Football Manager 2008

Sure, I'll fix it up with the missing stadia pics and upload it here in a couple of hours. Been meaning to do it anyway and it can be used in FM2009.

It's made for my resolution though, 1280x1024, so it'll be stretched on a widescreen monitor. You could fix them up yourself in Photoshop easily enough, you just make an action resizing the image to what you want and then apply it to all of them. I can even do that for you if you let me know what resolution you need, it takes an hour or so to convert them all though.

Wow, too kind sir :WORSHIP:.

My desktop resolution is 1024x768, but I play FM windowed, but it's more or less full screen, so I guess 1024x768 would be fine for me :)).

Much appreciated Chris!

I have the stadium background pics. It's nice to see their stadiums. I guess since I am new to the FM scene that I've been playing it alot lately. When I start, I can't seem to put it down.

How do i stop the game keeping the background for the team i am on all the time?

I only what the stadiums to show when im playing a game

You would have to edit the config file. Open it in Notepad, keep every line that has the word "stadium" in it, for example:
<record from="arsenal" to="graphics/pictures/stadium/5114336/background"/>

But delete every line that has the word "team" in it, for example:
<record from="arsenal" to="graphics/pictures/team/5114336/background"/>

The FM Weegie (unofficial) update is out on the 5th September, sometime around 4pm UK time. HERE (requires registration)

The official update is FM2009, the new game, which will be announced (including new features etc.) in the evening tomorrow UK time. HERE and HERE

Thanks mate. Any chance of you uploading yours somewhere CB? Or is it too big? SUSIE is fucking piss poor it just times out all the time! And while I'm here, anyone know a good place for FM skins?

yeh CB that would be amazing if you could do it for us..
this will really bring the experience to another level...

Uploading 1024x768 now, 45 mins remaining.

I'll upload the 1280x1024 ones as well, they're slightly stretched but I don't mind that. But they'll take around an hour and a half to upload.

I can't find the stadium images that don't work, I thought it was Swansea but their stadium image is fine. :eh: So if anyone spots the missing stadium let me know and I'll upload a fix. You can't spot it by clicking on each team, all those images work fine. It's the actual stadium image code that needs updating for one of the teams (when you play them in a league game the background will be blank).

The pictures I've added are English only, going down to Conference North/South. I've included the "worldwide superpack" as well though, plus English competition backgrounds - but these are stretched and won't suit everyone. You can just delete the folder if you don't like them.

I'll plonk the links in here when they're uploaded.

EDIT: Upload crashed, I knew it would... Trying a different site now.

thanx a lot man!
btw, what leagues does the worldwide pack cover??

Filefront was the one that crashed, I'm trying Filecoast now seeing as it's one of the mirrors we use at FIFASoccerBlog.

I'm not sure what leagues the worldwide pack covers to be honest, but there's 100s in there so it's enough for me. I only play in England and so far 95% of teams I've seen in things like UEFA Champions Leagues and UEFA Cups have had a stadium background.

great..
im playing in england too..so it will definatly do it for me too.

btw, im in the second season now..was playing great again, but than, guess what? tatic cracking pops in...im at 9th place now(same place i finnished the first season...) seems cahill and yaku dont like the winter, they get 6, 6 , 6, 6, 6, 7, 6 in the winter time.

It annoys me so much, I really don't know why I bother. So I bought LMA Manager 2007 off eBay the other day (like I said a few pages back) and... Now I remember why I bother, haha. LMA is a good little game but there's no depth to it, once you've got your staff in all you do is press "next match" 40-odd times. There's nothing to do and very little feedback from your staff and your players.

FM has so much depth, it's the deepest game I know with so many little things affected by so many other things, but when you start losing for no reason (when you have 20 shots and you lose 1-0 to a team that had 1 shot all game), you may as well skip the matches entirely and just get on with the buying and selling. It's piss poor.

