Gran Turismo 5

Is Germany really bad for getting games? I've noticed a lot of Germans order from abroad, same with Sweden as well?

it's horrible. we get covers with huge advise regarding the age, most of the gory stuff is cut out and the prices are ridiculous (it's normal to pay 69,99€ for a game - if i order from let's say shopto i pay a max of 50€ delivered to my door, uncut, with a short delay)

in this special case most of german retailers seem to know this will be limited quantity and therefore put the pricetag up to 250-260€ :) nice move, isn't it? amazon.de doesn't even list it.
found out by accident that amazon.fr was still taking preorders, so i gave it a shot.

Can't see why they're disappointed. They've taken GT4's cars and put all of them or whatever onto PS3. Usually you see games go from last gen to this gen and get gutted with the excuse being they couldn't do all of the content as it all takes so much more work.

I'm impressed they managed to recreate basically their last games car list on a new console looking as awesome as everything does.

I'm not impressed in the slightest that they've recreated GT4's car list.

For the quantity of cars there, the quality is terrible (as it was for GT4). There are more Skylines than Ferraris total, same for Lamborghini.

The amount of cars that are there that are just the same car but a year different is ridiculous as well.

I'dve taken 250 varied, individual, premium cars over 50 Skylines any day of the week.

I dont know if GT's setup is still the same as it was, but I much prefer the fact that there's a lot of regular cars in it compared to high end cars.
The whole beauty of it is down to customising and making a car your own, tweaking the setup for it to be just right for you. It's gives it a more realistic feel to be honest, as having a 96 Civic VTi that was tuned enough to take on a stock Golf Gti, or Skyline GTR was actually mirroring what was possible in the real world, if you wished to do that kinda thing that is. :P

Also you have to understand the Japanese development is clearly evident in the amount of Japanese/Asian cars in the game, especially the Honda's/Nissan's.

Oh I'm not against having normal cars, hell I've been a GT fan since the very start and discovered a love for so many unheard of 90's Japanese cars because of that first game, but the fact that there are so many duplicate cars takes the absolute piss.

You can't claim to have a thousand cars in the game when 50 of them are the same car with a different name, it's ridiculous.

Are the differences between the skylines just a different lick of paint though? Do they not handle slightly differently or have differences elsewhere?

They haven't.

Like in GT4 it's stuff like 00 V-Spec, 01 V-Spec II etc, they're the same car and the only thing thats different between them is a bit of trim that we can't actually see cause they're standard cars or the 01 might have different colours to choose from.

Look at the Mitsubishi 3000GT/GTO's in the list, there are loads of them and they're all the same car with a different spoiler or something, it's ridiculous.

looks like damage has been toned down a lot and in all honesty the game seems to be the usual bumpercars-riding-rails-fest with pretty basic AI, arcade'ish physics, few tracks and tons of shitty-looking Skylines ported straight from GT4.

Damage from a leaked retail copy (skip to 4:02 in the first video):

Was about to build my own driving seat/stand and drop 300 Euro on a wheel but fuck that, not gonna happen.

After all the hype about damage, thats disappointing to say the least.

Wont be rushing for a day 1 purchase, even if I had the money.

Same here, better to wait and see how this pans out.

So far I've seen nothing to differentiate this from GT's gone by apart from HD graphics. The car physics will have to be up to Forza 3 standards before I can even consider buying this.

as long as the preview material is coming from some shady leaked czech copy i don't give a fuck

waiting for some proper done tests

Well, I was remaining on the fence until it was confirmed, but I think this just about covers it :

One of the most repeated questions is about changing rims on Standard cars. No, Standard cars can't have their rims changed. Period. Forever. Sorry guys, but there are more than 200 Premiums waiting to have their rims changed, and I guess it is lots of dirty hands to be washed after only that number. Imagine 1031, no hands can sustain so much degreaser and soap And no, really no, Standards do not have interiors too.

Honestly? Disappointed. Massively. Bumper cam and hood cam are all well and good, but driving from within the cockpit adds a sense of reality to things - it becomes so much more immersive. It's nice that they've included it for the Premium cars, but the other 800 lose out.

Big shame. Saying that, I won't be buying the game straight off the bat, anyway.
