Liverpool Thread

Re: Liverpool Thread

Sounds like the usual to me, lads having fun with some t@$$er having a drunken go at him/the group.

Not defending Gerrard at all btw, players should know better by now to not go out to clubs. It's always the same story.

Re: Liverpool Thread

Gerrard had to dive in. :D

You'd think players would learn to have private places booked. There's always some wanker wanting to make a name for himself.

Re: Liverpool Thread

February will shape your season, I said that a while ago. If im honest you lot best hope for a early exit in the CL and for us to go further otherwise theres no way we'll let 18 slip and thus knock you lot of your fecking perch :DD

hmm not quite yet, you will still have to win another league title and another 3 CL trophies to better us.

Re: Liverpool Thread

After watching the highlights of yesterday (the match not Gerrard's punch up) I've gotta admit you lot were really good but even you must admit some of the football you played was far better than you're used to, although Newcastle were poor! (Lucas's 1-2 and through ball for Gerrard's second was sweet)

In that role behind the striker where he's got no defensive responsibility, Gerrard is far more effective than as one of a midfield pairing, the only problem is, if you want to keep that formation, when Torres is back surely he'll be the lone striker, which means moving Kuyt out onto the wing where Benayoun has been playing so well lately (I think he's been one of your best players for the past month) and then where does that leave Keane? Surely he wont be content sitting out every other match and not even getting on off the bench? I guess that's what Rafa's there for to make these decisions but that's a problem he's gotta sort out.

Regarding winning the league, I think it's too early to tell, a month or so ago everyone had Chelsea as dead certs but looking at them not you wouldn't say so. And if United win their 3 games in hand then beat you at OT then they'll be 2 points clear (assuming they win, lose and draw the same amount of games in between) so it's closer than it looks.

Re: Liverpool Thread

I wouldn't say Benayoun has played particularly well to be honest. He's shown the odd few glimpses but not enough for my liking. Although he's probably a better winger than Kuyt.

I agree that we play best when we have Masch and Alonso sitting with Gerrard in support, works great. But as you say, where does that leave Keane? Tough call by Rafa so it'll be interesting to see how he deals with the situation.

Re: Liverpool Thread

The performance reminded me of last seasons at newcaslte. Played them off the park aswell.

As for Keane, well I think the formation will change often enough depending on the opposition. At home I think him and Torres need to play together for the "bus-parkers" as a single striker just isn't enough with 10 men behind the ball.

If you want to win medals you need to accept being on the bench a lot. Look at Tevez at Utd, far too good a player to not play but you need the likes of him and Keane as back-up to win matches. Otherwise you are left with players like Ngog, El Zhar, ect who aren't good enough (yet).

Re: Liverpool Thread

I´m going to go to liverpool de 28 of January just to see Anfield and I want to know your opinion about the museum and stadium tour that cost 10 pounds. Is it good ?

Re: Liverpool Thread

Well the stadium tour is good (and thats coming from a United fan), obviously the trophy room is the most impressive part, but the stadium itself, and the surrounding area is a shithole.

I suppose being a Liverpool fan, and it only being a tenner means it'll be worth it for you either way.

Thanks dude. Since I´m just going to be in Liverpool for 7 hours I only have time to walk a bit in the City and go to Anfield. I can also go to Lounge Inn :P

I am very sure you won't find Mr. Gerrard there, if that's what you're after

Re: Liverpool Thread

28th of Jan, He's in court on the 23rd isn't he?
As The Smiths said " Strangeways, Here We Come"
You might have to ask for a V.O. mate.

P.S. for the non-English plastics on here
Strangeways is a Prison in Manchester
a V.O. is a visiting order sent by inmates of said Prisons to friends and relatives.

Re: Liverpool Thread

Nothing will happen even if he did it. The others will take the rap and a nice pay-off from the club.
We're all behind you Steven. I'm having a whip round tomorrow for him.

