Formula1

I doubt it will be possible for me to go see it live in near future, but I will try to catch some races online. I have driven those cars in rFactor though and I liked Audi as it was easiest to drive as fast as possible.

This year together with F1, GP2, WEC and IndyCar I have started to follow GP3, WSbR, WTCC and few days ago DTM. I found that DTM has their official channel on youtube and they stream races live there and keep them saved on the channel so that you can watch them later. Great thing is that they didn't block those races for Croatia so that I can watch them (Indy has that same thing too, but races are blocked for me and only highlights are available)

F1, DTM and ADAC GT Masters are those that I always see live, trying to view the WTCC as much as possible, but don't follow the series as closely as the three others. The rest isn't viewable in German TVs, if you -like me- don't own a satellite dish to get MotorsTV (one of the greatest channels ever btw). Always try to find highlights on Youtube, but too often these are blocked for German viewers.

Oh, forgot to mention: if you like racing simulations check out Simbin's Raceroom Racing Experience. They've got the DTM licence and ADAC GT and WTCC licences are coming soon.

WEC is getting some serious attention from car manufacturers. GT classes are always full of full blown factory teams, but now something similar is happening in LMP1, while more and more privateers are entering LMP2 class

In LMP1 we currently have Audi R18 e-tron quattro, Porsche 919 Hybrid and Toyota TS040 Hybrid, while Lotus is still having some issues with their T129 car that should have had its debut in Silverstone (1st race this season). They than planned to debut it in Le Mans (3rd race of a season on June 14&15) but there are still some problems so they will enter later in the season. Also, in 2015. Nissan will enter in LMP1 competition with project that is planned to be revealed this Friday. There are also rumors that Ferrari will enter in LMP1 competition with car based on LaFerrari model, but nothing has been confirmed. Also, one new car has entered LMP1 class at last race in Spa. It is Rebellion R-One car designed by Oreca and run by Rebellion Racing.

In LMP2 there are still old and proven cars: Oreca 03, Pescarolo 01/Morgan LMP2 and Zytek Z11SN who will be joined from Le Mans on with Ligier JS P2 (Ligier that was in F1) and DOME S103 cars run by various teams

EDIT: Oh and maybe we might start a new thread to cover all racing series' and leave this one for F1 only? Or ask one of the mods to rename this for racing in general as we have wandered into other racing series like Indy, DTM, GT or WEC..

I considered starting an 'other motorsports' thread in the past but wasn't sure if there would be enough interest.

This thread should remain the F1 Thread imo. That's where most of the interest lies.

Just reminder for everyone, in Monaco FP1 and FP2 are on Thursday, with FP3 and Qualis normally on Saturday.

Times from yesterday's FP3 and Qualis. Race could be interesting as nobody knows how long option (Super-Soft here) tires will last because they didn't have a chance to try long runs on them.

Good race today as usually in Monte Carlo. Bianchi's finish is a great success for Marussia.

On another note: All this whining of Lewis and Seb and Nico and Fernando nowadays is ridiculous. They should simply drive and stop trash talking about each other and the surroundings.

lol usually monaco is a pile of wank, today was more exciting than previous monaco races, there was some but not that many overtakes, i like hulkenbergs pass on a williams and congratulations to marussia, finally they get some points!!(only because half the grid retired though:P)

Yes, this years Monaco was far better than last year when they all tried to go as slow as possible for tires to last to one-stop strategy. This year we had Mercedes duo at front for almost 3/4 of the race inside 1 second, and behind them was...well everything. Brave passing from Sutil and Hulk, some wheel to wheel bumping between Marussia and Caterham at Rascasse corner and lots of mistakes, crashes...everything.

As for Marussia...yes, almost half of the grid had retired, but to win some points you need to first finish the race. Bianchi did fantastic job today keeping out of trouble and bringing that car home. First 2 points in a history of Marussia team and they are 9th in the championship in front of Sauber and Caterham.

