Football Manager 2008

Well following 6 months without a job and watching Tim get his Leeds team promoted I should hopefully find myself a club during the close season, if I don't I may kill myself
 
I didn't think it would that much of a jump to the Championship, but so far this season I haven't won a game after playing 12 matches :THINK:.
 
I GOT A JOB, WOO. I got in as Peterboro boss but so far this season it's been a struggle. Life in England is different to life in Spain
 
FM is shit if your out of a Job

you may as well just put yourself back as another manager
 
Got Fulham to 11th in my first season. I'm hitting the offseason now and it looks like I need to pick up a targetman striker and a left back atleast. Would also like to pick up a playmaker in midfield and a stud CB.
 
It's funny how American's and European's use different terminology :))

"offseason" and "stud" as examples there.

Becanes if you need a playmaker bring in Luis Jimenez

Hes on loan at Inter Milan from Ternana at the start but now your into your second season you can get him in straight away, he only cost me 3.5 million as well

Check his stats you will be impressed :))

And back on FM, I can't get a fucking win for love nor money. I am Talavera, a crappy Spanish team in the Spanish 2nd division. I am generally playing a medium tempo, short passing game, 4-4-2 formation nothing special. Medium width to my play and medium closing down with a deep-ish defensive line and overall normal mentality.

Help.

JB is this a bug or somthing?
i mean im playiing my season with Master_W11 as Everton, i was doing great, got Everton to play like the real team(using their real tatic 4411 with cahill behind yakubu), bought senna to strenghten up my middle and everything was great, was only loosing to the big 4(except liverpool ,lol, 3x0 at goodisoon!)
anyways, i saved, holding the 4th spot with 12W 2D 4Lone point behind Chelsea and 7 behind the 1st place UTD, 2 days after it we started playing again, i had an EASY game agasint Hull (0W 1D 17L) at home...game ends up 0x0 with me having 23 shots, 11 on goal, but not one little goal to save the victory..i say: "Bugger" and kept playing...
for my surprize my team gets so cold, thats now 9 games without a win, and in most of these game i had like twice the chances as the opositin team, yet i loose or draw the game...im starting to think this game cheats somehow...
i mean my team was playing brilliant, cahill, yakubu scoring toons of goals..all of sudden they "unlearn" how to put the ball in the back of the net? WTF!

i really dunno whats happening...but im frustated now, holding the 9th spot with a team that was playing top 4 football just 9 games ago.

btw the high point of my season must be Jose Baxter, 14 goals in 12 games for the reserves and 3 goals in 3 macthes for the pros in the FA cup..wonderkid...only 15 years old..

Your hitting that time on FM, it always happens to me, it's actually the main reason why I stopped playing my Juve game, I got so pissed off I just stopped! It can seriously damage your league rank, unless you can re-do your tactic, or you could wait for your results to eventually come.

yeh...maybe by changing the tatic will help, but the weird thing is that my team is still playing good, the problem is that i cant score to save my life...
its like 10 shots on goal per game and only 1 goal...thats destroyng me..
i changed my strikers trainning to "intense finnishing" and still..they miss way too many chances, while the cpu scores every 3rd or 4th attack...thats so aannoying.

also, yakubu aint the problem, since he went to the africa cup and score a toon of goals for nigeria...that when he was in a 1 month goal draught in my team. i can only assume im beeing robbed :lol:

btw, one more thing pissing me off is that the top 4 AWAYS, and i mean aways score in the overtime against me..its absurd...there was a 2x1 loss to arsenal in the 96 mim, a 2x2 draw in the 92 for UTD and a 1x0 loss to chelsea in the 90 mim, thats absurd.
feels like cheat.

What's the Brit word for those? This is my first season this game, but I have played 3 other season before. So I can't take too much credit unless I can.

A stud CB is a CB who is really good. Sorry, I was using slang. hehe

I checked out Jimenez and he looks NIIIIIIIIICE! My problem is, when do I get my transfer money? I have no money to put a bid on him and 3 other teams are interested. And it looks like it will take 4.8 million to get him.

ull get money in the end of the season or if the boars feels like, once the january window opens.
 
you get it around the time the new fixtures come out

and if you don't get enough money ask the board for more

It's not a bug as such, SI deny its existence; the guys on the SI forums talk about it all the time, they refer to it as "tactic cracking" (i.e. when the CPU "learns" how to counter your tactics and from then on practically every team will beat you or force a draw).

I have given up on FM, it bores me to death now. I'm addicted for the first week, then it falls into the same old pattern and it's so predictable. There's so many problems, tactic cracking is just the start of it; what annoys me the most tactically is when all-out defence is basically like pressing a button that says "lie down defenders and let them win". You're 1-0 up, it's the 80th minute, you need the win. So you switch to a very defensive strategy, you tell your players to keep the ball (or kick the ball away constantly, either has the same end result), and they score in the 94th minute. If you don't play defensively, they score in the 94th minute. That really pisses me off, you are totally powerless and it's wrong. If I put five at the back for the last ten minutes, and played very defensively, I wouldn't concede a goal in real life - or at least, if I did it five times in a row, I wouldn't concede in 2 or 3 of those games MINIMUM. In FM you concede in nearly all of them, if not all of them.

Also, the underdog logic is awful. I play as Tranmere and I find myself able to defeat a few Premier League opponents, which wouldn't happen in this day and age, and then when we play someone from the leagues below us, they beat us (which happened in real life I know, but my point is, the underdog logic is far too strong - play someone around your position and it's easy enough, play someone from the bottom of the league and they will play like Manchester United).

I've invested in a copy of LMA Manager 2007, the last LMA Manager to be made according to Codemasters. I know it's not as good but I love manager games and I can't stomach FM any more. Even if it just lasts me until the FIFA 09 demo, it's worth it (only cost me £7 off eBay).

this game has the potential to get on our nerves...
its health hazard...
its just stupid that all the teams learn a way to counter your tatic..its like they all have a meeting to find out how to beat u...thats just plain stupid...if one or 2 teams found how to beat u ok....but all of them, including teams that youre suppose to beat the shit out...
 
Some of the Carling Cup results tonight prove my point, only one shock result out of all of them, there were tons of huge victories for the big teams (two 4-0s and a 5-1) - in FM all I see is close victories and shock result after shock result.

You can edit kit colours in the LNC files you know brunnoce, you go into the folder of the database you're using, then LNC, then make a file called "whateveryouwant.lnc" and put in the code. But, if I remember rightly (and it's been a while), the kit reverts to a plain shirt with two colours only - base colour and a seperate colour for the collar. Here's how you set it out:

You find out the TEAMID by going into preferences and ticking the "show IDs" box or whatever it's called, then you can see an ID number in the title bar for each player, club etc... KITNUMBER means home (0), away (1) or third (2), BACKGROUNDRED/GREEN/BLUE refers to the RGB code for the background text box and for the main shirt colour (so a non-blinding red would be 200 0 0), TEXTRED/GREEN/BLUE refers to the RGB code for the text colour and for the shirt trim colour (so white would be 255 255 255). I may have background and text the wrong way around, not 100% sure, so you'd have to experiment.

After each code ("COLOUR_CHANGE", TEAMID, KITNUMBER etc.) I'd recommend you press TAB to create a little gap. Here's a quick example of my own colour changing LNC file:
