FIFA 22 Discussion (Console Versions)

It‘s just awful, isn’t it? The ball leaves a player before he’s had time to swing his leg. And that’s what the FUT people like.

Read that again: the ball leaves a player before he’s had time to swing his leg.

How are you ever going to make a game that looks anything like football if you’re okay with that philosophy?

the number of fast one touch passes and backheel passes near and inside the penalty box are horrendous from the ai
can they even try to take a long shot?

There's no "skill gap" in scoring long rangers! You have to prove your skillz by breaking down a defence and walking the ball into the net. Never mind that doing that is no big deal when 10 players just ball watch and there's zero resistance for 90% of the pitch or that there's no real gameplay difference between an OP assisted through ball and a long range shot when it comes to the "skill gap". That's how dumb competitive fifa is! 🤣

It looks like a new training regime with few house rules
1. Teams take turns in attack
2. You cant tackle
3. You can only take the ball when attacking team lost the ball or GK saved it
4. You can only shoot from inside penalty box

Sounds like fun!

I already know that barring a miraculous patch of unprecedented proportions that will make this a completely different game, I will not be touching this with a 10-foot pole, but here's a CPU vs CPU video at "Slow" speed for your Sunday morning entertainment. (Probably using competitor mode as well).

Jesus that’s hideous. Slow speed?!

Yeah it’s safe to say I’ll not be buying fifa again this year

They even added "timed finishing" to try making the long shots "skill based". I'm surprised we haven't had "timed shot stopping" yet to balance that, where pressing the keeper rush button at the perfect time makes your keeper do a superhuman save. This is the kind of thing I legitimately expect them to add to the game within a few years. Whether a shot goes in or not being a contest of timing mini-games between shooter and keeper.

In their "deep dive" one of headings in the defending section was "Fair and Predictable Outcomes" - this approach surely applies to the rest of the gameplay too. Same situation, same inputs, same result. Matches being as predictable and similar to one another as possible. Isn't this pretty much exactly the reason so many people thought PS2 FIFA gameplay was atrocious?

They may have more intricate gameplay mechanics and animations now, but they're deliberately limiting and scripting/manipulating them to try to make them produce a similar variation in outcomes to games from 20+ years ago because that's "fairer".

If they just want a fully fair/predictable skill based football themed video game for esports then they may as well just do an online 11v11 version of SWOS. I don't get why they add all this complexity and stuff supposedly in the name of realism to culminate in something neither realistic nor "esports ready".

A lot of the stuff they wax lyrical about in gameplay "pitch notes" and "deep dives" are attempted solutions to problems created by the mismatch between the base gameplay design/code they're working with and current gameplay vision which obviously clash because the gameplay base is 15 years old and was created with and built upon for years with a very different vision in mind.

Even if they're going to make some esports joke of a football game, I wish they'd at least start again from scratch and build it in a way suitable for what they want it to achieve, and execute it well. At the moment it's just an amalgamation of years of gimmicks and ham-fisted gameplay balancing hackjobs built on top of unsuitable ancient gameplay code.

Oh I forgot about that. A dumb gimmick at the time, like "manual keepers", mostly forgotten now but somehow still a thing. Same will happen to their 2nd man press cooldown. It's amazing how many dumb gimmicks they're willing to introduce when it's clear as day they're garbage ideas the second someone first proposes them.

If someone new to football games views all the different options and input controls for fifa he might think it's a complicated flying simulator. Little would he know that in practice it's just a primitive Pong clone for 10 year olds.

I wonder why they persist with Frostbite when even the FUT Zombies prefer the FIFA games on Ignite.

Again it's because every team has the same tactics in the beta. Even Burnley by default are set to play out from the back (slow build up) and possession tactics when in the opposition half. So they won't take long shots.

