Re: Liverpool Thread

How about Vicente?

Given Benitez' Valencia connections he'd be a sound buy.

Before he got injured he was certainly a very good prospect, Arsenal were after him for a while if I remember correctly, and we showed interest in him.

Funny you should mention Vicente. Arguably the best winger in Europe when he was playing under Rafa at Valencia, but he's the Spanish Kewell now. Get's injured way too often after Rafa left.

We might go for his teammate David Silva though. Good player, but has hardly improved over the last 3 seasons. And maybe a bit too lightweight for the Prem.

Rafa's mentioned a few occassions now, that he wants all his players end May and early June, so that he can have a good pre season.

Gareth Barry seems very likely, which may see the end of Xabi. Love him, absolutely top class player, and much more talented than Barry, but just get a feeling Barry is more suited to the league.

Also, we were asked to double our 3M bid on Aaron Ramsey. That's got me a bit excited. Even at around 5M, Ramsey would be a hell of a buy.

Also, seems like Bosingwa is available, and we might go for him. Rafa's definitely looking for a top class right back, and Bosingwa fit's in. Might even go for Dani Alves. Rafa's always rated him highly, and we would have gotten him for around 10M a couple of years ago, if we had the funds available. Might have to double that price, but Alves is worth it IMO.

i really dont think xabi is that much better then barry, for one, barry can play multiple positions, there similiar in many respects... in face i think barry is actually more consistent then xabi... i think your gaining more with barry then your losing with xabi, he is a great passer of the ball, but thats about it....

Yeh, but he is so important to Liverpool. Rafa likes possession football, and likes to be in control and that's what Xabi does. He's our tempo setter, and keeps the ball moving, and that's so important for us. And, he's our playmaker. He's inconsistent, but absolutely vital for Liverpool. Gerrard needs Xabi in the team, because Xabi is able to find Gerrard with space and time to move the ball forward. It's just plain to see that our dip in form at the beginning of the season coincided with the loss of Agger and Xabi. And our great form in the last 3 months has coincided with the coming of Skrtel and Xabi.

He doesn't always play to his best, but it's clear that Liverpool struggle when he doesn't play.

Re: Liverpool Thread

Yeah even i think Barry is better than Xabi, infact this season, Barry has really played well. Xabi, maybe due to the injury or his son:-pp hasnt played the same way as he always does.

Re: Liverpool Thread

Not that convinced about Barry yes he has been good for Villa but if given the choice would still pick Xabi over Barry dunno why though!!

Re: Liverpool Thread

to be honest i never really took notice of barry until he wore the england shirt , then he started to shine and stood out a mile, dont think oneil willing to let go without a fight for him, prob hold out for top dollar.

Re: Liverpool Thread

If you get him I'll be shocked, why would he leave Barcelona? think its just paper talk, nothing more, nothing less.

Re: Liverpool Thread

Also, we're in talks with Maik Taylor as our backup keeper next season.

I like that.

Re: Liverpool Thread

Im shocked at this "mass" clear out from Barca, there back 4 is fine? its the attack that needs a clearence, Henry, Ronaldinho, Deco and maybe even Eto'o may all leave but then you have a good squad of players? and maybe one or two additions but thats about it? I don't think Reina deserves it TBH it should be James award this year

Really? They've looked quite shaky this season, especially
trying to accomindate Milito who is a good no-nonsense
tackler but makes rash mistakes.

Barry better than Xabi? hahaha good one.
next people will be saying Carrick is
better than Pirlo.

So do I we need a steady pair of hands, Itandje is a liability
signing Taylor would be like when we signed Paul jones(even tho he player one game)

Re: Liverpool Thread

How about Riquelme for pace settling and playmaking?

For me David Villa, Silva, and Joaquin from Valencia and Jesus Navas, Diego Capel, and Dani Alves from Sevilla all would be great tranfers.

I dont know much about Gareth, but he is definitely not an exciting player for me.

--------------Reina----------------
Alves----Agger---Carragher---Arbeola
-------------------------------------
------------Mascherano---------------
Joaquin-------Gerrard---------Babel
-----------------David Villa---------
---------Torres---------------------

Would love to see a team like this. :D

Eh, but Reina does deserve it. 1 more clean sheet than James.

Reina plays for a top 4 side while James doesn't IMO that makes his acheivement stand out more, Reina's a good keeper but the amount of times James has had games were he would simply not be beaten make him the best goalie this season.

Re: Liverpool Thread

Just read why the barry signing could happen. Adjusting the formation to a 4-3-3 would suit barry better then xabi. Xabi seems to have lost some pace, not that he had much to begin with.

-------reina---------
rb---carra--agger--lb
-------masch---------
--gerrard--barry-----
rw-------------babel-
------torres---------

Looks quite decent, especially for the prem. Dont think xabi brings much in england. In europe its another matter though. Cant say im excited by the prospect, however carrick didnt look like he was going to add much for manu and it gave them just the right balance. Barry goes forward on the left, gerrard on the right. Might create the balance needed.

Fixed for you.

I do agree though. Xabi has just looked out of place in England after his first season. There's no doubt in my mind that he's more talented than Barry. But just think Xabi would be more suited to Spain, where he'll have more time on the ball to showcase his talents.

Let's just hope we don't end up overpaying for Barry.

Re: Liverpool Thread

I watched Abidal a couple of times. He is really good on the defensive end. He can shut down the right side completely just by himself, but I haven't seen much from him on the offensive side. I know he is quite fast though. I can't think of too many leftbacks as an alternative though. Maybe Grosso or Marcelo.

Re: Liverpool Thread

The threads have that end of season feeling about them dont they, most have gone quiet now, shame we have had a laugh in the main, only lots of flak handed out and recieved too.

whats been your highs and lows this season?

Re: Liverpool Thread

I was thinking about Barry coming to Liverpool and I have a feeling that if he joins the same thing that happened to Crouch this season will happen to Barry if he signs. What do think?

Re: Liverpool Thread

I think everyone will say the same thing.

Highs have been Torres., Skrtel, the support we've shown for Rafa during the mess with the owners, pulling back at the end of the season to recover fourth and getting our form back.

Lows ... let me think ... POSSIBLY the childish bickering in the boardroom  Losing Agger for the season has set us back a lot. A bad loss of form and too many draws this season.

Re: Liverpool Thread

Since Rafa likes the 3 central midfield position then I doubt Barry won't play much, Alonso would've played alot but due to his injuries and loss of form he hasn't played as much.

Yeah the boardroom is much like a forum for all people to see what's going on inside.

Re: Liverpool Thread

Just been on the phone to the ticket office to see if they accept Visa Electron cards to get some tickets for tonights game, 25 bloody minutes I was on hold, being told I'm in position one.

Gave up in the end, an 0844 number can't be cheap to call from a mobile :(

Re: Liverpool Thread

The reserve finals is it? Lucas will be playing so hope it'll be a cracking game.

Re: Liverpool Thread

Yep, looks like a pretty good team, we've got a good future ahead of us with the talent in the reserves already :)

Bruna is playing for Spain tonight as well against France.

Re: Liverpool Thread

We've done it

3-0

Nemeth, Brouwer, Lucas

Nemeth with a goal and an Assist, Pachaco played well too.

Brouwer has been on a bit of a hot streak.
