Gran Turismo 5

Yea, there is no doubting the quality of the G series. I had the G25 and it was mostly built of metal, had the seperate shifter which felt quality, pedals that had gas cylinders in them so they had a very realistic feel and the force feedback was really smooth.

It was a quality wheel, no doubting. Worth £200? Dunno, depends on the use you get out of it - I'd honestly say if money was no object or you were a pro sim-driver, then yes, the G series is a must.

For a more casual player that wants something near the G experience, then the DFGT is a VERY good wheel.

g27 has a rev counter, more powerful FF, better material, contruscted and built like a rock, clutch pedels, H shift or sequencial gear stick that is seperated from the wheel so can be attached left or right side of u as far as or as near to the wheel as you want.

G27 doesn't have sequential...

Honestly, if the clutch on the G series doesn't have built-in force feedback related to the revs and the movements/position of the shift stick (highly unlikely, does GT5 even contemplate the clutch via software?) I don't see it being worthwhile.

...tell ya what, the whole clutch simulation will probably be half-assed anyway, assuming it's actually going to be there, so might as well just map it to a button and save 150 Euro with a DFGT.

I mean, if you can't "feel" the clutch then what's the point? It'd just be like activating it on a real car with a numb limb, know what I mean?

Can anybody give confirmation on this though?

The clutch does not have FF, but it is registered in game and has to be depressed to allow gear changing (otherwise car goes into N).

Ok, its not perfect, but its a close enough simulation.

LOOK OUT!

Update: Sony Europe has confirmed to Eurogamer that Gran Turismo 5 has been delayed in Europe, too.

Gran Turismo 5 will now be released here "before Christmas".

"We are sorry to say that Gran Turismo 5 will not be available on the previously announced release date of November 3rd, but the game will be released before Christmas," a statement read.

"We sincerely apologise to GT fans for the delay, however creator Kazunori Yamauchi and the team at Polyphony Digital want to make certain they are creating a racing experience of the highest quality.

"We are confident that this ambitious game will exceed expectations when it launches later this year. We'll have more information for you in the near future."

Worldwide delay.

Does anyone know what caused the initial delay in Russia?

But not delayed in the USA?

It was officially delayed worldwide til "Holiday season", they prolly realized that the damage build was half assed and definitely not in line with the rest of the game and went back to the drawing board.

Either that or they wanted to avoid another big title coming out around Nov. 2 (is there any?).

No way are they going 'back to the drawing board' for the damage model! Would take months (or in PD's case, "years").

Nah, it would be something minor for such an apparently small delay of around a month. Game must be almost Gold Master by now if it was due to ship in 3 weeks.

Probably an issue with marketing or the manual printing... something silly like that.

Something to do with COD coming out a few days later maybe? Avoiding people skipping GT5 for that?

Yea, on the surface it makes sense - but 2 different genres, you'd expect on the whole, 2 different kinds of gamers going for them.

Plus, doesnt say much about the confidence of PD if they want to delay going up against another COD (that I'm not excited about, wonder if other gamers feel the same?).

CoD is out next month but its not the same target audience, I don't think any triple A games that were launching alongside it on Nov 2nd.

There was an event today, goodie bags were handed out and review copies were included.

Must be a last minute thing.

We're not talking about hard core racing game fans though.. we're talking Joe Public with a spare £50 that month for a game. For your average gamer wanting to buy a new game and have fun.... I think most would plump for the hugely popular COD than the GT games which since GT3... maybe 4... have become progressively worse and these days are mainly aimed at steering wheel hardcore fans than casual gamers who enjoyed the classic games and want to play with a pad.

I mean I've had my eye on GT5 for years now but releasing at the same time (or a week or so apart) as a great looking new COD game and I already know where my money was heading. GT5 will be the same game in 2 or 3 months (plus cheaper) but you need to get into a game like COD from day 1 to be on a level playing field. (RE pbb's comment - From what I've seen this cod look more fun than WM2 and I really enjoyed that until the noob tubes became too much ... the customisation side on this looks great and the theatre mode should be great for showing off cool moments or screw ups.

Is GT a bigger franchise though? I mean, exclusive title limits possible profits... the series has been on the decline for years... last few demos or hd prologues have had negative feedback... COD sells like millions on day 1 release.

I don't think it IS related to COD... but that's about the only thing I could think of game wise coming out that may have affected them. Any other reason is something they've fucked up themselves like licensing some stupid music with verses from the Quran or some other silly shit like that. Maybe they forgot to remove those flags on that building or whatever the hell it was that I read they got in trouble for.