The speed needs to be toned down but that's a-whole-nother problem.

but I can't see any 'play out from the back (slow build up)' from the ai :LMAO:
and it would be horrendous if possession tactics mean ai need to have at least 10 quick one touch passes around the penalty box before taking a shot
what are the other tactics options then? Will counter mean even faster and end to end football?
thats worrying

Yeah that is true! I think it just means they won't play it long and when the AI defending is so bad combined with no teams pressing effectively, teams can just quickly play it forward. So why go slow?

Honestly think this game now is just catering to online crowd. Esports and all that rubbish.

I was watching La liga then EPL. Comparing EPL was like+2 speed. They need to sort out defence and gk and it can be a good fresh game. I love the nets and ball psyhix when it hits the net

I can't share any videos of the beta, but with my sliders, it didn't look like this crap!

AI makes long shots, and I have no ping pong passing. By default, the game have a really fast speed but you can easily fixed that.
I would like to see some nice videos with real nive gameplay from the beta, but i haven't found from now. Only fast games. You can have really nice games but every year only shity gameplay from the beta is going out on videos....

What a mess!

Such a great analysis.

I honestly feel like I can the echoes of ps2 gameplay in fifa 20. Certain animations. Certain ways the player might kick a shot. And I can see plenty echoes of ps3.

It feels deathly.

mate does ai stay close to your attackers? on fifa 21 I can easily get free from them while recieving the pass and shot after that. this is on legendary btw. maybe is from the sliders I use but they make the game playable for me, of course they cannot "fix" everything...

Any fouls?

If you take posts about each game mode (on the 22 beta forum) to be an indicator of their popularity and/or the size of their community, which I broadly do (with an acceptance that there will be a large number of FUT players who are kids who just want to play FIFA early, with no interest in providing feedback)...

What would you guys imagine the order to be? I'd have bet: #1 FUT, #2 Volta, #3 Career Mode, #4 Pro Clubs.

Have a think, then take a look at what the beta forums look like today:

I got 0/4...

If any offline player wants any hope for the future of the game (forget this year, honestly) - then... I think there's hope in this.

There's clearly more interest in offline play than I'd have imagined.

Can we not read the forum if you arent a beta tester - what kind of points are being raised in the career mode section

There is probably little feedback on Ultimate Team for the following reasons:-

1. The game is absolutely perfect for them.
2. You can't spend £1000 a week at the moment trying to get Messi, so I expect the amount trying this mode is lower.

Personally myself except for a few games on Career Mode, before getting completely bored for the same reasons Career Mode sucks every year. (Complete lack of realism).
I have mainly just been playing Kick Off and trying different teams, although I also haven't played it since Wednesday as the game is just pants.

The game is absolutely perfect for them
Thats true, but EA knows that.
They dont even have gameplay feedback in FUT section of the BETA forum, but they do have it in Career Mode. Which still, against all odds, gives me hope that we might get something in the future.
I think F22 is almost a closed chapter and Id be very surprised if they suddenly changed their approach now.
For next year, however, its all on the table.

Ps. Havent seen our slider expert for a while.
@Matt10 - are you still around, pal? Would like to hear your thoughts.
I've seen that you walked into BETA forum like this
4RqGBx.gif
Hope you are not giving up there. There's much more push from offline players this year and there are signs of mild curiosity from EA, so if there ever was a time for a final push - its now.

For next year, however, its all on the table.

The thing is, with every passing year it's harder to imagine turning fifa into a football game. The gameplay should be split ideally the year EA embraced e-sports (Fifa 17). Failing that, here are a few more missed milestones:

- Fifa 19. Welcome to the new tactics system. Exaggerated and pes-like / rigid. Teams no longer even changed tactics during the match. Play 15/16 and marvel as they waste time by the corner flag or launch desperate crosses depending on what's actually going on. How do you even reverse that now? How many people complained about that?

- Fifa 20. Say goodbye to the defensive AI. Fifa is now officially not football.

