FIFA 20 Discussion (Console Versions)

I'm finding hard to choose which one to play: FIFA 11 for PC, which is basically FIFA 10, blew me away back in the day but got blown out of the water by FIFA 12 which in turn got hammered by FIFA 14, which is the only one that can really compare somehow with FIFA 16 now... But I find shortcomings with all of them:

FIFA 11 for PC is too fast for my standards, even on 'slow, and you often see opponents rocketing at you to win the ball like there's no tomorrow. @MafiaMurderBag I don't know which is the last-gen platform you're using, but... Is FIFA 11 any different on PS3/Xbox 360? I might aswell give it a try.
Yeah totally different, It's quite surprising to see you base your impressions on 11 off of the PC version. The PS3 version introduced 360 dribbling, Better animations & more match options such as the net settings for the first time. But yeah, 09-14 is the period where each game took great strides improving year by year from a technical standpoint, But slowly the arcade philosophy creeped in more and more; subtly.

I still have to try FIFA 10 for PS3 in a proper way (and I also have the two World Cup games to try, haven't played much with my PS3 lately), maybe it'll be the one to surprise me.
I look forward to hearing your impressions, Especially on WC 2010, I've been playing that most of this week and it's enjoyable in hindsight. Don't compare it to other or later FIFA's - Just enjoy it for something that came out in 2010 when PES was still on a hybrid PS2 engine and FIFA started to take a realistic approach to football, especially as WC 2010 actually had a different producer with his own core values he would apply to the game.

Eh, it's the only one that I have, for now.
I'll go hunting for a PS3 copy of FIFA 11 then and see the differences.
By the way, IIRC also FIFA 10 for PS3 had 360° movement (for the first time I guess).
I'm also curious to try FIFA 09 to see how "rudimentary" it was, compared to FIFA 10.

I'll surely try also that game as I actually own it.

Thanks for taking the time to answer! :))

Yeah where ever you find it, It'll cost less than a bottle of water.

You may be right but WC2010 doesn't have true 360° dribbling, So i assumed FIFA 10 didn't, But this was one of the most demanded mechanics in both PES & FIFA at the time, The next evolutionary step it seemed amoungst the community.

I had a lot of fun with 09 this week too, It plays really good football and i remember how critically acclaimed it was for the time.

Also, The nets are amazing in FIFA 09 - It's mind boggling how they seemed to get worse for a couple of years after this.

It's the same for both games, though, when it comes to AI. Without making this the comparison thread, I read @Mikhail talking about how PES's CPU were passing around at the back in one of the Twitch feeds of 2020 and I thought "yes, finally, the AI will be worth playing" - so I went to watch the feed and... they were only doing that after kick-off. The rest of the time, your players are in an attacking phase when the AI get the ball, and so they just counter, counter, counter. Direct passes straight forwards, every team. Absolute shite. (In my opinion.)

That, on top of the AI bullshit I posted in the comparison thread earlier, just kills it. Two wrongs don't make a right but my point is, it's a bit annoying to constantly read that "FIFA's just shit" when...

A) I honestly think both games are as bad as each other but in different (sometimes opposite) ways, and B) we all end up going "fuck it" and buying the games, telling ourselves it'll be okay (which I'm definitely doing at the minute, as is everyone in the PES thread) - but it never lasts, because they never really move on.

The only solutions are either A) both games take a year's break, B) new engines (hopefully next year for both games), C) a third football game competitor comes along and makes something amazing (which would probably take years to get right anyway), D) we all start playing online (which is exactly what they want) or E) we just stop playing football games.

I got a lot of joy out of FIFA 19 and hope to do the same with 20 if the gameplay's just a little better (the pace is certainly better, or at least, it is in half the vids). If not... I'm addicted to Football Manager again...

I have thought about taking a year off. Although it turns out I'm getting both games gifted to me and won't.

I reckon I could get by with old games no bother, but I yearn for a decent experience with an up-to-date Aberdeen. Without creating the whole team and league myself.

Remember when we couldn’t assign squad numbers in FIFA 08 I think it was.

That was infuriating. Your new star striker wearing the no.2 shirt!

