Re: Liverpool Thread
Your back four aren't good enough too.
Oh damn! So THAT'S the problem! And here's me looking at the stats which show us to one of the teams to concede the least amount of goals since Benitez arrived and being known for having one of the tighest defences in the league. Reina getting the golden glove obviously came from all those shots where the strikers got passed our rubbish defence as well then.
You need more players that are from the same level as Benayoun, Masscherano, Gerrard (Aquilani?) and the only real world class player you have which is obviously Torres.
Reina isn't world class? Mascherano isn't? Agger was wanted by AC Milan last summer so he's not too bad a player either. Johnson is a half decent player. Gerrard is regarded by many to be up there as world class as well.
Benitez sometimes makes strange decisions but i thibnk with the players he has, that he still does a splendid job. The only negative point is that he has bought too much players who turn out to be not good enough: Voronin (instead of Bellamy, look at Bellamy now...he's splendid at Man City), Skrtel, Riera, and i amfraid also Jovanovic. Jovanovic is a very good player for teams like Wigan, Stoke, Blackburn...
Liverpool fans think highly of Skrtel.
Bellamy? What about Forlan and Veron?
I take it Ferguson doesn't sign players like Taibi and Djemba Djemba? Wenger doesn't sign players like Stepanovs and Cygan?
Jovanovic? Give us some money so we can buy better players then. As it is, we have zero money and are having to sign players on free transfers.
Some of your arguements make absoloutely no sense at all, Gerd.
Reading and listening to media myself as well, they make another point. Wenger hasn't won anything with Arsenal for years, why does he get away with critisism? Because he's building a team? He's been building that team for years, and not much has progressed really. They still play really nice football and are a joy to watch but don't have what it takes to finish cups/leagues for the most part.
Liverpool have won trophies, have been to more finals, recently. But it's fine for Wenger for some reason? What makes it more interesting is that Arsenal have always had the money to buy players as well, so surely they should take more critisism for failing to spend that money to make that final push? We haven't had as much money and the money we've made has mostly came from selling players, resulting in the squad being disrupted.
Look at the likes of United and Chelsea, they don't make mass overhauls of their squad. Tik pointed to it earlier, they've been able to take a good team and been able to buy one or two good players to improve that squad each season while only selling on the players who weren't good enough. We haven't been able to do that, we've had to sell players to try and bring in better ones, we've had no established squad for a long time now. The reason David Moores left as chairman was because he could see Liverpool were falling behind in finances and he couldn't afford to give us that extra money each season that the likes of United and Chelsea were getting without selling players. So he sold the club. To the Americans. And we know how that's turned out.
