Liverpool Thread

Re: Liverpool Thread

Last I heard was Bruce said he's not going anywhere, The loan maybe with someone from your lot going the other way in a loan deal also.

Re: Liverpool Thread

The problem with Jones is he's so laidback it makes him inconsistent. One minute he looks really dangerous, then he goes through a spell like he is now where he's hardly scored or played well. If he's been brought in as temporary cover for Torres and then as a possible partner then I suppose he'd do well with the motivation of playing for a bigger club but you never know how it will turn out.

There must be some issue at Sunderland if Bruce is willing to let him leave despite singing his praises last week (unless that was to increase his market value).

He is a good striker and with his size and strength can be a real handful on his day but I'd still take Crouch over him, his goal record speaks for itself.

Re: Liverpool Thread

He's alright, will probably start for Serbia in the World Cup, Would be a squad signing though.

Re: Liverpool Thread

Great result and a great performance, considering the injuries and form.
Fianlly they actually looked like they wanted to fight for the team and for a win. Is it a coincedence that the two best performance's from the past 2 months have come with both Torres and Gerrard out?!
I don't think it's even a negative to them either, it looks like the team has realised that they can't just hit it quickly forward and hope that the two can conjur something up, so instead they now look to pass it between themselves and create something like that. Happend quite a few times last night, although often Dirk would go into the old quickpassmode and lose possesion. But atleast they now passed the ball and actually looked for each other instead of just hitting it forward.

And what about Aquilani?! Showed great skill, movement and passing last night. Pretty much did everything Ben was talking about, including a couple of hairy moments in his own half :D. He might still be a bit short of match sharpness / getting used to the speed of the league, but he showed where his position is and how to work the ball with quite a few great firsttouch passes that with a couple of faster players, (Torres, Ngog), could have created a couple more goals.
If Aquilani can keep it up and improve Gerrard will need to work his arse off the next couple of months to get back in the team in his position. I would even move Gerrard out to the right instead.

And Reira showed his quality, read somewhere that Liverpool lack enough players that just keep the ball and keep possesion and that Reira was one of them. Good example last night, can't remember many, if any moments where he lost possesion due to rushing the ball. If there was nothing on he kept possesion, turned back and passed it to Lucas, Insue to keep the ball rolling in the team. He may not be a player that will beat a couple of defenders and score regulary but he definitly adds balance and composure.

That's exactly the post I'd have wrote. I said to MJP that I think we play better when Gerrard and Torres don't feature as the team seem to realise they actually have to do something themselves instead of going through G&T so much.

Good, grafting, hard working performance last night. Kyrgiakos, Mascherano, Riera and Aquilani stood out with Aquilani my MOTM. You can see he's still adapting but some of his creativity and passes were quality and he's going to be awesome once he's settled.

On the other hand, Lucas was SO wasteful and misplaced far too many passes. Especially considering he's been in such good form lately. Kuyt was annoying as well, missing from a couple of yards out and generally not being as deadly in front of goal as he should've been.

Sky picked up on the chance where Degen passed to Kuyt, saying he should've shot. I disagree. You have a right back who had a difficult angle and he cut it back to a striker in a good position to score. Degen did the right thing in my opinion, and had a decent game really. His form has improved and he looks like he might actually be able to play some football now. I'd still choose Darby ahead of Degen though.

I'm happy with our performance last night, and we looked far more commited and aggressive.

Re: Liverpool Thread

Darby's no winger, Degen's a partial winger, did pretty well with his pace. You see what a creative midfielder can do to Liverpool, it's just hard to see what Lucas, Masch, Kuyt (in Winger Mode), Carra and Insua can do to improvise on offence, it's just not their game.

I thought Riera's very much missed this season. He's probably our best winger next to Gerrard. :P

EDIT:
One more thing, I wonder why didn't Rafa bring in Kuyt as the lone striker more often? He fared much much better being the lone striking option then poor Ngog (experience and mental power counts I guess).

Re: Liverpool Thread

Out of curiosity do you reckon if a bid of around 40M came for Gerrard would Rafa accept? Would you want them to accept that amount?

Re: Liverpool Thread

Snap their fucking arm off more like. You could buy at least one quality player with that (probably from Valencia's golden 3) and improve the balance of your team. No more sulking Steven too.

Re: Liverpool Thread

I would now though, he clearly doesn't wanna be there, might as well cash in because 40 million for a guy that age (who is probably only going to get worse now) is a miracle.

Re: Liverpool Thread

Yes, but its Gerrard. We are talking about one of the best players of the history of Liverpool. I wouldnt sell Gerrard for any money.

Nobody is bigger then the club, and with his attitude this season it would be the perfect time aswell. Enough fans would accept it.

And I don't think he will age well either, his game is all about speed and power, he has shown he doesn't have the disapline to be a CM with far too many hollywood balls so I don't think that would be a good role to do with his age getting on.

Re: Liverpool Thread

he is still as good as most. he has a good touch, pass and vision to play without his power and pace imo. he could adapt

but i would take 30 mill for him now

Re: Liverpool Thread

Aquilani is the bizniz. You haven't seen the best of him yet, I think he'll come good by the end of the season.

Re: Liverpool Thread

Interesting response and I agree, I can see offers of around that mark coming for Gerrard in the summer.

What was his attitude this season ? He missed lot of matches due to injuries and that had a great impact on his level. He was also part of a team that didnt do anything to make things easier for him and that just trew the balls to him and Torres and see what they can do.

It's been poor, he's been narky, having a go at the younger players and hasn't put the effort in. Seems like he's been in a sulk for most of the season because Xabi's gone. Oh and he's been playing for fouls aswell when he should just get on with the game.

As for Hicks,

Don't expect to see anything from the sale.
