Liverpool Thread

Re: Liverpool Thread

I was talking about starts, because I think that is unfair to judge a player when he makes a cameo of 10 minutos (like Aquilani did in almost every game he entered in the second half). He had 9 starts and, if I remember correctly according to the fans votes in LFC, he was MOTM in 5 matches.

As far as i remember it was 3 times. Burnley, Portsmouth and Atletico Madrid.

Re: Liverpool Thread

What is playmaker position ? You should know that he was never a playmaker for us, Xabi was.I think you confuse being an attacking midfielder with being a playmaker.
Pacheco is not a playmkaer, he is a second striker or left wing (this is how he plays with Spain I think).
About Lucas, it 's interesting how a lot of reds think that Lucas was an attacking midfielder and Benitez transformed him in a destroyer. This is total bullshit, he didnt even play once as an attacking midfielder when he was in Gremio. He was a box to box, type of player.
Maxi is a right wing, he has never played in the hole.

ok so without Aquilani we dont have any creative or quality playmaker in our team... we are doomed.

looks to me they are talking about Steven Gerrard..dont know about you mate...

Re: Liverpool Thread

Wasnt he also the MOTM against Fulham (home) and Hull City (away) ?

not that i know of, and even if he was it means nothing because the team were fucking shite in those games anyway, man of the match in a game like that usually means the player who was least shit.

edit: just checked and yes he was "voted" man of the match in those two games, but by a couple of hundred internet voters (out of several thousand who visit the site and watched the match), those votes are pretty much pointless.

edit again: Gerrard was voted MOTM against Burnley, not Aquilani.

No, Joe Cole can provide creativity, but with him out injured we are going to rely exclusively in Torres.

no we dont..i still think Steven Gerrard, our GK, our CB young players...our Wingers, hopefully Kuyt as backbone of the team will make us win matches..

without torres that is..

still you seem to forget we have Jovanovic, who is CF or WF, Kuyt - no matter if he played as rw, he is CF pure...Ngog seems to be better and better, Babel also tries...and we hear rumours about new singnings..so i think we should judge after we play some games..

about the AM - Gerrard thing..i think more have the same idea as me..check this out:

Let 's see. An attacking midfielder, a trequartista and an advanced playmaker play in the same position in the pitch. But there are different types of players and they do different things.Gerrard or Lampard are attacking midfielders, Riquelme or Totti are the best example of a trequartista and Aquilani or Joe Cole (at West Ham, 6 years ago) are advanced playmakers. Come on, it's not that hard.

Dude, you realize that it is going to be the same squad that last season finished 7th ?.Joe Cole instead of Aquilani. Jovanovic instead of Riera, some more youngsters (Wilson and Shelvey) and one more DM (Poulsen).
Let me ask you something. Why are you confident that Gerrard will be able to bring us the magic when Joe Cole is out, when he was shit last season when a playmaker wasnt in the team ?

No, I perfectly remember those two games and he was by far our best player. Against Fulham he was the only player that you could see was going foward and wanted to win the game. He had a lot of shots, and he did his pass and move game.
I agree they are pointless, but in which other way can we determine the MOTM ?

And in the same way, that team which finished 7th last season was pretty much the same one which almost won the league the year before minus Alonso and Arbeloa.

Why do you seriously think Liverpool won't cope without Aquilani - a player who still has everything to prove?

Mate every season is start from Zero...the argument is dull, we had injurys (including Aquilani) last season... we had difficult time with them...the world cup was nearing and all international players were thinking not to get injured either..

This season is brand new...we bought some good players,Pacheco seems staying and he is quality..+ more matured - the same with Ngog i think..

The transfer window still is open...

seriously..new players - new coach means our team is other and that this transfer dont make us play bad..just becouse we sold or loaned one player that barely played a part for us...or were you thinking before you knew, that Aquilani would make us champions? i mean..if Rafa had problem playing him, and Roy as well..might be something wrong with him we realy dont have a clue about...what if he has psychical issues, if he is homesick, not belivnig he can do it, or simply affraid of being hurt by england style....

we have finished fourth year before we won CL in Istanbul with the same squad basicly...

We can be champions if all players we have now will be healthy...

With your own mind? Rather than believing what 300 nerds voted for. 90% of the time Torres and Gerrard get the vote regardless of what they do, the last few weeks of last season Aquilani was getting most votes because of a "protest" put together on some forums - they thought that if he was MOTM every week he'd get played every week. If you don't believe me check the Wigan vote (where we lost 1-0 at the DW Stadium), Aquilani played 9 minutes and barely touched the ball yet was 3rd in the voting for MOTM

Against Fulham he had a couple of chances and hit the bar, but against Hull he was rank average like the rest of the team.

Personally, I think that Aquilani has nothing to prove. I dont understand how some fans thinks that he started playing yesterday. You should know that he played a lot of matches in Roma.He also played for his country.
You can say me, ok, but that was in the Serie A. But what about the Premier ? When he played he made us look a different team. I mean, didnt you see a change from the crappy football we played last season with the football we played at the end of the season when he started to play regularly ? The only match he and Torres play together (Alberto as an advanced playmaker and Torres as a striker) we won 4-1.

How he played at Roma has absolutely nothing to do with how he played at Liverpool, it's an entirely different league and a totally different style of play. He still has everything to prove in the Premier League - the best league in the world - and nobody can honestly say otherwise. Any player who has only started 9 games has it all to prove, and anyone judging him based on such a small amount of games must either be a genius or a bit simple, and i don't think you're a genius mate.

Aquilani as LFC player is past..at least i dont see him back for us personaly..

It was decision of our coach to loan him...maybe he come back better player...maybe we have already good player coming in the team..we dont know...

At least in that I agree. No way he is coming back, because he is going to be so good for Juventus that they are going to think that buying him for 15-17M is a bargain.

Re: Liverpool Thread

Its a shame really as he's a great talent but with his injury record it really was never going to end well.

Re: Liverpool Thread

No, Im a fan of football and I ve seen him play since his firsts years in Rome. I have watched him play a lot more than you and I know the kind of player we have just showed the door to.

We're all football fans in the end, but most are willing to be open minded a bit more than you, you seem to blindly support Aquilani and completely ignore anything negative about him.

Re: Liverpool Thread

I'm getting a distinct Litmanen vibe on Aquilani... He's let go without a proper chance to prove himself... something he said he really wanted to do... meanwhile, looks like we are holding on to Mascherano, who has been crying about wanting to leave for a good while now. I'm going to give Hodgson the benifit of the doubt for now, but I'm not pleased.

the difference is that Litmanen was in his 30s, Aquilani's still got ages to prove himself, and should he have a good full season at Juve i'd imagine he'll be given the chance.

You are right. If he has a good full season at Juve they will give him the chance .. in Juventus. He ´ll only come back if he is injured again or doesnt make an impact.

Re: Liverpool Thread

Yep, I'm sure if he has a good season then Juve will pay the £14/15m release clause, which, imo, would be a great deal for them.

Is the release clause true ? Because I didnt read it in any english newspaper. I hope not, but I guess that Juventus would be stupid to guarantee Aquilani first football team if he is going to leave next season.

Re: Liverpool Thread

On Gazzetta and Sportmediaset set they all say that the fixed fee is at around 16 million euros. It would make sense, like you said, or else Juve wouldn't really bother settling him in if he's just going to leave! So it seems like a win-win situation (as ben said in another thread) for Juve!
