Liverpool Thread

Re: Liverpool Thread

Here's a thought Abhi, Say Rafa decided he was going to splash all his money on 1 player this summer, Say Ribery, would you be happy with that or would you prefer to tone that down and go for 2-3 below that class.

Difficult to say really, Don't know if Ribery would be strong enough for the prem. Reading the above 10mil for Johnson (a bit much imo), 10mil for Barry and 20 for Silva would be good business imo. Thats offcourse under the assumption that Alonso hasnt been sold to fund them.

Re: Liverpool Thread

We'd still be short of a top-quality striker if Torres took a knock again though.

Re: Liverpool Thread

I'm not sure you can get a top quality one to sit on the bench when Torres is fit though.

Re: Liverpool Thread

Doesn't Ballague always get his transfers rumours wrong? I remember hearing that somewhere, I may be wrong.

Anyway I think Silva would be a good signing, he's quite versatile upfront so he could play in place of Riera, Gerrard or at a push Torres if need be and would add that extra bit of flair and quality upfront you need.

Johnson would be a good signing too, he came through the excellent West Ham youth system and has looked good at Portsmouth for the last few seasons. I like Arbeloa though, I think he's quite a useful player.

BTW, was it Parry who signed Josemi and Mark Gonzalez?

Re: Liverpool Thread

Parry has been doing the signings since 1998 :(

Re: Liverpool Thread

I don't think Benitez will change our current system/formation and I don't think a top striker would want to sit on the bench either. The money would be better spent getting a really good attacking midfielder and having either Babel/Kuyt/Ngog play the lone front man as we would then still have two WC players (Gerrard and the new lad) to win the match.

Re: Liverpool Thread

You should get Trezeguet. Perfect option. Not uber expensive, happy to sit on a bench and on his day supremely talented. If Rafa can motivate him.

You'd do really well to get Johnson, Barry, Silva and a striker in over the summer. That's a chelsea-esque amount of business imo. I guess it dependson who leaves, but still. Do you not think you'll need another CB with Hyypia retiring?

Re: Liverpool Thread

Like I said earlier, if we do sign a CB then it'll be an experienced veteran happy to sit on the bench. We've already got Carragher, Skrtel and Agger as our CB's.

Re: Liverpool Thread

I'd hope we don't waste money on another CB. We've got loads of talent in the reserves. Plus, if it's an emergency, Arby can play there, so can Johnson and Barry (and very well if I remember), if we sign those two.

Re: Liverpool Thread

Anyways, let's just hope Rafa gets it right this summer. We've come leaps and bounds this season, and we need to keep the momentum up. For all the defending I do for Rafa, he fucked up big time last summer. Hope that doesn't happen again.

Anyways, I think we'll have a bit more than the 20M we usually get, because we almost canceled out on the Keane money by selling him again. Our net spend last year was 5M max.

Re: Liverpool Thread

I wouldn't trust Guillem Balague, Obviously whenever its a Liverpool matter it might be different since he's good friends with Rafa (might just be another reason why he's persistant on Ronaldo to Real)

Also lads you can't blame Parry for all your signings, you do realise it doesn't work like that. Parry isn't a FM type transfer nut. Rafa would make a list of players ones he would prefer etc and then Parry would be left to sign them. All your bad signings Rafa wanted but they might not have been his 1st or 2nd choice.

I think Silva would be a good shout, not sure how I rate him, hugely talented but kind of does nothing at times, I think Mata will be the better player IMO.

Re: Liverpool Thread

What we blame Parry for is paying way over the odds for players, but then not paying enough for players who were being sold for an acceptable amount.

Every manager signs bad players, Gonzalez is a good player but didn't fit into English football and the same can be said about Pongolle as he's turned into a decent striker now. Forlan likewise.

Re: Liverpool Thread

So, Lavezzi it is. 22M offer rejected?

At least gives us an idea what type of players we're looking at.

Re: Liverpool Thread

Link? I don't know much about this guy, heard his name about a little bit.

Re: Liverpool Thread

He's exceptionally talented mate. Think of him as a Messi-lite on the ball.

Links are all over Liverpool websites.

Re: Liverpool Thread

here in brazil theres some escpecualtion liverpool is after cruzeiro's kleber 10M euro....
great player imo, would do great in EPL since he has amazing heart(aways fighting for the ball, never gives up) very diferently from the usuall brazilian players like robinho.

he is called "gadiator" here:
YouTube - Kléber Gladiador Celeste k30

i just hope this deal doesnt go through since ive just lost ramires to benfica.

Re: Liverpool Thread

Kleber looks a good player, very composed in front of goal.

yeh he really is...
but what keeps amzing me is his determintion...the guy is like "turned on" the hole 90 mim...aways fighting with defenders for any inch on the pitch...
his only problem is his temper..he has been sent off a lot of times alareayd in his career, these last 3 months he seem to be holding his temper better since he hasnt been sent off for a while now(he was sent on in his debut for cruzeiro and in a libertadorees macth early this year)

Re: Liverpool Thread

Lavezzi doesn't play as a winger but as a support striker. I don't think he will move from Napoli, at least this season. They're focusing all their resources on holding onto him and Hamsyk.

Exactly, Quality player though unless Rafa will look to shift him out of position or have Gerrard move out wide.

I think he should set the team up to be able to interchange like your lot. Gerrard, Kuyt/Beni, and a 3rd player able to play all across the front would be best imo.

Have you watched him play? The no of times he moves out wides, and then skins defenders. His attributes surely make him more of a winger. More of a winger than Silva anyways.

Re: Liverpool Thread

Yep seen plenty, Again him moving out wide doesn't make him a winger, its a trait lots of players do to create themselves a bit of space to work with. Henry, Rooney are examples and both are capable of playing on the wing but playing them their just doesn't bring out the best in them neither do I think the a striker being played out their enjoys it.

I think Rafa's looking to break the Torres/Gerrard combo, Might mean having Gerrard on the right and Lavezzi behind Torres with Lavezzi/Gerrard swapping now and then.

Or Rafa might just play him wide?

Don't really want to get into formation and stuff. We need to add a quality attacker, and I trust Rafa to fit him into his system. And Lavezzi is top quality.

Did Kleber play for Corinthians youth team at any point, or did a player called Kleber play for them?
