A lot of people are saying Arshavin is what we're lacking. I haven't watched him enough to have a view, is he the right player for us?

Babel is shocking, and has been for the entire season so far.

Reira should have been on from the start.

Arshavin? I'd like him because he can run at people and make things happen!

Kuyt offered no attacking threat today what-so-ever!

I agree. I'd rather see El Zhar play ahead of Kuyt with regards to being able to take players on, show flair and get a cross in.

It is not the first time Everton's tactics have riled Benitez - two years ago after a 0-0 league draw at Anfield in a Merseyside derby the Spaniard said: "When you play against the smaller teams at Anfield you know the game will be narrow."

And Benitez took another subtle dig at Everton by suggesting that he has only ever deployed such tactics when he was Extremadura coach.

"I have never played like that here, and never did this while I was at Valencia, maybe at Extremadura a few times," he said.

I'm sorry, Benitez has never played negative football? Are you kidding me? His game is BUILT upon negative football. The whole 4-2-1-2-1 formation seems designed to make the middle of the pitch a quagmire, prevent any pretty approach play and then occassionally wonder up the pitch and hope Torres/Gerrard makes some magic.

Benitez is beginning to bore me a bit, needs to go back to being quiet and polite, and just managing his squad.

I don't ever remember us going to a match with the intention of packing out the defence and limiting chances completely, while hoping to score on the odd set-piece that we get.

Not that we can score from set-pieces but you get my point :)

ive wacthed plenty of la liga back when rafa was at valencia...i remember of it beeing a very defensive team when they faced madrid or barcelona away...

and yeh, Everton did play defensive in both games, but thats very normal imo.
look at the situation of both macthes and ull see there was nothing else that could be done in those games...
we have no strikers, no fellaini, no arteta yesterday and the main thing: liverpool just have a much better team...so u gotta play smart football and try using the tools u have, like set pieces and solid defense... unfortnatly Tim Howard was unlucky yesterday, otherewise u guys would have said bye bye to the cup.

i applaud moyes!

Moyes has said he was happy with the way Everton played yesterday and wants to carry on "competing" with the big 4 teams.


:LMAO: Sorry, but that wasn't competing!!! It was just a question of whether Liverpool could break them down or not. It wasn't Everton being competitive at all, all they were trying to do was not conceed a goal.

with the diference between everton squad(due to budget) and the top 4 squads beeing so loud, id say that is competing with what u got/can.

what do u expect him to do?
go attacking and go home with a 3-0 loss in the bag?

We fell foul to the same tactics that Everton used on Monday night and apparently didn't learn a lesson from it.

Rafa was as much to blame for our lack of attacking invention with our 1 striker on the pitch. I mean we knew that Everton weren't going to come to our place and play with more than 1 up top and that they were going to defend from start to finish, only showing any real threat when they got a set piece anywhere near our box and yet we seemed to lack any real threat at all during the whole game due to our slightly negative selection.

I fear for our title hopes if we continue to play like we don't have a clue against teams that come to our place and just park the bus

If the papers are to be believed (and they're generally not) if you can offload Keane and bring in Arshavin that would be exactly what the doctor ordered IMO. He'd offer far more threat than Babel, Kuyt, Benayoun and obviously Keane from the SS/wide striker role. Plus he's a clever player, I think he'd gel well with Torres and Gerrard.

Therefore I hope you don't get him, but would be a good move.

The papers are linking us with Arshavin now?

Apparantly Keane wasn't Rafa's choice of player. But as Parry is in charge of transfers, we paid a lot of money for a player we never really wanted. That would explain Keane being taken off, left on the bench and now not even in squads.

It also explains why Rafa was saying he wants full control of transfers, so that he can sign who HE wants as opposed to Parry signing his choice and passing them onto Rafa.

and rafa sure made alot of noise about keane during the summer, especially considering he didnt want to sign him.....

all these games at lfc are just quality, easily surpassing man citys ability to shoot themselves in the foot...

I'm not saying those were the wrong tactics for Everton yesterday brunnoce, I'm just saying that wasn't competing, in no way, shape or form.

Rafa's just attacking Everton to deflect the attention away from his poor tactics and failure to break teams down again. You've had about five 0-0 draws this season and clearly struggle against defensive opposition. Everton were more attacking than say Sunderland were at Old Trafford, but the key is United break them down in the end and get results. The jibe about letting Gerrard score is a poor comeback as well, refusing to admit that they should have had Cahill marked after last week. Gerrard's goals were from open play and one after some great skill, whereas all you had to do was stick a man on little Timmy and problem solved.

If Rafa had have had his way and got Barry, he might not have fit in so well and Alonso wouldn't have had the great season he's had helping you do so well. Maybe Parry's not so bad after all ;)

Exactly, Rafa wanted Alonso out and Barry in, Dani Alves would have left you for Barca or Real a season or two later anyway.

Nemeth has gone on loan to Blackpool :)

I think it will be good for him, the Championship is a great place to adjust to physical, english footy.

The general impression is that Nemeth has gone on a 1-month loan where he's expected to feature heavily for Blackpool. This'll give him plenty of match fitness and will return to us as a player we can use for the last stretch of the season.

Not seen Nemeth play but really looking forward to seeing him after hearing so much.

Just going back to this, I simply don't get him at all.

He's gotta be one of the quickest players in the world, let alone in the Premiership, and yet you never, and I mean never see him blast past someone.

It's like he doesn't believe in himself at all. If he got told to run past players I bet he'd have a field day, because I don't think there are many defenders that could live with him, and if he could polish his shooting up a bit, he'd be lethal because he's certainly got power in his shots.

Maybe he's just simply lacking confidence, but I wanna see him on a proper run, the kind that Ronaldo does if he's in full flow, I bet it'd be brilliant to watch.

We've seen few glimpses of Babel blasting passed someone and when he does, it's awesome.

But those few really are a few. Everyone thought it was a confidence issue but he's been with us long enough to get through a bad patch in his confidence. As it stands now, he has huge potential. If Rafa can't coax him out of this shell he's comfortable with, Babel is useless.

If we get him out of the shell, I feel he'll be a top drawer player. How much does Babel want it is the question. So far, he's not showing much desire.

He wanted to go back to Ajax on loan didn't he? He must be really low on confidence and/or unhappy at the club/with his role I guess, the potential is obviously there.
