FIFA 22 Discussion (Console Versions)

I played this against friends over the weekend and I really didn't enjoy it. The fact he kept picking PSG made me laugh, at least try other teams.

Anyway, it just felt very end to end because Fifa (for me) tends to reward that type of play instead of playing a more tactical game, pace really is king. Tackling just feels do disjointed over the past few years, something doesn't feel right or satisfying with it. Slide tackles are practically useless as the AI reads your input, and against another person they are pretty easy to avoid.

I just don't see any improvement personally, the game was much better years back and felt more fun to play.
Yep. Novelty factor over already for me. It’s a bit of a mess at times.

I tried it online too and default speed is horrendously bad. Seasons matches are shit fests.

Good point about slide tackles. I rarely, if ever, use them in Career Mode. No point, I never connect with the CPU and it’s dancing feet. I can’t even get my own players sent off.

FIFA as a series is a bit of a parody of itself these days.

Hypermotion will have more features in 23, the question is do you notice Hypermotion in what situations and what new features did you want for the future using Hypermotion?

I like the new update. Haven't touched my sliders but difference was there and I saw it immediately. Game plays more cohesive, compact and what I liked the most, ping pong passing in front of goal is gone, now ai tries to find space and break the defence. That was my biggest issue with previous update becouse somehow ruined the game for me. I enjoy this a lot now :)

***Old cynic post warning***

I have no idea what HyperMotion is. Took myself to watch the gameplay reveal again from last July as a refresher and I'm still none the wiser. Basically just a catch-all term for the changes made and new features* introduced?

*Old and/or expected features with a new name like Advanced Tackle Detection System™.

If you play Fifa 21 and then straight to Fifa 22 you instantly notice how much more realistic all the animations are. Fifa 21 in comparison is so archaic.

There are multiple aspects, imo.
player animation transitions is one key area where it shines. I always called for „zero-stich-animations“, now I have them. It’s just called hypermotion because 2k probably got the rights to the zero stich stuff! :D
Then there is the whole team shape behavior that is much more towards the real thing. I always called for a ”breathing organism thing”; now I have it.
then there is player interaction with the ball and the transitions! Much more fluid. more organic.
can it all be better? Yes sure (flaws are still in), but it’s a good start, imo!

Really liking the new update. Its always a worry that they will mess it up but can safely say its good. Dribbling is vastly improved. I feel like they are getting closer to PES 6 each update its like a Fifa 10 WC and PES 6 lovechild.

Me trying to play a game on a snowy pitch with a white ball:

Seems unlike EA to omit having an automatic red ball for snow games.

Otherwise I think this game has become a bit more fun, I have quite a few free kicks now and my 2nd division career is not as impossible on world class.

Does my nut in! White balls, white kits - anything goes.

The Scottish league's ball is always yellow, but even it is hard to see. What's even more annoying is that (I think) there's at least two 'snow' weather conditions - one where the pitch is a little snowy and a regular ball would be fine, and another where the whole pitch is covered and you need an orange/red ball.

I believe the last update has been a good one. The defense is better at keeping its shape after the update. Defenders follow attacker runs less often and much less deeper. Also the defense steps up higher than before. You can see that players are taken off side more often. As a consequence, the CPU has less exploits available and you can see it crossing more often than before and using a bit more of midfield play.

Here is a short video illustrating the defense stepping upper and players not committing to deep runs. This is with default sliders and depth at 50.
Sorry for the quality, I am still trying to figure out how to capture properly my videos on the SX.

Great! I just had 8 offside in my last match. Thought it was the sliders/depth setting but hopefully it’s a result of the update too that they’re now stepping forward.

I’m not so sure it’s much better in terms of run tracking deep. Played some now on default. Still seeing it happen a little too often unfortunately (default and sliders). It isn’t all the time, it never was.

Update doesn’t seem bad in general though, still loving the game overall.

Why can't EA update player appearances more often? Kovacic still has his Real Madrid look with longer hair.

Werner has Lego hair as well rather than this new hair system they implemented for a selected few.

Placebo or am I seeing some more low shots after the update?
when i played late last night (usually the speed up time), AI played a tad calmer as i was used to on WC (played PSG:BAY as this is a sure "frantica"). as they are not ping ponging their way to death (when near the pen area) anymore... but going back to the sides and starting a new approach or shooting from outside... i had some beautiful low AI screamer missing the goal.
not sure what to make of it yet but i noticed.
i felt with 004 the AI played a bit slower... like when i set the game to slow but more subtle. turn animations took a bit longer and such... (wich i really liked)! anyone felt that?!
gimme some more physicality/inertia and the foul/collision system from 16 and i'd be a super happy chappy! :D

on world class im still conceding too many goals on the 6 yard box area. Where there is a striker and my defensive line is almost next to my goalkeeper. I have 100 height, all defenders to step up and even assigned my defenders to join the attack with the teams mentality set to attacking as well.

Last gen: Since TU2 (or maybe 3), I've seen a big increase in backspin on shots (and thus rising shots that're hard to keep down from range), before that a lot of my long range shots had lovely dip on them, struggling to hit it from long range and keep it under the bar now.

Yeah my 'last man' pretty much marks my goalkeeper when the CPU is on the counter attack, playing everyone onside. Means that - by the time I've switched to him - I'm fending off at least two players.

Nice to know that someone else has done the experimentation with the settings cos I sure as hell can't be arsed. 😄

Doesn't happen that often though as usually the CPU goals are instead off the back of incessant possession.

Incessant Possession - good name for an album, that.

I only see this on world class , not tried legendary , professional is nowhere near as obvious but the one thing that really grates me about professional is the AI defending were they randomly stick a leg out in some.lame tackle attempt. Overall the games great just needs a couple of things ironing out.

No idea what Hypermotion is either.

(Series S next gen) One of the most noticeable things for me as I take a lot of long shots. Shots that my FIFA 22 muscle memory 'knows' are going to be close, now rise vertically and go way over. It's a balancing decision by the devs, expected but still disappointing. Every year FIFA gradually nerfs long-range shooting as the year progresses and they decide that 'too many' are going in online. FIFA 20 was the last FIFA I played a lot before this one and it was especially noticeable there.

Here's an example with my sliders and the tactical fix that I posted yesterday. To my eyes, this looks quite solid. No ping-pong, no excessively deep lines, nothing too frantic. Played on World Class.
...Oh I forgot to change the ball, which is why you'll see the Premier League ball in a Champion's League game!:FAIL:

i just love that attempt of yours at 4:38min! :D what a lovely missed shot...!
happens to me a lot and i can never be mad about it. playing with shot error like in the V7 set now (afair its at 68). its more versaitle then...
the Ronaldo attempt to dribble in the beginning of the video looked good too.
i really like to see the AI bringing more crosses in.
still some low passes around the box but a more direct approach at goal by the AI. 1,2, 3 passes followed by a "finishing move"! really digging this! another step forward, towards a more organic game! nice work pal! :APPLAUD:

Yeah I'm playing on World Class too. Funnily enough I've just seen a perfect example of the issue on Reddit:
