FIFA 22 Discussion (Console Versions)

Its weird, just when I seem to hit the sweet spot, suddenly the game becomes stale or other issues start to pop up. For example weirdly these past 2 days the CPU attacking patterns are becoming repetitive (e.g. someone dribbling diagonally all the way to the wings and tiki taka triangle around and then try to do a slide rule pass into the box.)

Which value sliders can alter the CPU's attacking pattern decision making? I know you mentioned pass error. Anything else?

Much appreciated Matt
Pass Error is the most immediate. Then and user width for our set in particular. Run Frequency in some cases too.

Thanks. Similarly, would shot error change the types of shots they go for?? And will FT error also decide how much they dribble??

Sorry for the avalanche of questions.

Ffs... Thought I'd try online seasons with manual control settings no opponent found. OK I'll try semi... No opponents found... For God's sake does everyone need bloody stabilisers? Also every single time I do play I'm always playing fecking PSG...

Yeah I had the same "luck".
I'd like to get into some sort of Manual Online Competition, but there's no such thing.
All you can do is add few people from here and just play online friendlies when possible.. :/

Quick question: Are the objectives in career mode still bugged? I'm top of the league, brought in some youth players, improved financials and yet my confidence rating keeps dropping (currently around 50). I did miss the objective of reaching the round of 16 in the national cup, but that can't explain the low rating, can it?

Apparently this seems to be a known issue in career mode, but I can't see it being mentioned among the fixes in the patch release notes. Therefore I wonder: Do I have to start a new career? Will it even help?

@Mathgamer Any whispers about a change from EA for defenders holding their line better? It would be the single best adjustment they could make to the gameplay! Such an easy fix as well.

They need to stop tracking all of these runs. Midfield would improve instantly.

All those bubbles when playing at the London Olympic stadium....
Using the Pro cam, it feels like playing the bathroom stage on micromachine.

had to replay that WHU:LIV fixture last night... and it was fun (003 with v7)!
when i get it now, that there are bubbles at the beginning of the match... THEY ARE COMING BACK at the 2nd half kick-off!

i did not cancel the match at half time... i kept on playing and enjoyed it a lot. lost one match playing LIV 3:1 and drew a second match, playing with WHU at 1:1!

Sorry to say that this game has gone seriously off the boil for me. (All offline, Career Mode.) Suddenly the mostly wonderful feel from the first 6 weeks or so just isn't there and things seem to have devolved to a somewhat stale feeling. The last update has to be the culprit as thing were still pretty good until then. The update before that one brought fouls with it, and I seriously thought that's it, FIFA 22 is complete. Naïve of me I know.

I thought it was the sliders (my own custom settings) and returned to Default, then experimented with OS sliders and tweaks of them, but all this seemed to make it worse. I switched from Tactical to Legacy Defending and back again.

Just over the past few days I've resumed my long-running PES 2021 ML save, and started a side-hustle on WE 8 via an emulator. I didn't know how empty I was until I was filled.

I won't give up on FIFA 22 – call it the sunk cost fallacy but I've got 3 seasons of a created club CM invested and want to see through. I'll try it again in a few days and see.

yes don't give up. I've also experienced some staleness a couple days go but it feels a bit better with today's sessions.

If you persevere with it, you could recreate some great lifelike goals and plays. Which is worth it in the end imo.

Scored a couple of true to life organic deflected goals where no two ball trajectories are the same

I've had some sessions like this especially in career mode. My suggestion give it a few days then go back to kick off and play with default sliders and tweak from there. Yesterday I had some amazing games and earlier this week i was finding it hard to enjoy some games.

I'm a bit tired of 22 as well at the moment. No set of slider gives me full satisfaction and some of the shortcomings are start to be more obvious. I'm giving it a pause for some time.

I'm playing some matches every day but I never have a full fun. Yesterday I came back to Pes2021 for two matches and it is still more enjoyable.

I'm eking out my 10 hours on the PC version (at about 8 hours now) and if I play a couple of Kick Off matches in that mode they're always great: superb handling, satisfying passing and shooting, and with a feeling that I never want the simulated 90 minutes to end.

My Career Mode on the console (XB|S) is with a League 1 side and still with terrible players in season 3 (the acquisition of better players is slower in CM). I wonder if the recent update adjusted how lesser-statted players handle? Or is the non-Hypermotion PC version just better? I will keep tinkering for sure.

Against the AI, I also prefer the PC version. It is not without bull shit, but the AI is more varied (they do cross yes yes, and do shoot from distance more often). It feels like they are using less the exploits. Probably because the defense doesn't follow run too deep and they stop retreating at the entry of the box, instead of deeper. May be also because they can't make 10000 decisions in a split second, which makes them a bit more predictable, thus fairer.

think after about 30 games of career mode I might have had enough.

