They have 4 strikers, we have 2. He would get more games and he didn't want to leave because of the club, he just wanted more games.

I saw a stat earlier that said last season, Crouch only played in one more game for Spurs than he did in his season with us and complained about wanting more games.

but he'd still end up on the bench here. I cant see him getting in ahead of Cole/Aquilani and definitely not ahead of Torres. He'd be here in case of injuries, which is his role at Tottenham.

Plus we've got more than 2 strikers

Torres
N'Gog
Kuyt
Babel
Jovanovic

all strikers, but the last three are versatile enough to play on the wings.

One off games...

I wasn't bashing him, was sad to see him go and he did well in his time, but he was too defensive minded for me. I just want to see good attractive attacking football.

But you said he'd never play like that against a small team, so i proved that he did actually play like that a lot, and then you make a daft argument tht they were "one off games", it seems to me that you've forgotten everything except for last season. The season before last we scored more league goals than anyone and went on a run of scoring 4 or more in quite a few games. In fact within two months we had these results:

LFC 2-0 Sunderland
LFC 4-0 Real Madrid
Man Utd 1-4 LFC
Aston Villa 0-5 LFC
LFC 4-0 Blackburn
Chelsea 4-4 LFC
LFC 4-4 Arsenal
Hull 1-3 LFC
LFC 3-0 Newcastle
West Ham 0-3 LFC
West Brom 0-2 LFC
LFC 3-1 Tottenham

Now, they were all between March and May 2009, so therefore proof that the attacking play wasn't just in one off games.

Good list UJSupanova - add to that (from the top of my head): Sunderland, Portsmouth and Benfica at Anfield from last season where we played some great stuff too. The Sunderland match could have been 10 - *even* Steve Bruce complimented us on that one.

That's still a small comparison for a 5 year stint. I didn't doubt that we had scored goals at times, I said we wouldn't have been so attack minded against the smaller clubs. It's great to see a player like Joe Cole finally at the club bringing that something different behind the strikers.

I've been thinking about what Gerrard has said about Joe Cole being better than Messi.
I wonder if that wasn't meant to be some sort of message for Capello.
If i remember well the players at the WC wanted Cole to play more than he actually did.
So maybe it wasn't that stupid and innocent what Gerrard said.

I agree with Kev that we've shown a lack of attacking mentality an awful lot against smaller teams whereas the likes of Man Utd and Chelsea would've just went all-out for that winning goal and we've been more concerned with holding for the draw.

In saying that though, players like Cole wont make any difference if they're not allowed to play to their strengths and it's too early to say how attacking we'll be against Premier League opponents under Roy.

agger also almost scored a goal for Denmark, and was captain of Denmark tongiht..

Skrtel as usualy, very solid in back against Croatia..

His purchase should also free up Lucas to play his natural game, like he was for Brazil a couple of days ago.
