Formula1

Oh my, Felipe, what was that? Good race by the RB and the Force India as well, sad to see their better driver being shot off the track in the last round.

My first instinct was that it's Massa's fault.

Canada, Race

Fantastic race once again in Canada...can't believe that they were actually thinking about ditching it after this race. Luckily they had signed new 10-year contract to host race this weekend.

Man I don't like Red Bull team at all, but I am really happy for Ricciardo. He is such a nice lad to watch, he is always smiling and he just seems so real, not that PR robot guy like most of guys in sports, not only in F1.

Also, on a bit of a sad note...Adrian Newey has confirmed to Martin Brundle before race started today that this is last season of his active involvement in F1. He never was in "my" team (Ferrari) but he is such a brilliant engineer, such a humble man and it is a big loss for F1. Although he has said that he is still actively involved in designing of Red Bull's car for 2015. that will be his last work.

Perez got a five-place-grid-penalty for the next GP for the collision with Massa. This is ridiculous, that was clearly a mistake by Massa and everybody analysed that this way as well. Who in the world judged that?

I don't know if you had seen replay from above..Massa's front wheel was parallel with Perez's rear wheel and than Perez moved slightly to the left and they touched. That is probably why Perez has been penalized

Sergio Perez has been judged responsible for his Canadian Grand Prix collision with Felipe Massa and will get a five-place grid drop for the next Formula 1 race in Austria.

Perez's Force India was running third at the start of the last lap when Williams driver Massa attempted to pass it into the first corner.

The front right wheel of the Williams made contact with the Force India's left rear, triggering a huge crash that almost collected Sebastian Vettel's Red Bull as well.

The Montreal F1 stewards ruled that Perez had caused the crash by changing his line approaching the corner.

"Car #11 changed his racing line which caused the impact with car #19 in Turn 1," said the stewards' statement.

Both Perez and Massa were taken to hospital for precautionary checks following the impact, but have been released unhurt.

Perez had run second, chasing Nico Rosberg's ailing Mercedes, for much of the race before beginning to lose ground with a brake issue.

Massa had led for a spell as he tried to make a one-stop strategy work, before pitting and falling to sixth.

He then made rapid progress to join the lead train before the clash with Perez.

It is one thing when you change your line while on straight, but you are just calling for trouble when you change your line in the braking zone, especially if someone is really close with you

I don't see any mistake by Perez there, he has a right to defend himself and probably even tried to cut in on Seb there. That remains an error by Massa to me, because he didn't calculate it enough that Perez might try to defend his position.

I don't know really...I still think it was Perez's fault, that twitch to the left is not what you expect when you start braking...if you choose the line than stick with it...but if it was me I wouldn't have punished any one of them. They were racing, fighting for position and they crashed. It happens, even to the best of them.

To be honest I'm not that concerned with who is to blame here. It's a fairly innocuous move by Perez, just one of those things in my opinion.

I'm more concerned with how the race stewards are throwing around grid penalties and other punishments like confetti. I'm also concerned by the lack of consistency and even-handedness of the penalties awarded.

Racing drivers are human and make mistakes. As long as the same drivers aren't making stupid errors time after time (e.g. Maldonado) then I don't see the need to punish every error. Let the guys race and accept that these things happen.

with that I agree. Also, it has been recently reported that Perez had problems with brakes and that his moving to the left was because of right rear brake failure. If that was true than this penalty is 100% undeserved.

I know lots of guys don't really like IndyCar because first association with it are ovals, but their stewards are at least more consistent and more lenient over accidents. Indy might not have F1's charm (at least not outside USA) but it is much more about racing and much less obsession with "perfection".

Also, in F1 they don't have same stewards at all races, but they change for every GP...no wonder there is no consistency in their decisions.

agreed. But that is something to keep race organizers happy if I remember correctly.

Btw, Max Chilton received 3-place grid penalty for spinning and taking himself and his team mate out of the race. I mean, come one...guy took curb a bit to hard and spun out...why would you punish him for that?!

It's ridiculous. However, Chilton blaming Bianchi for causing the accident by turning in on him is quite amusing. Chilton lost the back end and was drifting into Bianchi. What a fool. He's not good enough for F1 and doesn't deserve to be there. He should follow his brother and try his luck in touring cars.

I had a laugh in the morning over that with my roommate...he lost back of his car, took both himself and his teammate out of the race and Bianchi is to blame :FAIL:

Anyways, penalty is still ridiculous. He did not try to do something stupid, he just lost his car.

The majority of the penalties after racing incidents over the last two or three years is ridiculous. If you don't want that to happen, watch the WRC, it's hard for two cars to touch each other there. Chilton isn't worthy of driving in F1, he's merely a normal pay-driver to bring money into a poor team.

hopefully those 2 point Bianchi got them will be enough (if championship was to end now they would receive almost $40 million more in bonuses than at the end of last season) for them to take someone better than Chilton

Chilton's pre-F1 record is not particularly striking when compared to other drivers who have been very succesful on their way to the top. A few eyebrows were raised when he was announced as a Marussia driver. There were many more talented drivers in GP2 and FR3.5 that had been overlooked.

Conversely I rate Bianchi very highly. I'm sure mid-pack teams will approach him ahead of 2015. He should have a bright future in F1.

there has been some talking about Bianchi that he might, on Ferrari's directive (he is still part of Ferrari's development program and there are some rumors that Marussia got their whole power unit cheaper because they took him as driver), move to Sauber for next season, or even replace Alonso or Raikkonen it Scuderia if one of them decides to leave

I can't see Ferrari taking a risk on Bianchi next year. Not that I don't think he's good enough, but a year at Sauber would be a better path for him.

Still think Ferrari made a big mistake by not hiring Hulkenberg. Kimi is a rare natural talent, but I can't help thinking that at 34, he's a busted flush of a driver. He doesn't put enough into the team and has very particular requirements of a car. Everything needs to fall into place for him to get the best from a car.

Hamilton almost went to Red Bull instead of Mercedes in 2013

Red Bull's Helmut Marko has revealed that the team seriously considered replacing Mark Webber with Lewis Hamilton ahead of the 2013 season. Webber was contemplating whether to retire or not and Red Bull were lining up options should he decide to, with Hamilton a leading candidate. The Australian however chose to continue for another season and Marko decided it best to stick with the proven duo of Webber and Sebastian Vettel as he believed pairing Hamilton with Vettel would lead to fireworks. "We were considering it, but we thought it wouldn't work," said the Austrian. "To be successful, you need a certain amount of harmony." With Webber retiring at the end of the 2013 season, Red Bull chose Daniel Ricciardo as his successor as they believed he had proven his talent during that season with Toro Rosso and thought it a better option than to "take someone from outside" the Red Bull family.

Great news!! Michael Schumacher is not in coma anymore and has been released from hospital in Grenoble. He now has long rehabilitation process in front of him and his manager and family are keeping secret the location where he will be.

Some reports state that he has recognized his wife, but I haven't seen that one confirmed yet.