On slow speed, world class difficul and operation sports sliders the game actually balances quite well and the play varies a lot, it's good to see missed chances from the AI and some different tactics.

The thing that ruins it for me is there is a switch somewhere which just tells the AI to go into a mental "we're going to score" mode. It happens a lot when the second half starts but they just ping pong it faster than you can defend and switch players and score and that's that.

I've tried lowering the difficulty to professional but the AI defensive positioning becomes erratic and you just can just run at them with ease, especially down the wings.

So I'm at a position where I just can't find the game enjoyable to play. I even booted up clubs and dropped into a game but the default settings for the game at normal speed are ludicrous, how can anyone play that ice skating arcade game on rails is beyond me.

I wrote about this a little on my slider thread, but I've found that a change in tactics has a positive impact on the midfield.

I know editing tactics isn't ideal, but it only takes a minute or so per team and you can save this adjustment as a different team sheet, so you can easily turn it on or off. I did an entire league in about 15-20 minutes.

Why the change?

- We know that teams can retreat too much and follow their attacking runners a lot. This pulls the entire defensive line back too easily and too often, and we end up with lots of repetitive types of gameplay patterns (around the edge of the box).

- The way the line gets dragged back creates a gap between the midfield line and the defensive line and this allows that ball to be played through so easily which is why we keep ending up with that similar gameplay pattern.

**This tactical fix doesn't mean every team plays the same or look the same, I look at it as a correction of base positioning**

There are 4 steps:

1.
Go into Team Sheets and create a new team sheet. Call it 'Height'.

2. Raise the Defensive Depth tactic -

Go into Tactics, and raise your Defensive Depth. The lowest depth you want to select is 75 and the highest as 100. So Burnley for example I would select as 75 and Man City, Liverpool, Man Utd, etc 100. I use values of 75, 80, 85, 90, 95 or 100.

3. Select the 'Step-Up' Instruction for ALL defenders.

4. Make sure you select the 'Height' team sheet as active. You need to see the Star next to this one (triangle activates it).

...and repeat for each team you want to make the adjustment to! All other tactics remain exactly the way they were, it's just 'correcting' this position.

IMPORTANT: I've only tried this with my slider settings, so if it plays differently on other settings or on default I'm not sure.
You can find my slider settings here: https://evoweb.uk/threads/anths-fifa-22-next-gen-simulation-sliders.88993/
If you try it on default or on your own slider settings and it's awful, give it a go with my settings before you write it off completely, as I think the combination of my settings with the adjustment helps.

Notes:
  • This helps, but doesn't completely solve the tracking issue (you will still see it more than you want to), but the correction of base position definitely improves the overall positioning and midfield game. It provides a more varied and difficult avenue to goal.
  • As the defenders step up now (and are higher), we decrease the space between the midfield and defensive line more often - instead of increasing it with those tracking runners. This leads to more interceptions and more defensive resistance.
  • I haven't found the space in behind to be exploitable in my games, but I like how you have to be more aware of your positioning now. Hypermotion works well with the adjustment as teams do still organically drop and shuffle based on context, but it doesn't just constantly drop off all the time now.
  • It helps with ping pong passing around the box - purely as we aren't constantly presented with gameplay patterns around this position.
  • I've noticed less passing accuracy from the CPU with this set. The congestion of the midfield leads to more misplaced passes.

I've had some great and varied matches with this adjustment, significantly less end-to-end patterns and realistic shot counts.

I just played what was easily the most scrappy midfield game I’ve had on 22. Man Utd v OM. Lost 1-0 to a late goal. World class, 10 min halves, manual. I only managed 3 shots all game, CPU only 9. 51-49% possession. 77%-85% pass completion, 7 fouls. You have to earn your shots now. The CPU kept me right away from goal all game and played some very nice football.

I know the game isn't perfect, but I'm still really enjoying it!

Hopefully this helps for some people.

Update now live on consoles.

hopefully the game returns to being good again because it’s been a chore to play last week or two. Not enjoying it at all.

I just reverted to default sliders and it felt more dynamic and challenging on legendary

The players are more grounded and you can feel more inertia. But this only lasts until the next squad update or play session

I played this against friends over the weekend and I really didn't enjoy it. The fact he kept picking PSG made me laugh, at least try other teams.

Anyway, it just felt very end to end because Fifa (for me) tends to reward that type of play instead of playing a more tactical game, pace really is king. Tackling just feels do disjointed over the past few years, something doesn't feel right or satisfying with it. Slide tackles are practically useless as the AI reads your input, and against another person they are pretty easy to avoid.

I just don't see any improvement personally, the game was much better years back and felt more fun to play.
