Liverpool Thread

Re: Liverpool Thread

Damn, we're losing another member of our staff?!

Rafa Benitez has confirmed first-team coach will leave Anfield to become manager of J League side JEF United Chiba.
The Scot leaves for Japan after nearly a decade at Liverpool both as chief scout and, since 2004, the coaching staff.

Benitez confirmed Miller would be replaced over the summer.

He told Liverpoolfc.tv: "It is very positive news for Alex. This is a very good opportunity for him to coach in Japan.

"It means we will be promoting some of the existing coaching staff and also over the summer we will be looking to bring in a replacement.

"We have some names and options but need more discussion first.

"I want to wish Alex all the best in his new job."

Chiba are bottom of the J.League standings after collecting two points from 11 games so far this season - a run which led to Croatian coach Josip Kuze being sacked on Wednesday.

Miller enjoyed a 15-year playing career with Rangers before earning his European coaching license.

His managerial CV includes South China AA, St Mirren and Hibernian, who he led to the Scottish League Cup.

Rumour has it Sammy Lee is coming back to us.

Re: Liverpool Thread

Rafa has confirmed Kewell will leave at the end of the season, and he'll let Crouch go for £15m.

Re: Liverpool Thread

Yep. I'm pretty glad of that. He's spent far too long playing above his level already and I'm surprised he lasted this long.

Re: Liverpool Thread

And probably good for him cause he'll be starting on wherever he goes (other than the top 4), and good for England too. Good move career wise for him. Riise has a soft spot in my heart for what he's done for the club (not the last year or so). I think he'll find his form elsewhere.

Let's be honest here, if Riise lost his shot, he lost 90% of the player he was. It's been 120 shots or something without a goal.

Don't think Riise has deteriorated that much as a player. Probably lost a bit of pace. It's just that the general quality of players at Liverpool since Rafa took over (and in the league as well) has gone up.

Re: Liverpool Thread

I honestly think peter crouch was brilliant at liverpool , never looked like he was punching above his weight so to speak, what ever club he goes to he will score goals, great all round player for a big lad!!

I agree. I think most Liverpool fans will miss Crouch. He kept his head down and never complained about being dropped, came in and banged goals in like he was a regular and just got on with things. A good goalscorer who has more to his game than his height.

His height is a hinderance in a way, he should be far better at heading than he actually is.

Re: Liverpool Thread

yeh agreed:
its a shame for the big fella but he`s not really a liverpool kind of player, could see him do really well at a club like sunderland, no disrespect to them.....

I'm talking about Crouch on this occasion

Re: Liverpool Thread

I still think Crouch has that potential in him. Maybe he can come up next season. This season, he did not get much games, maybe that was the problem. and for Riise, i guess he should move on.

Re: Liverpool Thread

Crouch has been a good player whenever given the chance never thrown around his weight nor showed any tantrums good player!!

Re: Liverpool Thread

Last day of the season, interesting to see the 5th spot battle between bluenoses and villa. I'd rather see Aston Villa didn't go to Europe so I'll be easier to lure Barry.

Good point, I never thought of that. I think we'll get Barry anyway but Villa not being in Europe will definately make negotiations easier.

Re: Liverpool Thread

Yeah I got that impression when I read it on Sky, O'Neill sounds like he's gone crazy and sounds really riled up!

I think he needs a chill pill, he doesn't realistically expect Barry to say "Yes Martin, I'll stay at Villa and not really have a chance of winning anything than one of the English cups if we're lucky. I will turn down a move to Liverpool where I have a far greater chance of winning something and playing with world-class players. Whatever you say, Martin."

Re: Liverpool Thread

Meanwhile, contrary to speculation, Liverpool have not received an offer from Inter Milan for captain Steven Gerrard.

And, as revealed in the ECHO earlier this week, the Reds have no interest in Barcelona left-back Eric Adibal.

Benitez confirmed rumours suggesting the French international is Anfield bound are totally unfounded.

He said: "I do not like to talk about players but he is not a player we are looking for."

...

Re: Liverpool Thread

Yep, he is miles better than Riise, Aurelio and Arbeloa, hehe. :-pp

Not so much than a fit Aurelio (but when do we get that :-pp), but yeh, he's world class.

Still, looks like we're sniffing around for Vargas.

I'd rather we give Insua a chance. He's 19, and hasn't looked out of place so far. Right back needs more attention, as I don't think Arbeloa has the same potential as Insua.

Re: Liverpool Thread

Abidal is certainly world class. Been poor this season, but it's been in a shit Barca team under a clueless coach, where every player has underperformed.

And Aurelio, when fit, and playing regularly, is certainly close to world class. Probably could have been Brazils's first choice left back at the 2002 world cup, if it had not been for the politics in the Brazilian national team.
