Football Manager 2008

I've just signed Steve Gritt (ex Charlton :DD), as my new ass man at Leeds. Steve Staunton was managing the reserves well, but in terms of the first team, he was about as much use as an ashtray on a motorbike. When I had a touchline ban in the pre match team talk he said nothing to 10 players and just told Harry Kewell to "pick up where he left off". Useless tosser. (That could be said of Kewell or Staunton.)

Anyway, when searching for my new ass man, the attributes I looked for where tactical ability and motivating :TU:.

Here's one from mine and CW's game last night I spotted.

 Quality, if Derby get drawn against Moorcombe in 2010 - make sure you go! ;))

I really need to get Leeds promoted this year. We've got the squad capable of doing it, they just need to pull their fingers out and put a 20 game unbeaten run together.

we wont be in the first round of the cup in 2010

that's reserved for minions like Palace and Charlton :))

ive signed 5 brazilians who are super amazing for blackburn...they get here...need WP...what the fuck...spent over £25mil on these players

other dude M'Bia for £7.5m...is awaiting citenznship from belgium but hasnt tken it yet :(

Right, I've made a 2008-2009 season update for Football Manager 2008 - you might think it's daft making it when there's a month of transfers to come yet, but if I wait until September then I'll be too busy playing FIFA 09, or the FIFA 09 demo at least.

It's based on another guy's 2008-2009 database, which covers the whole of European football, but he'd not really done a thorough job with England, without meaning to sound disrespectful. I've took out all of last season's loans and injuries, and completed all the close-season's transfers and loans that have happened up to four hours ago, plus added this season's injuries (for the Premier League at least), tidied up the big teams' player numbers for the new season, etc... Makes a world of difference.

All the players who have been let go are there to snap up rather than being at their old clubs, which makes it very interesting, starting as a lower-league side especially. It really is like a new game, with so many new players to pick up for free and having the choice that the real managers had this year (as long as you play with a medium/large database). Makes it harder to understand why Tranmere have only picked up shite players so far...

When using this it's best to play in England for at least the first season with this database, as the other countries will have some of last season's loans and injuries. I only play in England so I've left the other countries as they are in the update this one is based on.

I've been working on it non-stop for a week so hopefully there shouldn't be very many errors, I've been into every English club's squad. I may not do another one because I've started a game now and there wouldn't be much use in it for me, but if you do see any errors, let me know.

Chris, I've been editing my Db since the end of the season, and I've actually done almost every 'major' league thoroughly, including Serie B, Championship and Portuguese league, as I've had random urges to play in those leagues. I've also done most loans I could find. I based it on a Weegie update from May and built on it. I've also done some stat edits based on the data forum on the SI site, based on researcher's opinions, but this is only on a few players.

I just started a game with Parma in Serie B :D

If anyone wants, I can post mine, its up to date to about 2 days ago.

Sock it to me baby, sounds good.

EDIT: Shame they can't be mixed really, your major-league updates with my lower-league updates. I thought I'd done a good job until today, I found a list of 100s of released players, and I found out that ex-Kidderminster player Jeff Kenna had become player-manager of Galway United, amongst other random discoveries and retirements. So I got stuck into it again and it's very accurate now, just a shame about last season's loans and injuries in foreign countries.

Why didnt you both just save time and download Weegies update thats updated every week and includes all world transfers, loans, retirements, future transfers ect?

Yep. Just submit any missing transfers and stuff to the Weegie team and they add them to the next update.

That way we get to use all of CB's discoverys as well as Stef's updates that he does.

Saying that, FM 09 is out in two months anyway.

If the update I downloaded was based on one of these, which I think it was, there were a hell of a lot of free agents still at their old clubs. Either way it's done now, and I've started losing games for no reason (as you always do when you get a good run going), so I'm going off the game again.

Because Weegie miss out so many details and stat changes. They've missed out so many Serie A transfers and contract details and don't do their transfers in depth. On my own db I've customized so much, including new colours, team names, competitions etc. Even updated finances, loans, injuries etc.

Hey guys,

I've just played the demo of FM 2008 on Xbox 360, and it's looks so wonderful and terribly difficult at the same moment. I have time to learn it, so that's no problem. Only ... Is the released version of FM 2008 on the Xbox 360 that worth to buy it?

I know most of the managergames are much better on the PC, but my PC isn't good enough.

You might be better waiting for FM 09, but sure, FM 08 on th3 360 is fine if you're PC can't play it well enough :))

I am going alright with my Leeds this season, 5th after about halfway though the season, (we've just hit January 2011). I'm winning games that I should and putting up decent fights against the better teams. I beat Worcester 9-0 in the FA Cup - they should stick to making sauces. Really need to get promoted this season! My job status is stable so I should be ok ;)).
