Liverpool Thread

Re: Liverpool Thread

A LOT of talk currently that Rafa's advisors are in talks with Juve and it's a matter of hours, maybe days before something happens. All over Sky Sport Italia.

According to Sky Sport Italia, a meeting has taken place between Juventus and the legal team of Liverpool manager Rafa Benitez in Milan, with the Bianconeri pushing for a deal that will see the Spaniard take over in Turin immediately.

Reports have been rife in the press all week that tonight’s Coppa Italia game against Inter will be the last on the bench for coach Ciro Ferrara, who will then move upstairs into a director role.

A whole host of names have been linked as Ferrara’s successor, including Giovanni Trapattoni, Guus Hiddink, Alberto Zaccheroni and Claudio Gentile. The latter duo were believed to be the favourites, with speculation that one would take over on a short term contract until the end of the season when a big name would be appointed on a permanent basis.

One of these big names was Rafa Benitez, who had emerged over the last few days as the favourite for the permanent position.

However, Sky Sport Italia are now claiming that a meeting has taken place in Milan between Juventus and the Benitez legal team, with the Old Lady hoping to entice the Spaniard to Turin immediately. (Goal.com)

Re: Liverpool Thread

Ofcourse they'll get the green light, :(( Seems like a great situation for Liverpool.

Don't have to pay Rafa his compensation, He gets to say "I left for another top job" and Liverpool get someone else in.

Hopefully Nothing happens and we have KRAP FOR LIFE!

Re: Liverpool Thread

Seems like liverpool might be getting like Arsenal was in the last couple of seasons with Henry.

Everything had to be played through Henry and it was stifling the other players.

As soon as Henry left, our team started to play like a team again.

Sometimes no matter who the player is and how much of a legend they are, they need to go. The team needs to evolve and progress without them.
Agree 100%. It is a bit like the situation with Michael Owen during his last years at LFC.

Re: Liverpool Thread

Aquilani was inmense in Kuyt goal. He read the play and asked the ball to Insua (excellent pass by the way) and the pass off Alberto to Kuyt really good. Aquilani wasnt having a good match, lot of misplaced passes but he is like this, he can change the match in one play.

Re: Liverpool Thread

Much better performance overall, still need to work on some things. Ngog was pretty poor today and I hoped Babel would've been brought on sooner. Aquilani played some quality touches but also misplaced quite a bit. Incidently, how does Aquilani not get to play against some teams because they're too physical .... but he gets picked against Bolton of all teams?!

Re: Liverpool Thread

Kyrgiakos is showing that bit of steel, nous and resilience that is sometimes missing in Agger and Skrtel's play. More experience basically. Aquilani was hot and cold - but showing progress. Ngog - he needs to be less nice because he has everything else. Just sometimes he is afraid to get in where it hurts at the business end.

Re: Liverpool Thread

I can't understand why we'd sell Buchtmann for £100k, are times REALLY that bad?!

Re: Liverpool Thread

BBC Football said we did yesterday in the live text but it's not showing in their confirmed transfers. Odd.

Re: Liverpool Thread

Err it says this on Wiki:

A report later in the day from Laikos FM in Greece suggested Liverpool F.C. were working hard to complete the transfer before the English transfer window deadline. However, a price was never agreed in time and the deal subsequently fell through.

Re: Liverpool Thread

Can't say I'm excited by it tbh, a 28 y.o. playing in Belgium?! Voronin 2.0 is the expectation for me. Especially when it said he can play as a leftsided attacker and AM aswell as a striker. So a Kuyt/Voronin combo. :D

Re: Liverpool Thread

I see him every week here in Belgium.
He's certainly not better than Benayoun and Riera.
He deserves better than Belgium football, but IMO he will not have any added value for Liverpool. BUT, i had my doubts about Vermaelen and Fellaini too...so perhaps i'm not the best placed to judge players' potential.

Re: Liverpool Thread

tiktiktik...the fact that he's coming from a Belgium does not want to say automatically that he cannot be a good player...
His age: he's had some severe injuries in the past...(which is maybe another problem for Liverpool).
Liverpool bought the wrong Standard player, they should buy Defour or (even better) Mbokani. Mbokani would be the ideal partner for Torres upfront. He's a very big talent (but he's a bit loco).

Re: Liverpool Thread

@ Gerd, yeah didn't mean it that nothing good comes out of belgium, but a 28 y.o. isn't going to improve and if he is now a competant player in Belgium it's highly unlikely he will offer much in the prem. WOuld rather have the younger players like Defour, they can grow and improve. Same as Fellani.

Tbh I'm a bit irritated by this signing. Will he really offer anything more then the youth players?! It has no future worth playing him as he is in his peak atm anyway so you might get 2 decent seasons out of him, meaning 10 to 20 matches while all the youth strikers get more and more frustrated. You can see how much Ngog is improving by playing regulary at the highest level, a couple more years and he could be one of the main strikers at the club.

Re: Liverpool Thread

I think Benitez should be replaced so we can get rid of this 4-5-1 system.....
We should play 2 strikers up front....Torres and Ngog/Kuyt/Babel....
Gerrard is not the same player who can produce goals
from his AMF position just behind Torres...

If he stays no decent striker will ever want to play 2nd
fiddle to Torres....
Even this guy Jovanovic had reservations about joining...
but who else was after him ?

Time for a change....but who can we get to take over?
