GTA IV - NON-SPOILER THREAD

Good god this game is crap now

Offline i've got sod all left to do other than look for the pigeons to unlock a useless chopper to then do nothing with it.

Online... well they've still not got online stat tracking on the R* site and hardly anyone seems to be around as well.

Think i'll be trading this in this friday for MGs4 and Civ

I still love it. I took JB's advice and ive made sure I havent completed it too quickly. Its like any game really (well except perhaps FIFA or PES) Once you have done the main part of the game thats pretty much it!

I still aint completed it either

and that video is brilliant but how does he get on the roller coaster?

i aint completed eitehr. how far r u? i've done 37% of the game and bored of single player now because the storyline just doesnt grab my atention

I've done about 82%... Only got the "hidden packages", a few Brucie races, stunt jumps & a few Jacob side missions left.

And to make things worse:
http://www.digitalspy.co.uk/gaming/a97649/gta-iv-xbox-360-content-is-delayed.html
Games publisher Take-Two has announced that the launch of the eagerly-awaited episodic content for the Xbox 360 edition of Grand Theft Auto IV has been delayed.

Although the firm earlier said the content would be released this autumn, "portfolio balancing issues" have forced the company to put back its release until early next year.

The additional Xbox 360 exclusive episodes, which will be released on Microsoft's Xbox Live service, will see users charged to download them. However, prices have yet to be announced.

During a conference call to investors, company CEO Ben Feder said: "It’s the same team developing it and the same studio that is developing it, but again the delay is not about development issues. The delay is about portfolio balancing issues."

Oh well, roll on Saints Row 2...

The delay is about them wanting it looking better at the close of a financial year rather than in the middle, wankers

I've seen reviewers give this 10/10 everywhere. Is it one of the first games I should get with my new console? I have played all the other GTAs but how good is this one in comparison?

It's really good really, it lacks a few things such as driving airplanes and such but it has one of the best storylines ever, and it's very fun to play. I do think it's over-hyped, the game is very addictive and will get boring sooner or later (in my experience). Just enjoy the story, and enjoy the free time you have, but I suggest you get it. It brings a whole new level to gaming.

Now that the hype has died down and we have all got over the wow factor that the game had when we started playing it I was wondering what people think of the game now?

For me the more you do the more samey it gets. Go from Point A to Point B, do this, should you die you retry. The added social features do nothing really for the main game and most of the time you just want to get on with the story rather than go on a date with a girl or meet up with one of the guys and go to a strip club/get drunk (Yes getting drunk the first few times in game is funny but after that its just annoying)

Even on Live the fun factor vanished pretty quickly and we all thought it would be a game we were playing for months and months, its just not happened

I haven't touched the game for ages!! - But then again I haven't touched my Xbox for a while - only to play the BFBC demo.

It always happens with me on GTA games - I get through a small part of the game and then get bored and just go around exploring and blowing stuff up etc.

The online I will definately go back to though - I really enjoyed that.

i seemed to have gone off games in general for a bit

the BF demo is the only game that i want to play at present

I'm still doing what I normally do with GTA games, going round killing. It's missing some things I feel. It should be more interactive, for instance yesterday I came upon a golfing range. So why can't I hit a few balls on it. The fairground is empty when it could have been a hotbed of mini games. Just feel there's things missing. But I'm still enjoying driving around killing.

It would also have been nice to have more buildings to enter.

I still love the game, purely because I don't play it very often. I've started to realise that the more you play something the less you enjoy it. I've stopped playing games every single night and now when I put a game in I spend more time playing it than moaning about it - it's a revelation.

The fact that you can't get online games with your mates any more is nothing to do with the game being crap, you can't get a game of anything unless it's within two weeks old. GTA is great online, CoD is great online, Everybody's Golf is great online, but after two weeks people have played the game too much and you never get a game with them again. Which is a pain in the arse because playing randoms is no fun IMO.

The only way around that is to join a forum dedicated to the game where everyone loves it, or (even more geeky) a clan. Then you'll always have someone decent to play. Just like this is a football games forum, so you'll always have someone to play a football game with, and someone who doesn't cheat out their arse as well.

This was the first GTA I've completed since GTA3. I didn't complete VC & SA because I took my time, and then a new game came out and they were put away and forgotten about (I'm tempted to pick SA on the cheap and have another go).

I thought the story was superb, with all the characters giving it a more "community" feeling. Niko is a great character, way more complex than previous GTA leads.

The missions, whilst pretty much samey (drive to location, have shootout, get away), had enough variety for me to want (and enjoy) carrying on. The "Heat" mission being one of my favourites.

Sub missions started off well, but soon get repetitive. Is it me or does it seem like there were more side missions in Saints Row?
The comedy club could have done with about 30 different scenes. As CW said, the drinking got annoying as you were always chased by police (except the first time). The Police Most Wanted missions were fun, some were a lot better than most of the story missions.

Girlfriends were implemented well, but maybe there should have been more (maybe all of the people on lovemeet?). Not trying to sound like a saddo(!), but there could be more Rockstar comedy stereotypes squeezed in there.

I still rate the game highly, but after having a think I've come up with this:
If the game had been released when it was meant to I don't think people would be as negative about it. A year later and expectations are bound to be higher.

I'm not trading my copy in. I'm happy to wait for the DLC next year. Hopefully it'll be worth the hype!

trade it now for 25 quid or one of those trade in and get ????? ffor a fiver and then pick it up again next year for a tenner to play those extra missions