Prologue has sold 4million copies, I can see GT5 selling a lot more than that.

Good point about cod rad, in that people will want that day 1. Not so urgent with gt5 besides the hardcore fans.

I'm lucky enough to be able to get both, but I guess some folks it comes down to 1 game a month and form that pov, I agree cod is more accessible.

What I said about cod though (and to be fair, I haven't been following it closely), but I was down the pub playing darts last night and they had the England game up on the tv. Saw an ad at ht and I didn't know what game it was. Honestly thought it was some crappy 360 generic fps. Was genuinely shocked when it came up black ops at the end. Looked like nothing that would blow me away (no pun!) and looked no better than mw2 on the surface.

Anyway, with all the games coming out in the next few weeks, gt5 is no big loss for another few weeks. I'll be up to my tits in rock band 3 anyway.

I can believe this is delayed AGAIN :LMAO:
A bit gutted I wanted to trade PES in while the value is still high, a bit dissapointed with the full game after really liking the demo.

 @ Ari

A GameReactor associate in Tokyo, Gregor Wildermann, has reportedly made contact with Polyphony Digital and Kazunori Yamauchi for further clarification on Gran Turismo 5’s production status:
[Kazunori Yamauchi's] reply was that the game was only three days late from their side, and that Sony has to decide what that means for the release.
This aligns with the other information I’ve received about review copies and release windows, and further suggests that GT5’s ultimate new release date will be determined by Blu-Ray production schedules – not software development.

From GT Planet:

As the drama surrounding the delay of the PlayStation 3’s flagship title spreads around the web, one very important question remains unanswered: why? An official explanation will most likely never be issued, but that won’t stop me from trying to figure out this puzzle. First up, Taku Imasaki (North American GT5 producer) offers a vague look at what’s been happening on the “inside” via an interview with the New York Times:

“We’re really close, but this was an executive decision that was made yesterday. Realistically, we thought we had a good date. We’re not happy over here.”

This somewhat confusing statement wasn’t lost on the Times editor, who didn’t hesitate to add “there was also speculation that Sony might not have sufficient supplies of the game to meet demand in November”. This speculation was later supported by a comment from a Sony Canada spokesperson to Reuters Canada, clearly stating that “production difficulties were to blame for the delay”.
I have also been privately informed that review copies of GT5 were only briefly postponed and should still be in reviewer’s hands within the next few weeks. Better yet, I can report Sony is targeting a new release window within approximately 8-12 days after November 26th (“Black Friday” in the United States).
Keeping in mind that Sony presses their own Blu-Ray discs, and production time at each facility is carefully divided and scheduled between all of the company’s movies and games for the holiday season, I find the following theory most likely: 1.) Polyphony Digital narrowly missed its Blu-Ray production window, 2.) to prevent serious disruption of many other products, Sony must move forward with its schedule, 3.) an “executive decision” must be quickly made to find another production slot for GT5, 4.) the game’s producers are “not happy” with the inflexibility of the decision as it forces a launch delay, 5.) both Polyphony Digital and Sony can actually claim responsibility for the problem, and finally, 6.) Yamauchi personally apologizes to fans via Twitter

“Apologies for the delay. It’s because time and labor were spent ironing the kinks out of a complex system. I’m really sorry. Everyone, it’s inexcusable… Wait a little longer.”

Regardless of what really happened, this Christmas, when you’re blasting down La Sarthe’s Mulsanne straight, in the rain, at dusk, this week’s events will probably be the last thing on your mind.

Seems plausible.

I hope this game is like the second coming or something otherwise I dont think anyone will buy a GT again.

Reason for delay:

Like I said it is manufacturing issues. I had it confirmed today.

The problem arose when SCE mandated SDK 350 on all games releasing after after October, GT5 was about to go gold running on SDK 341, but it has been delayed by around a week so that they can update to SDK 350. This has caused a big headache for the manufacturing side, given how big this game is missing the gold date by even a week can cause a months worth of delay as slots are already taken up at this time of year for Blu-ray movies and such. So Sony had to find a 3 week slot big enough to make 7m+ copies of this and get them shipped out.

If you want to blame anyone, I would direct it at the pirates and hackers, SCE never had any real SDK restrictions before firmware 3.41 was compromised.

What is that music at the start? It really reminds me of something... like a theme from MGS boss battle or something like that.
