So Hodgson is the "Yes Man" that the owners wanted all along, rather than that nuisance Rafa who stopped them selling players when they wanted to.

Also hearing that Insua was actually in the dressing room, and the starting eleven for the game tonight, before Roy was told that Insua had been arranged to be sold.

How can a manager work like that? Did Roy actually take on the job knowing that Purslow will be doing this? Or did they promise that he's in charge of it all, then go and break a promise (again)?

that `s disturbing news dagsJT is this a hunch ... so the club is trimming fat (wages) to be sold in the near future? mid table? I would at least wait until the 1st 10 games.

Like you say, I imagine the "management" are hoping players want to leave.

Broughton said at the Hodgson press conference that ALL money from player sales will go to Roy to bring players in, so that's £5m for Roy to spend on top of any budget we had already (assuming we had one). Also not sure if Benayoun's money is available but I've heard that money was already sanctioned to pay off Rafa.

Lucas has said he wants to stay, but I can see him being sold actually. If Palermo raise their offer, I reckon he'll be forced to go really.

Now that Palermo had sold Cavani to Napoli, expect that bid to be increased and Lucas to be gone by midweek.

I guess you were right Dags, I thought that Purslow was just the yanks puppet, but look what Hodgson just said about Joe Cole

I read back a while that Eduardo Macia had fallen out with Rafa because he turned into a Purslow allied. I wouldnt be surprised if we bring Remy, a player that our coach doesnt know, but apparently, Purslow knows more about football than him.
If these rumours are true and Purlow and Macia are going to structure our team, no matter what Hodgson say, then I've lost all there respect I had in Macia. He is the guy that encourage Rafa to take Raul to Real Madrid 15 years ago. He has been working with Benitez everywhere and he was the brain behind all Rafa 's buys.

The club's just a complete mess. Exactly what IS Roy's role? Is he even suggesting transfer targets or are they just going off what Macia says?

Apparantly Macia has been tracking Remy for FIVE years, so why haven't we signed him before now? Because Rafa didn't want him. So they get Rafa out, then put an offer in for Remy and part of Roy's contract is that he has to accept any transfers that happen.

Really, the manager should be the most important person at a club. Isn't that what Brian Clough said himself? The chairman is just there to give the manager the money when he asks for it. So how does Purslow, a managing director (who was originally hired as a chief executive) have more power than anyone else at the club?

Speaking of Clough, everyone should watch The Damned United. Really good film, I think it's on BBC tomorrow night.

That's how it is in this country, but almost everywhere else the 'manager' is the guy who picks the team and tactics and motivates and trains the players and someone else takes care of the player recruitment.

For perspective, Rafa won't have a great deal of say who comes to Inter now compared to what he had before. If Macia has gone from being the head scout to fully taking care of that side of things then I can't see it being a huge shift?

Depending on which are Macia 's motivations. Macia knows a lot about football, but I dont know what are Purlsow plans for us.

This is Roys last stab at a Big club with History and great fan base....hes not going inter milan again.

He knew what was going to happen, so he is a yes man. But I think he might have under estimated how ruthless Purslow can be....anyway he'll have to work with what hes got I think and we will only know what that will be come the end of the transfer window

Hodgson is not a "Yes" man..... the man is not a puppet.
In fact I have more respect for him....he does not meddle in the
financial matters of the club...
As he said earlier...he is a coach...his job is to coach the players.

Did'nt Benitez also say at Inter that it is Branca who will run the
transfers...and he will focus on coaching...
At Inter...it is always Branca and Moratti who talk transfers...
not Rafa...

Purslow is not some on some clandestine mission to ruin the club.
LFC are in debt, they need to be run smartly.....and that means not giving
full control to a Coach who obviously is not a financial expert.
Rafa wanted full control....and look what he did...spending 38mill
on Acquilani and Johnson.......it is no surprise Rafa is not at LFC
any more.

I am sure Hodgson will have inputs on who to sign....but at the end
of the day Purslow is the Chief Executive....a member of the Board
who has more power to do what is right for LFC financially.

I don't think Hodgson does the negotiations of contracts or transfer fees..
rightly so...he leaves all that to Purslow and others.

The future is bright....it is not all gloom and doom as the media
would like you to believe....

Liverpool Football Club is bigger than any single man....
and this club will be back much stronger....
the people who slate Hodgson...those who leave Liverpool prematurely
will regret this....watch out.

I am excited and looking forward to it.

Purslow and Broughton are running our club into the fucking ground, and nothing anyone says will change that fact.

Purslow is a lying bastard, he's proven it on many occasions, Broughton is the same.

Right now, the future is not bright.

We've just sold our only left back - a 21 year old Argentina international - for less than £5m. We're about to be raped for Mascherano and there's still doubts over Gerrard and Torres. There's no signs of a new owner, no signs of any investment, no new stadium and absolutely no signs of us signing anyone because as soon as we're linked with someone Hodgson comes out and says he's never heard of it.

Kyrgiakos is being made available for €3m as he's not in Roy's plans.

At this rate, we wont have any defenders at the start of the season.

By the looks of it, Liverpool are slowly becoming a mid-table club. I'm a United fan yes, but it's quite sad witnessing what's happening to Liverpool. Actually wouldn't want it happening to any club. Hope it's only a temporary thing until the ship is steady again.

We're probably gonna have to get used to some really bad periods (I hope I’m wrong though!). But we had a lot of good times in the past...even though no manager has won the league since Kenny they have all got at least 1 piece of silverware to their name.

I like Hodgson but I really cant see him getting us into Title contention, Champs League or even a fuckin Carling Cup Final!

Kyrgiakos did well last season. Insua didn't have the best of seasons but he has potential, can't believe were just pissing away our whole team....

Official Premier League site places Baines as the highest with 9 assists.

In fact, there isn't even another full back in the top 30. Evra, Bale, Ivanovic and even Tyrone Mears had more assists than him.

Maybe Hodgson is exactly who you need atm. Year after year you expected to win things, but now you're left with someone who you think won't achieve. Maybe this'll give him the thing he needs, which is pressure off his shoulders and it might just work for you after all.

This is all speculation obviously. Can't wait for the season to start.

It's a bad thing for our competitiveness, but its good for our finances. Tighter financial regulation in Serie A has forced teams to move from the red to the white, which is why teams like Udinese, Palermo and Sampdoria are becoming so competitive. Milan has been gunning for free transfers and eliminating deadweight and renegotiating contracts. Not too different from Liverpool, but your debt seems far worse.

Plus Ashley Cole scored 4 and had only one less assist than Insua having played 600 minutes less. Glen Johnson was more productive too.

Ah, i've just read it again (it's on wikipedia btw - obviously a trusted source) and it says that by February 2009 he was on 6 assists which was the highest of any fullback, but i think they've included his shot which Kevin Davies scored an own goal from as an assist.


Anyway, take this for what you will because i'm not taking it as fact yet but a mate of mine who works for one of the local papers just phoned to say Joe Cole is flying out to Switzerland tonight to join up with the Liverpool team.
I would love it to be true, but i'm not holding my breath. Although my mate has nothing to gain from it, he's adamant that it's true.

I'm more confident he's signing for us than he isn't. I hear Spurs would only allow £80k wages and Redknapp has been on the charm offensive knowing that isn't enough and hoping to persuade Cole to go to them, whereas we've offered £90k per week.