I do hope FM2009 has a 3D match engine though, I don't know if I'll be buying it if it doesn't. They can say what they like about your "imagination" creating a better match than a 3D engine would but I'm sorry, that's bollocks. How do you know if a player's done a genuinely good tackle, or if someone's getting away with awful tackles... I know the text hints it to you but it doesn't tell you everything. A football manager doesn't work with a bunch of blobs, with a blindfold and a radio commentator next to him.

oh i had to mention that..

2 days ago i played newcaslte at goodison...i was completly trashed, the final score was 0x2(owen and toni!!) and newcastle had 14 shots agains only 3 by me...
than i saved the game as a new game, cause i want to play that game again just to see whats up with it...
i started with the same exact tatic, same for newcaslte...but this time seemed like we were 2 diferent teams...i crushed them 3x0(2 lavezzi,1 di maria) and got almost 20 shots against only 4 by them..now how do u explain that???? the same teams, same energy, same tatic, but 2 absolutly difernt macthes???? i think this game engine is random after that. theres no sense at all from what happened..i mean i can stand if newcastle dominated me again in the second macth, and i won in a counter attack, but to have a totally difernt macth(not talking about the final score) is unrealistic in this case. imo

Someone said to me on MSN yeeeeeeeeeears ago (possibly before I joined Evo-Web), "I love Championship Manager [as it was back then] because if you play the same match twice you get two different results". I've never understood the logic in that but there's guys on the SI forum who say that as well... :eh:

I realise in some games it is a bit too pre-determined (i.e. better team wins all the time) but that's how it usually happens in real life as well, there are times when the worse team wins but it's not entirely random, like you say...

exaclty..
i can see a senario where one team beats the shit of the other in the first macth, but in the replay(second macth with the same circunstances and tatics) the losing team can beat the other out of luck or a defensive tatic success(counter attacks).
but the way it happened is totally unlogicaly..all of sudden my team dominates them so easy, seemed i was playng a 2 div team.
anyway, i still dont know why, but im quite addicted with this game right now. after months not playing it, all of the blue i started linking it again, evan noticing those enoumous flaws  now thats something to think of! maybe im liking the fact the game is so random that its actually really hard to win a bloody trophy.(at least with everton, like in real life!)

Backgrounds (1024x768): CLICK HERE
Backgrounds (1280x1024): CLICK HERE

Use WinZip (so that the folder structure is preserved, tick "use folder names") and extract to the following directory:
My Documents/Sports Interactive/Football Manager 2008/graphics/pictures

Create that structure if some of the folders don't already exist.

Make sure you then reload the skin to see the changes (go into the in-game preferences and tick the box that says "always reload skin on confirm", then click confirm, then go back into the preferences and untick it again before pressing confirm one last time).

Both files need downloading and checking, dad decided to play FIFA online whilst I was uploading...

There's a couple of updates out already but typically in the first one I tried, Rangers new 19 year old winger on loan from Valencia, Aaron, is a 23 year old right back.

Next.

JB can you post your Skin because the one im using has a kinda grey background and you cant see the grounds very well at all

Thanks

Thanks

i already have flex i thought them pictures was of one you made that's all

I think yours looks better because its widescreen, mine looks shite

Is there anyway i can set the FM resolution higher without changing my desktop resolution?

I don't have widescreen! I've just edited one of the config files to allow bigger sections because I'm using a bigger overall resolution. If you look around SORTITOUTSI.NET you should be able to find it somewhere, or at least a guide on how to do it. I've totally forgotten how.

As for the resolution, I'm not sure if this will work if your desktop resolution is smaller than the one you specify, but this is what I do... I want "full-screen" to be the same size as my normal resolution, not 800x600 or whatever the default is (which looks awful on a decent LCD monitor). So if you right-click on the shortcut to FM and look for the "target" field, you can change it to this:

"C:\Program Files\Sports Interactive\Football Manager 2008\fm.exe" -fullscreen_width=1280 -fullscreen_height=1024

Give that a whirl, works a treat for me.
