS club too. Even he doesn`t want to take over the Arsenal.

I vote No, help your countrymen 1st. Its like katrina no one helps their own , US looked like a 3rd world country for about week :(,but the US are the 1st to help others . MLS won`t ever reach a top status I know its the graveyard/retirement league ,but the PL is allowing their core to slip w/ all these foreign owners. When is enough! enough! Glazer won ,but MUTD always was in the right direction before they too over. I suppose I just rather see someone do it in a respectful manner not just throw money at it like some timeshare thrill. American sports has salary caps ,they haven`t even got their feet wet n know this Boston fans are deluded living in the shadows of caves.

Isn't Robert Kraft seriously interested in taking over Arsenal?

Re: Liverpool Thread

If we could find British people who were capable or willing to buy
Liverpool for that kind of money, then that would be the best bet....
there would be no reason for Americans or Russians or Arabs to come
and buy British clubs....

But noone is there...

Can't really complain....the Americans will always be in it for money...
what else do you expect from businessmen.....
But for us it's better than going into administration...and bankrupcy

Atleast the NESV seems more decent than G & H....and have a good track
record.....so it can't be that bad for liverpool...

Whatever happened to the wealthy rich Arab families who were interested
in Liverpool.......looks like the economy is pinching everywhere
except in a few places...