2 more years of that garbage and now they are also promising "fairer / more predictable" outcomes. The complete opposite to actual football. After 3 years of no defending the only bone they throw to the offline players is not an actual game option, but a survey for the defensive AI. So, a final push now for what really? They almost need to make a separate game now and dedicate more resources than ever if it's to go back to a decent football game. Too many people accepted an unacceptable game the previous years hoping next year it will be better. But it's always worse.

Even if they could add all the missing defensive AI back tomorrow I'm not sure i'd like the game. It would just take it somewhere close to 18/19 levels I guess... so depends what you think about those games. 😅

For getting separate gameplay offline. Either a switch in settings, a separate mode, or much more indepth sliders.
There's a lot of stuff going on now.
Pes no longer being Pes and going F2P, new gen consoles, new "AAA" "Football" game on the horizon (however shit it might be)
EA must be watching all this and planning ahead.

You can slowly take away stuff from people and some will moan, some will get used to it, some will help themselves with sliders and mods.
You take a bit more stuff, you get a bit more noise and so it goes.
This year it looks like they went above and beyond to fuck things up for offline.

Now - not only we dont have fouls and there is no midfield. Now there is no defense either. The whole line just backs away, almost like they just wanted to stand on the goal line.

Its such a clusterfuck that even EA themselves are not sure if its a right direction. If they didnt care - they wouldnt create a specific part of forum for Offline Gameplay Feedback. Why would you do it if you didnt give two fucks what offline people think?

And then there's survey and specific question about teammates defending which most likely will be polarised between its awesome (from FUT) and its dreadful (from offline)

I cant remember last time I saw EA asking about any offline gameplay feedback.

Whatever their plan is - they are asking and this might be the last chance for offline players to be heard.

I agree, the survey is not about that though. They could be simply wondering whether to increase the 2nd man press cooldown timer thing by 2 milliseconds and call it a day. But yeah, a push for these things should be made.

That's 20 & 21 already. There's no midfield since 18, the whole line retreats since 19 (the new tactics system), and there's no defensive AI since 20 (maybe it was a gradual thing but 1v1s were introduced in fifa 20). So I don't see why they fucked things up this year in particular. Maybe 3 years of the same shit is too much for those who expected things to magically get better?

But yeah there's still a good chance this will be even worse: It looks even faster, there's actually more skating and who knows what their "fairer & predictable outcomes" feature does to the game.

Oh I know that, pal.
What I meant was - this years footage looks worse than last 3 years combined. Much worse.
Up until now it was frustrating and there was lack of football logic. This year it doesnt even resemble football anymore. Its like some new type of "sport" where whole defensive line is going back while all midfield is going forward, basically creating canyon of sadness in the middle.
You can take bricks away, one by one and a house will be in bits, but it will still look more or less like a house from a distance. But eventually there will be this one brick when it will all collapse.

I didnt enjoy Fifa 19/20/21, but with heavy sliders (and a lot of alcohol) you could still play a season or two. I did.
But this... mutant that came out as BETA... This is unwatchable. Static defense is ridiculous, but you can switch between them and do all the defending yourself (as frustrating and exhausting as it is)
But when all your players are literally running away from the ball....thats unplayable.
And lets not forget that last 3 years BETAs actually looked promising. Final version was always worse.
So yeah - I stand by what I said. This year they particularly-fucked-up.

Yes AI stays close to your attackers, with sliders marking to 85/100 it's works. On champion and Legendary. No open gate on 20 matchs on the beta with Rashford, Mbappé, Sala, James. Impossible to have this on FIFA 21.

If you want to fix midfield, you have to change some values, reduce game speed ( passes and shoots). Put game on "slow" didn't work, since FIFA 20.

I have made 4 games Yesterday and in each match, faults were there! Not many (2-3 faults) but it's a start. I think the game speed was reduced too, I have the same game speed when I played on the afternoon. Maybe a patch because all modes are open now.

They must-MUST slow down gameplay ... on those first trailers it look's OK, but on that AI match (even on slow speed) looks unplayable.
