Gran Turismo 5

Kept everything on hold til now, gonna start building my own racing seat + stand and I'll be purchasing a driving wheel asap as well (any suggestion btw? What's the main difference between G27 and Driving Force GT?).

That rain effect looks friggin unreal even though it's prolly just a sort of advanced environment mapping (there's no trace of it on neither the windshields nor on the chassis of the car, unless you're using the cockpit view).

EDIT: DAT INTERIOR VIEW: http://www.gamersyde.com/stream_gran_turismo_5_tgs_eiger_rain_better_quality-17190_en.html

(although I'm still baffled that a rally car could barely turn at 30 Km/h).

is that it? Difference in price is huge (do both have force feedback?)...

G27 is overpriced. Not long ago the G25 was a great bargain. You try and find one, maybe used, if its in perfect condition.

Fantastic:

Driving a virtual near race-spec Lexus IS F in a just-completed GT5 version of the Nurburgring's full 24-hour race course (a world-first and highlight of the new game), which links the legendary Nordschleife (north loop) to the F1 GP track, Yamauchi did two qualifying laps. One, at 100 percent "game" speed, pushed the IS F to its limits and beyond on some corners. His time? Try 9 minutes 38 seconds.

"In the game," explains Yamauchi, "you have the luxury of being able to push the car to 100 percent, and not worry about going off. But in the real world, you must tone that down to somewhere around 95 percent, so that you retain a small margin for error. You must remember that you are racing against REAL cars at speeds topping 150mph with REAL hazards and REAL guard rails." So on his second GT5 qualifying lap, he drove as if he was qualifying for the real world, and posted a time of 9 minutes 48 seconds.

During the actual Nurburgring 24-hour race on the following day, behind the wheel of the World Car Awards' Lexus IS F race car, Yamauchi posted a fastest lap time of... you guessed it: 9 minutes 48 seconds, an unbelievable feat that had us all doing a double-take. His performance shows GT5 is as close to real world racing as you can get, without actually jumping into a real race car.

Given their dev cycle for this game it wouldn't be funny if a nasty bug reared its ugly head in the first week.

An update every six months would be interesting but someone other than EA and Konami would have to do it first and be successful with it.

Handling's seems to be way more grippy than before. If that's even a real word. Like right off the bat on that video - you can just tell there is a real feeling of grip on the tyres and the care takes the turns.

I plan on getting this wheel with the game, does anyone here have one or used one?

The G27 is expensive!

I can't afford that. I've got five 5/6 games on my hit list for the rest of the year so I can't spend too much on a wheel.

The GT is £80 and looks like the best in my price range.

I brought that the other week. Few teething problems on the PC, but I think that was mainly due to how I was setting it up in games.

Since then, its been awesome. The jog wheel works brilliantly (used it in GT5p and rFactor) and really adds a bit of 'realism' to games as you tinker with the wheel down a fast straight like a real F1 driver.

For £80, you cannot go wrong.

Only thing everyone moans about is the pedals (bit plasticky and flimsy) but I found them ok to be honest. Good carpet grip system too, they havent moved since I enabled it.

I have that wheel, I got it from play.com last Christmas for £49.99, you might want to wait and see if they drop the price again.
I have not used it much as I am bored of GT5P but I was very pleased with it.

I can't see that happening any time soon with the game coming out next month, GAME are restocking for release so their must be a demand for it.

I do wonder though, what justifies the price difference between the Driving Force GT and the G27?

Don't they both have the force feedback thing anyway?

g27 has a rev counter, more powerful FF, better material, contruscted and built like a rock, clutch pedels, H shift or sequencial gear stick that is seperated from the wheel so can be attached left or right side of u as far as or as near to the wheel as you want.
