Ligue 1

Re: Ligue 1 - 10/11 (Marseille Coupe de la Ligue winner)

Me too.

Very much a "Champions" performance that, coming from behind away at St Etienne. Great athleticism by De Melo for the equaliser and Landreau made some excellent saves, including a very good penalty save.

Re: Ligue 1 - 10/11 (Marseille Coupe de la Ligue winner)

Well said Abou and Gerd now you see... never over... ;)

@Tuta, thanks. Yeah unless some miracle happens.. this Arles team is WORST ever in Ligue 1 and probably worst team I've ever seen in any of the top leagues! They actually had some decent players (not a super bad squad) but too many changes and started horribly and from then the confidence was just down and everyhting seemed 'impossible'.

Re: Ligue 1 - 10/11 (Marseille Coupe de la Ligue winner)

As bad as they are, they're still not as bad as my local team Derby County, who finished the 2007/08 Premiership season with a grand total of 11 points!

Re: Ligue 1 - 10/11 (Marseille Coupe de la Ligue winner)

Auxerre! :D

Beautiful! :D

Hammered Lyon and so now are pretty safe. OL on the other hand... damn if they lose that CL place, it's a travesty! Lyon without CL football... that's like Man Utd not being in CL.. how long has it been since they've been in CL? 12 years straight? 10? I forget.

Puel will probably be let go of anyway but if they don't get that 3rd place, then it's certain! Good for Paris though! Would be nice to see them in CL IF it means they're gonna have extra money to invest and keep their good players.

As for Sochaux, yes well done! It's amazing, their squad is no better than Monaco's really but look at the difference in table and the result! Hammered them 3-0 and may well have sent the Principality club down to Ligue 2!

@Abou, you're totally right! I can't believe I forgot about that Derby side!

Re: Ligue 1 - 10/11 (Marseille Coupe de la Ligue winner)

Thank you Auxerre for letting Paris in the game.

If we manage to beat Lorient on sunday (the hardest remaining game Imo), I don't think we will lose any more point.
If I remember correctly we won the last 2 games at Lorient (and they beat us at home...).
We have to win this game to put some pressure on Lille!

Good to see Laquait in this list. For years he was the GK of Charleroi in Belgium and IMO the best GK of our competition.

IMO he is better than some of the GK who defended goal for the French national team...

Re: Ligue 1 - 10/11 (Lille Coupe de France winner)

Well i guess i was wrong in all predictions :p
Well done Lille ;)

Re: Ligue 1 - 10/11 (Lille Coupe de France winner)

You were prety sure about PSG allezlinter...but that is the beautiful thing about football: everything can happen.

Glad for Lille that they have at least one trophy in this fantastic season, this might help them to ease their nerves for the last Ligue 1 matches...

Re: Ligue 1 - 10/11 (Lille Coupe de France winner)

I don't know why i thought PSG would show their usual strenght of cup matches ...
But Lille is a beautiful team, and i prefer to see them on top instead of Marseille :P

Re: Ligue 1 - 10/11 (Lille Coupe de France winner)

Nice to see Lille win some silverware after something like 50-60 years, isn't it?

And they could complete a domestic double if Marseille lose tonight.

Just like London buses, eh? :P

Re: Ligue 1 - 10/11 (Lille Coupe de France winner)

Terrible miss by Cheyrou

for info, Lens got to Ligue 2

Lorient -Marseille 2-2

It's not over yet.
Lille have a 3 points advantage on Marseille with one game in hand.
First of all LOSC still has to win that match.
If i'm not mistaken Lille also have to play Lorient and this was the match were they lost their CL place last season...so it's not over yet Marseille fans...

Re: Ligue 1 - 10/11 (Lille Coupe de France winner)

It's over because of the goal difference. That's one more point for Lille.
And Lille already played Lorient, that was a draw.
Lille only has to win 1 of their last 3 games.

Marseille - Valenciennes
Caen - Marseille

Lille - Sochaux
Paris - Lille
Lille - Rennes

Re: Ligue 1 - 10/11 (Lille Coupe de France winner)

Well those 3 clubs are doing very well.
Sochaux seems an easy match, but they are surprisingly good.

Paris-Lille is always a special match and Paris will want revenge after their cup defeat (unless they prefer Lille to champions instead of L'OM).

Rennes were relatively a long time in the running for the title, perhaps now they are out of form...

It seems as if OM have easier matches.

Paris is "fighting" for the 3rd place with Lyon, so I don't think they will let Lille win!

Re: Ligue 1 - 10/11 (Lille Coupe de France winner)

Congratulations LOSC! The best team in France won. At the end the little referee decision won't even matter. Most entertaining team as well.

Rudy Garcia, Adil Rami, Landreau, Beria, Mavuba, Gervinho, Tulio, Sow, Hazard, Cabaye, even players like Obraniak who weren't always first choice but played their part in this championship.

AllezInter, I think you've learned your lesson here now. Never speak with so much certainty about matters that are hardly set in stone again.
Like you, I, Gerd and many others also actually thought OM would probably go on to win the title a few weeks ago. But while I gave them 60 - 40% chance, you were being very arrogant and making ridiculous statements like It's ALL OVER! OM are champs, Lille have no chance and they will definitely lose to PSG in Cup as well cuz PSG is cup team, etc. etc. All predictions, not certain at all yet you speak like it is.
Now they have won the double and you were wrong about everything.

Other news, Great season for Martin Marvin and I think Amalfitano will leave Lorient this summer. Maybe go to Bordeaux or something.

Re: Ligue 1 - 10/11 (Lille Coupe de France winner)

PLF, if i'm not mistaken, it isn't over yet...OM can still become champions (but with the goal difference it seems higly unlikely).

But yes, i think Lille would deserve to be champions...let's hope they can keep their good players and that they find a good replacement for Adil Rami who is off to Valencia anyway...

Re: Ligue 1 - 10/11 (Lille Coupe de France winner)

gerd, Lille is champ at 99,9% and it's a good champion
and OM directly to Champion's League at 90%

Re: Ligue 1 - 10/11 (Lille Coupe de France winner)

93% !

And just for the fun of it, I hope Lille get destroyed by Paris and we do the same with Valenciennes.
That would be epic and the pressure Lille would have for the last match would be incommensurable.

Re: Ligue 1 - 10/11 (Lille Coupe de France winner)

Just for the fun of it, or just out of frustration that litle Lille wins and not big OM?

I agree with you, but i think i never saw a championship where teams fight so few for the places : OM let its chance tons of time, and so have Lyon and Paris. Like if they were feared to qualify ... strange L1

I'm ok with Lille being champions. They lead the ligue 90% of the time playing well. The club has been improving every year since 2000.

Maybe the euphoria will make them play bad, I don't know.

But that would be unique if they fail.

In the end the only match Marseille had to win was at home against Lille. But that day the best team won.
