Football Manager Series

This was inevitable and most fellow members here already spotted the issues of this transition months ago.
The big problem is the "modern" gaming, the "modern" videogamers and companies. Us old CM and FM fans/users aren't disappointed. We can load up a 24-25 season data file in almost any other iteration of the last 25 years or so and play watching the dots moving. The postpone is 90% down to the 3D match engine and 10% about features.
Will the new game get a March 2025 release? Imo there's absolutely no way they'll release the game in March and if somehow they do they won't be able to charge more than £24.99 on Steam.
Best thing they can do now is to release a season update with updated ratings, players etc. This not as a new game but as an optional DLC within FM 24 which updates the game with all the above plus up-to-date calendar and league structures. A price ranging from £4.99-£7.99 might be fair considering the licences costs etc.
A DLC for that price is reasonable.

Reading and watching the amount of saltiness from YT FM content creators and FM community redditors about this delay is fucking hilarious. I swear to GOD, these people have rotted their amygdala from watching so much garbage on youtube. You would think delaying a game that's going through a very rough patch in development would be good news, but no, let's get on youtube and reddit and bitch about it like some virgins. Apart from FM Scout and Zealand, the rest can get in the fucking bin.

Let's say they release this game next month in it's current state. What do you think is going to happen? It's going to be Efootball 2022 all over again. At least SI have the awareness to do the right thing unlike Coinami. I can wait because unlike some people, I'm not entitled to a release date. This game will be judged on it's own merit when it releases, and when that happens, it will determine the future of FM, good or bad.

I get what people are saying about it being pointless releasing a new game in March, and I completely agree it should just be an update for FM24 at this point.

I also get that tweet about how it happened in 2003. However, things are totally different these days and they have just announced the new deal with the Premier League licence for a start. Wouldn't surprise me if they have to get a game out with some of the licences they have.

I read that licences is what would be a problem for any season update DLC for FM 24. But how Konami managed to do it so ?

Konami didn't release the first version of efootball 2022 in 2021, but in 2022. We only got the 0.9 as a beta version in 2021.

So releasing it in early 2025 isn't a real garantee.

They probably have obligations under agreement of using kits and badgs for the 2024-2025 season and with FIFA for the Club World cup that will be in june-july 2025.

With the delay of FM25 till March next year - I have cancelled my pre-order and will now just wait till FM26.

The lack of features and it seems they are having bigger development issues than they are letting us know.

I am more than happy though to continue playing FM24 as it is the best version of the game and seems most likely to be the best version of the game ever made.

Yeah, that's what I meant. I think SI should cut their losses and focus on FM 26. I know they can't do that but it's either that or hope FM 25 isn't a buggy mess.

I like SI but some of the decisions up until now been very questionable. Plus, it was very telling when they haven't released any beta or match engine footage.

Publishers have got to end this stupid practice of yearly releases for sports games because it's only hurting the product. Yes, graphics are getting better but that doesn't mean the game will play exceed expectations.

This delay is going to really mess up SI's yearly release cycle, surely they can't release this in April and then the next game in November?n Unless they move permanently to an April release window.

Apparently this release cycle happened before with one game in April and then another in October.
Not sure on this as never been bothered to factually check.

I will still keep my pre-order just because I have bought every single Championship Manager / Football Manager since CM Italia.
Also have every FM in Steam available and would be a shame to have a gap.

SI announces that no season update will be for FM 24. Licences and competitions rules are the major reasons.

This is so obvious I don't understand how people ever thought to ask for it - and besides that, new season data updates are available on every FM fan site (including quite a cool looking one by sortitoutsi.net, though I think it may be a Patron thing).

Also, do more work for free? Why? We bought 24, we played it, we can still play it... How entitled are we? I really don't get gamers sometimes. Surely you want them 100% focused on the new game. Otherwise we'll just bitch when the new game releases that they should have spent all their time on it.

What is the Patreon update?
I am a member of SortitoutSI and download the update regularly.

EDIT:-
Assume you are talking about this:

I don't remember well, was Konami planning a season update since the release of PES 2020 or it was because of the Covid they decided it in 2020 ! If then why SI can't do it with licences

Konami released a full new game? There never was a season update to PES 2020. This is how they got around the licensing issue by still releasing a game for the next season even if it was just a data update.

So if SI wanted to do a data update they would have to release a Football Manager 25 game

I'd be more inclined to agree with you if we weren't given bad news every week from SI. We're taking away this, we're taking away that, we're not releasing the game at all for another 5 months, etc. Unless FM25 comes out and blows everyone away, I'm skipping this version and will continue to play 24 and older versions.

They could have gotten a lot of good-will if we could have bought an updated database or, more crucially, a summer 2024 start date (I was never asking for it to be free). Aren't saves compatible from 24 to 25? Isn't the database mostly done by this point anyway, if the game was released on-time?

I don't know, I guess I've just soured on them. I appreciate the open communication, but if all of the communication is negative, I'm more inclined to move on (or, more accurately, move backwards to older versions!)

If they hid all of the omissions until release, we'd slam them - if they're transparent, we slam them - if they release the game in the middle of the season, we slam them and say what's the point - if they abandoned this year's game entirely (which they can't easily do due to licensing agreements), we'd say "well I'm not buying 26 now".

24 was/is brilliant - and free on Game Pass FFS (as well as Epic giving it away not long ago). They don't owe us anything, and with mods that add new season data available now, if you really can't wait, you don't have to.

I will wait to judge them until the game actually releases - cos the quality of that game is all that matters. Surely.

If they've dumbed it down and started aiming the game at casual players, I'll be equal parts furious and devastated, with no football games left to play. That will be game over for gaming, for me.

Until then, all they're trying to do is make the best game they can in the time they have.

Right, that’s my point, I will keep playing 24 because there’s no need to update. I was willing to give them a pass on a full-priced, wobbly 2025, but barring a huge turnaround, I don’t see it happening.

Not sure how the licensing works, but I would have happily paid $10 for a database update to get me through 25 or 26. Now I will just download a free one…

Console gamer here, missed out on football manager since the original XBOX, can I download it on a very basic laptop? miss my management fix.

A console version of FM24 is available, which is close to the same experience as the PC version (including the 3D match engine).

I occasionally play FM24 on a Surface Pro 3, which is a terrible machine, but it copes with the game and the 2D match engine.

bsmaff, it might be me but the graphics folders are empty, right? Are you still planning on updating them?
I've also been having trouble finding nice megapacks, specially 3D kits ones (even if from last season). Does anybody have a good tip for those?

Once again thanks for your work for the FM community!

Under their licence agreement, they can't provide an update which changes the season's calendar structure and competitions. This means they're not allowed to release a DLC for the current iteration which even simply changes the actual calendar to 2024-25. It would be a breach of the contract and prone to legal action against them.
These football licensing bodies are unfortunately brutal. It's absolutely shocking imo they interfere so much in videogaming while they're making billions every day and week.

Thank the heavens for modders. Always doing the Lord's work.
