Formula1

Not sure, didn't like the DTM race at Moscow last year.

I think the problem is the DTM uses the short 'sprint' layout which isn't that interesting. The WTCC, on the other hand, uses the full GP layout and the races there have been pretty entertaining.

The Moscow Raceway is a strange case anyway. It was built with the aim and purpose of hosting the first Russian GP, but after all that investment it won't do that and maybe never will.

For what it's worth I think it's a decent track in the GP layout and would be a good F1 venue.

well, I have seen WSbR race on that GP layout last year and it was interesting as far as I remember. But than, it is not F1 and GP2 race in Austria was interesting, while F1 race was dull to say the least.

As for Monza, I don't expect Bernie would dare to drop Monza...even Montreal was sure to be dropped after this years race and than they confirmed new 10-year deal just before qualis.

Good and nice race so far, luckily Kimi seems to be ok. Was a stupid move by him on the other hand, reminds me a bit of Schumi's last year lately, always seems to act so odd. :(

What is really annoying me lately is this whining about other drivers, especially Vettel. Instead of complaining they'd better try to get past the drivers in front of them. This attitude is ridiculous...

Now that Vettel overtook him, Alonso is doing the same crying. They should act like matures and not like children.

This is something that annoys me about F1. The drivers are such whiners and always in a sulk about something. I realise the stakes are high and the pressure is on, but I would expect better sportsmanship and a more mature attitude from these guys. Compare F1 to a series like the WTCC, where all the drivers get along like a big family and have a laugh with each other, and F1 looks like a bunch of school kids by comparison.

Anyway, good to see Lewis winning at the home of F1. He needed this.

was really hoping JB could get his first podium in silverstone, fuck it was still a quite decent result though in 4th..
and when bottas went out in Q1 yesterday i didn't think he could finish the race 2nd, amazing drive:TU:

So, I finally had a chance to see the race, which I couldn't watch live because I was at work.

Kimi's crash didn't look that spectacular, but reports from tracks were that sensors inside the cat had measured forces up to 47G in the moment when he had hit the barrier. Luckily everyone managed to evade his car when he bounced back on the track with only Massa hitting him slightly.

For the rest of the race, it was fantastic work from both Bottas and Alonso. Starting from back of the grid both managed to take good points and Alonso might have managed to get on podium haven't he missed his spot on the grid for the start of the race.

That fight between Alonso and Vettel was great too, but I am very disappointed with both of them whining on radio about the other one being too agressive, running a bit off track etc. That is racing guys, and you are racing with a guy who has multiple world championship titles. You can't expect that he will just let you pass like he is some rookie.

Pirelli is today testing new wheels for next season using Lotus' car. New tires will have lower profile, wider wheels and rears will have wider surface for better control with those turbo power units.

Shame. I don't want the cars to become too grippy and easier to drive. It's been fun watching these guys wrestle with their cars more than usual.

I wonder if the lower profile tyres will require redesigned suspension as surely the ride will be firmer.

Well, current tires do most of the suspension work and that is the reason why they can drive with such hard setups. New wheels will need redesigned wheel hubs, brakes, suspension geometry, springs, lots of setup work etc.

Also, on the topic of suspension: FIA will ban FRIC suspension system (Front and Rear Interconnected Circuit) which was first developed in 2011 by Mercedes, but has been adopted by most of the teams since than. That system uses hydraulic suspension rather than mechanical springs and front and rear hydraulic circuits are connected together to balance hydraulic fluid and keep the car as leveled as possible. It is doing basically the same thing like active suspension (used in early 90s most notably by Williams) but is completely passive and because of that legal. Plan is to ban it for 2015. but it might be banned starting from German GP in 2 weeks. I find that absurd as it is clearly something thought to try and slow Mercedes GP down and make the championship a bit more interesting. I am not against banning it if FIA sees that will make cars a bit harder to drive, but do that when season ends, not in the middle of it when cars are designed around that system.

Agreed, banning something that integral mid-season is ludicrous.

I'm all in favour of anything that makes the cars tougher to drive. The act of driving an F1 car should be less clinical and more raw.

well, your last sentence sums up what most of F1 fans think when someone says "Formula 1". Our problem are engineers...they are paid to produce the fastest car in the competition, and in 99,99% of the time the easiest to drive car is usually the fastest one as well because when driver is confident in his car he can try to push that bit more. And you can't order engineers to forgot what they have learned through years.

Now that Vettel overtook him, Alonso is doing the same crying. They should act like matures and not like children.

Agreed. Heaven forbid F1 drivers actually really race each other anymore. Thought that wee battle between vettel and Alonso was some of the best F1 racing in quite some time.

Nico commenting Alonso - Vettel battle live while he was giving an interview
YouTube - F1 2014 - 09 British GP - Rosberg watches Vettel's overtake on Alonso

Anyways, about FRIC ban...FIA has agreed with (most) teams that ban will be applied from 2015. They can run the system if they want, but if someone files a complaint because of its usage they will be disqualified. 7 teams have agreed that they will not file a complaint on results, with only 4 teams without a statement on that (Sauber, Toro Rosso, Caterham and Force India. Later FI has stated that they will not use their FRIC system from German GP onwards, but still haven't said that they will not complain if someone continues to use it.

Although I'd prefer the F1 to race at the Ring every year, I'm still amazed how good Hockenheim is looking today again. One of the few courses, that were actually made better after renovations and modernizations took place. Great track, hope for a good race, near perfect conditions today (just a little bit too hot maybe).

Edit: What really is annoying me is the virtual "Berne says..." banner in the last corner. Sometimes it's there, sometimes it's not.

Totally agree with the above. The old track was overrated.

I think the Nurb-Hock rotation works well. Both great tracks that deserve regular F1 visits.

Edit....yes, the Bernie banner annoys me too. Actually all those virtual sponsor logos superimposed around the circuit for TV coverage are very cheap looking and quite distasteful.

Agree, still it's probably not economical for both tracks. :(

Good race today, so happy for Bottas and -of course- Hülk, great races by them again. And also kudos to Lewis, fantastic race, from 20 to 3 and this wasn't only thanks to his car.

Yep, entertaining race today. Lewis did the best he could. He hasn't had the best luck this year but hopefully he can get a win at the next race, one of his strongest circuits.

Will Bottas remain at Williams next year? I hope so as I want them back at the top of F1 and Bottas is a champion of the future.

....and if the Hulk hasn't earned a drive at a top team then I don't know what more he has to do. I know his size is an issue for the car designers but the guy is clearly a huge talent. I hate to see it wasted.

lewis was a bit lucky to get to 3rd tbh, treating all the other drivers like back markers, coming through the field he made contact with atleast 3 other drivers, sutil, kimi and he almost took JB out, it was quite bad luck his brakes fucked up in quali though so i guess luck balanced out maybe.
was definitely one of the most entertaining races of the season though, and if bottas move to another team, where can he go. mercedes and red bull definitely not. so i dont think he gonna move if williams continue like they are.
also, congrats to maldonado for earning a deal to drive for lotus again next season, he truly deserves it:APPLAUD:

What? Are you seeing a different Maldonado than me? This guy deserves many things, but no F1 cockpit for sure. Classical pay driver with money buying things when talent is missing.

I have finally seen the race and I was positively surprised. I expected it to be boring, but it was action packed with great, and few daring, moves from lots of drivers. This new HockenheimRing never disappoints.

I though about it for a second, but that smiley doesn't indicate sarcasm to me. Now I feel stupid again. :(

:D