Re: Liverpool Thread

Only if they're at the stadium which they probably won't be. Best place for that is waiting outside the carpark at the training ground I imagine.

I was thinking before, as the club has backed Gerrard over what's happened.. do you think they would retract that and have a different stance if he was found guilty, considering he's captain and supposed to set an example to kids and all that stuff?

Re: Liverpool Thread

I can see how they could retract their support for him, same with the F.A., a slight different stance on Gerrard's situation to the way other players have been shafted by the F.A., complete hypocrits.Bowyer Woodgate and Barton spring to mind.

Did they though? I can't remember but a simple stance is; Innocent untill proven guilty. Can't remember if that was the case with the others, but would expect so as they would be in trouble to say anything different.

Benitez said of the decision to include Gerrard: "In terms of football, everything has been normal for Steven. He has received the support of everyone - the players, myself, the club - and he has trained well and is focused on football.

"I do not believe he will be distracted. He wants to play football and concentrate just on that. He will be thinking about playing well, scoring goals and making sure the club progresses to the next round.

"He will play, and I have confidence he will be ready. It was a bad situation, but because we know most of the details, maybe not all, we have to support him because we know these things can happen to footballers now because they are very famous.

"If we want to help him, the best thing is to train normally and organise things in the same way. And to give him the opportunity to play football."

He added: "He will get that chance at Preston, hopefully by scoring goals he will know how pleased our fans will be. It is the only way to handle things.

"Everybody here has been supporting him. We know what was going on and it is clear it was a special situation, and we have to support him because we trust him.

From what I have heard (via his cousin and a mate, etc etc) was that the dj was calling him all sorts and having a go calling his kids all sorts. From the comments from Benitez that would seem to be the case

They haven't though have they? They said they support him. They make no mention of that they think he did the right thing or anything like that. They just said they will support him in this difficult time. Tbh if they said anything else they would be out of order, condeming someone still innocent.

Re: Liverpool Thread

Bowyer and Woodgate were both found not guilty in the end though. Cantona received Racist and personal abuse at Crystal Palace and we all know what the F.A. did to him, so i don't think the F.A. can use the provocation excuse without looking like complete hypocrits. I got done for assault and ABH about 20 yrs ago, think i got about a £150 fine, I know my employer wasn't very happy about me having time off work and didn't come out and publicly support me but then again i'm not a role model am i?.

But that was "on" the pitch. Did he go to court aswell and get done?

As for Bowyer all I can find, in the huge amount of results from bowyer and court :D , is that the FA didnt allow him to be selected for England whilst in court. Other then that it seems he conitued to play and be supported by Leeds (paying the costs of lawyers/ect).

Re: Liverpool Thread

It should have F.A. to do with the F.A., but then again you never know. Look at Evra's ban for something that happened AFTER the match.

Re: Liverpool Thread

but u guys are united ;)

and i dont think we can compare stevie with evra (not saying anything about him as a player, i think he's a great lb of the modern game)

Re: Liverpool Thread

For the odd good chance/shot/goal that Keane scores, his general play for us is pretty poor. David N'gog looks more comfortable :( He's having another off game tonight, tripping over himself a good few times.

At least we have Torres to come on if Keane remains playing poorly :)

Re: Liverpool Thread

Keane being hit and miss might have something to do with not getting a run of games. His confidence is stop start.

Just an idea.

Re: Liverpool Thread

Confidence or no confidence, some of his control and finishing is schoolboy stuff that he's getting wrong.

That chance on the 44th min, open goal and he fluffs it, sums it up for me. Me personally, I'd expect him to play better in the games he's getting otherwise I'd be shipping him out. He's hardly wowing us when he gets a game.

Can't believe he just missed that chance

Re: Liverpool Thread

are you forgetting the two goals at Bolton, the goals against West Brom, Arsenal, PSV etc

I can't believe people are doubting his abillity. Judge him in May.