And full race results, just for the record :D

Missed an entertaining race then. Was much better than that boring race we saw two weeks ago in Barcelona and many other ones.

it was interesting, in Monaco terms. Usually Monaco is shortest race in the season and it seems to be going on and on and on and on...this year it was entertaining.

Anyways, there were reports after the race that Tony Fernandes, one of shareholders in Caterham group was looking for buyers for whole group including F1, GP2 and Moto2 teams, road cars division, composites division and Technology & Development department. However, today Caterham came out with official statement saying that group is not going to be sold, but that they are instead looking for investers, partners and sponsors.

Rumor is that Caterham has financial problems, mostly because Aero7 road car on which they spent pretty big sum of money did not catch much interest with potential buyers.

I was just reading through few forums out there and I have found out that in late 2007 and early 2008 Super Aguri engineers came up with idea of Double Decker Diffuser complying with 2009 regulations that than won Brawn GP (ex. Honda, and Honda regarded SA as their B team to keep Sato in F1) both drivers and constructors titles in 2009. We can just imagine what those guys in Super Aguri team could have done if they had just a little bit of money.

Usually good start of the weekend for Ferrari, but they tend to forget their speed in their hotel rooms on Saturday morning.
Mercedes looked good as usual, although they didn't look like they want to compete for P1 in this, results-wise, unimportant session.
RB looked good too.

There was some scraping on the walls too, most notably Bianchi who bent his right rear suspension and was out of practice before time was up. Also there was some panic in Williams because of batteries of their ERS system on Massa's car. They put fence around the car in garage with signs all over the place warning about danger from high voltage. Than they had two mechanics with full length rubber gloves under the car working on removing the battery from the car.

I'm sorry to say this, because I don't like him and am a fan of Kimi, but without Alonso Ferrari would be completely helpless. It's a one-man-show he does for the sake of the whole team.

Well, Alonso has been with Ferrari for 4 years now (this is his 5th) while Raikkonen just came in this winter. Yes he had been with them before, but lots of things change in F1 during 6 years...he doesn't seem comfortable with the car and we all remember how he was slowish in Lotus until team managed to adjust his car so that he was comfortable in it. Although, on SkySports they were talking about rumors that Ferrari is looking to take in Bianchi for next year instead of Kimi or Alonso if latter chooses to go somewhere else

But why aren't they able to adjust a car fitting his desires? Would this really be such a big work that they would have to re-construct parts of the car? I doubt it, they still should be able to give him a proper setup with the given product. Kimi is such a great driver, if he struggles so badly something else can't be alright.

Well, I have heard Peter Windsor (once part of Williams team, now he's running his F1 show on youtube) that Kimi has very fine senses when it comes to feeling steering feedback, brakes and throttle. It was also commented by Sky crew few times this season. If feeling in his controls is not as precise as he likes it he just can't push as fast as he is able as he is not confident enough. Ferrari had already done some changes to power steering on his car (that is what he had most problems with when he started with Lotus, it took them more than half a season to fine tune power steering to his liking) but part that he is most uncomfortable with is Brake-by-Wire system that has been mandated this season. Because of ERS-K being double as powerful as KERS was and that it is not always constantly harvesting same amount of energy under braking drivers would have no time to adopt to different brake bias corner after corner. So, from this year brake pedal is not directly linked with brake calipers like before, but is linked to pressure sensor which is than linked to the ECU. ECU than calculates what braking force driver is asking from brakes, activates front brakes as needed, while rear braking power is than separated between ERS-K and rear brakes.

Quite boring FP2 session actually. Nothing spectacular happened, few missed corners, mostly from Caterham guys, and Magnussen nearly took out Sutil and himself. Maybe only surprise was that Ricciardo was that slow, finishing only in 12th

Only surprise would be really bad pace from Ferrari, considering their form in all 3 practice sessions

Brilliant race, disappointing ending.
