Liverpool Thread

Re: Liverpool Thread

Unless the press are taking the piss out of Pennant and winding him up ...

Pennant just isn't that good

Re: Liverpool Thread

 :SS Why are Europeans big boys chasing Pennant like he's the BPITW?!

25 year old winger, who's had experience playing at a big club, and playing in a CL final, available for cheap as a squad player.

Makes sense.

Re: Liverpool Thread

I think it's a good sign of how much more the prem is being respected if he of all people goes to a big European club.

Re: Liverpool Thread

It is on a bosman to be fair...

? But it isn't though, is it? He's got a contract till the summer so its either cash in on him now or a loan deal out of the club (meaning no wagecosts for six months).

Re: Liverpool Thread

Oh oke.

Was just browsing through the stats for this season. I've read quite a few omments that Liverpool are top due to Chelsea and Manu dropping points this season:

So really the only difference is Manu need to win their games in hand to stay oncourse. Other then that its the same for those two.

Re: Liverpool Thread

Yep, the only reason your on top is because the FA gave us the toughest possible start to the season but it will help us in the 2nd half :))

this notion is ridiculous considerng we have drew games we usually win or should have won.

So we have dropped points just as much as United and Chelsea, but some of United and Chelsea's dropped points are due to being beaten by US.

Re: Liverpool Thread

You're up there because you haven't been quite as poor as us or Chelsea. I think whoever wins it this year will feel a little lucky because no team has looked like champions yet.

Re: Liverpool Thread

Here we go, I knew it wouldn't take long before someone said we'd be lucky winners if we finished top at the end of the season :D

I knew this would happen though, if we do win the league, all's we'll get from the Bitters and the Mancs are that we only won it because we were lucky

Re: Liverpool Thread

Agree with Dags, if you win the league you'll be the best team in the England no questions asked. (says it knowing they'll feck up) :))

(Please dont bump this post in May if....)

I responded to this awhile ago now, but basicly looking at the fixtures you had one game more, or less (can't remember) against the top 10 then Liverpool. If you win your games in hand you will have an improved, relative as you will have played one game less at home, record on last year. Same goes for chelsea, if hey win their next game they will be a point better off.

You're up there because you haven't been quite as poor as us or Chelsea.

Like Peter said, the main difference is that Liverpool have won 7/9 points this season vs 1/9 last season. Those 6 points put us at 44 (45 real). Manu and chelsea have improved on last season.

Re: Liverpool Thread

Just to echo other sentiments, team at the end of 38 games is the best in the land. End of story. There's no point talking about the table right now, other than to say that so far, given the matchups that have happened, Liverpool have a couple, or more, points over United and Chelsea. I don't think anything has been decided.

There's no point in talking about how teams 'should' be playing. If it were that easy they'd just use FM and simulate the damn season.

You lot hoping for a draw this weekend, or does one of the two trailers scare you more?

Re: Liverpool Thread

Re: Liverpool Thread

Liverpool legend Ian Rush has announced plans to put a familiar-looking six-a-side team together to play in the UK's Prostar leagues. The team-sheet reads: Clemence, Hansen, Carragher, Dalglish, Gerrard and Rush - but the catch is the side will be made up of fans with the same surnames as the Anfield favourites. Anyone who fancies their chances of selection should email info@cliffordfrench.co.uk

Re: Liverpool Thread

I'm beginning to like Rafa more : http://www.football365.com/story/0,17033,8652_4770206,00.html

Not content to talk directly to the kid at school bullying him, he makes a list of all the bad things the kid has done, and then hands them into the headmaster. Hehehe.

Though I have real contention with this one:
"We have seen players sent off at Old Trafford and we do not see our opponents sent off." Erm, Rafa, check the facts mate, no one has had more opposition player sent off this season in the league than Liverpool.

Will set an interesting precedence if the FA do anything.

Re: Liverpool Thread

Actually reading through the full transcript, it's pretty bollocks. He brings up the Macherano thing, bizarrely claims that Steve Bennett is pro-United and biased (surely if he did that just after a match, he would be brought up before the FA); he claims Fergie is not punished a few weeks after Fergie has served his second ban of the year; he (as I said above) says United get people sent off and Liverpool don't (facts show the opposite); and he ends by saying he doesn't want to talk about United because there's a big game with Stoke. At a conference for a Stoke match that he brought a written statement on United to. Erm.

Fergie's probably knocking back a good glass of red in celebration.

Re: Liverpool Thread

Not really, I think it's a very clever move by Rafa. It's going to highlight Fergie to the FA and he wont be able to get away with any ref rants or approaching the ref for the rest of the season.

For Rafa to do this just before the United - Chelsea game as well? Interesting tactic.

Re: Liverpool Thread

But Fergie has been punished twice for doing that in 2008. I don't think the FA are going to forgot that. In fact, Rafa even starts his rant by pointing that out.

I'm all for some good banter (I hate it but I do miss Jose for that) but if you're going to do it, a) don't read from a f*cking list and b) at least try not contradict yourself in the first minute.

Rafa Benitez January 2009

"Two years ago we had a lot of early kick-offs away on Saturdays when United were playing on Sundays. And we didn't say anything"

Rafa Benitez September 2007

"We will analyse it and talk with the Premier League. We will see how to stop this situation, but if you play on Tuesday, for example, in an international break, it will be easier. In the Champions League, if you play on Wednesday, you must play on Sunday. In Spain its like this. The television companies decide on early kick-offs on Saturday, so someone needs to talk to them as well. If you want your teams at the top of the Champions League, then protect them."

I mean, I'd say it could have just slipped his mind in the heat of the moment, but he had prepared a friggin list!

Anyway, it'll all come down to 'Pool fans going "Yeah have him Rafa, that old Fergie is a cheat" and United fans going "Haha, Keegan part deux". I'm much more intrested to know what neutrals think.

Like I said, I love the banter, but Rafa's delivery and facts (fats? fahts?) are just wrong.