I cancelled my pes 20 preorder, just don't have the time to set it up the way I'd want it, better to pick it up for 20 quid at Christmas when the option files will all be fully finished

For all fifa 20s apparent faults (we still haven't played a demo yet) it still has every going for it on the licensing front (plus 120 stadiums) and with sliders it will be still possible to get a balanced game v the AI

ALL ABOARD THE HYPE TRAIN CHOO CHOO

Option Files a worry for me too, after learning the first ones are unlikely to have real names for all players.

I’m going to wait until @mfmaxpower gives his feedback on how challenging/lack of challenge FIFA 20 Career Mode is.

I’m pretty sure I’ve got the right guy here so correct me if I’m wrong dude but you play default assists and no sliders, Ultimate and found FIFA 20 too easy I think?

So I’ll be very interested in your Career Mode findings with FIFA 20.

They're always half arsed at best in the first month , makes me laugh considering when we all made them for pes6 for free every last detail was perfect before we released anything, now you get a v1 v2 v13 etc and have to pay for the privilege

after playing FIFA 2020 beta as much as I did.. I still think FIFA 18 > FIFA 19 and FIFA 2020 online beta still.. with that said I will continue to buy FIFA every year because I play pro clubs often and enjoy it. (best mode in sports gaming history and it's not even close) this is really the main reason I still buy FIFA every year... and well online interface, in general, is still superior to PES because of its popularity and ease to get into matches and play with friends. PES is not on this level and probably never will be. I will say though if I only played offline like some of you here on the forums. I would not buy FIFA anymore.. well not this year at least because I think its a downgrade or to similar to FIFA 19 and like I said I still think FIFA 18 is better. I do not understand those who play offline only and choose to play FIFA over PES. that is strange to me. but I respect everyone's opinion. after playing both Demos a lot I personally hope PES2020 is very similar to the demo as compared to FIFA 2020 I hope it's different than the closed beta. that's my verdict on the 2 games so far but as we know the games sometimes change a lot from the betas... especially in PES case the last few years which I thought both times the PES beta was better than actually game when it released. and contrary to FIFA I actually thought the last 2 years that FIFA was better than the Demo's when it released.

Each game has its pros and cons and I play both for different reasons. I will continue to buy both games and enjoy both. For me, it's easy to buy and enjoy both because these 2 video games are the only videos games I ever play anymore consistently at my old age of 42 now. for me it's no contest .. both PES and FIFA are the 2 best sports video game every year. FIFA is one of the best online video games.. not just sports games you can buy every year. I don't think anyone can argue that. If you love online gaming.. Fifa is a must-have game regardless if your a footie fan or not. I have introduced soo many people who don't watch the sport live but yet love FIFA because it's basically one of the best online competitive videos games you can buy every year.

Cheers man. Yeah, I usually don't mess much with sliders, or if I do usually it's not until months after release when we're past all the patches and I'm getting bored. I found the beta gameplay to be more challenging than 19, but def not as much as I'd hoped. Fingers crossed...

If true quite odd. Matip is arguably the 2nd best Cb in Pl behind a VVD. Yet only 82. But the clown mustafi at Arsenal is 83!
Firmino being lfcs most important player in the front 3 is only 86.
Good to see Mane and Gini upgraded to 88 and 84. But Mane should be in 90s along with Alisson, Salah and VVD who are.

I’m trying not to look at these with my scouse specs on but....

Bernard of Everton is 80 - really?
Martial of united is 83 - madness.
Sigursson of Everton 83???

Good to see Tielemans of Leicester get an upgrade to 80. Probably should be a bit more though. Class player.

Do wonder where they get these scores from.

Liverpool should be the highest rated team in the game but they wont be,they must do it on a a sliding scale to balance out the "big teams" against the smaller ones, Serie A and La Liga teams are always overrated as i think teams in the Championship are on par with most of them

You drunk or just plain ignorant?
The past 10 years
Champions League titles
Italy 1
Germany 1
England 2
Spain 6

Europa League titles
England 3
Portugal 1
Spain 6

Which means England and premier league's is on par with Germany/Italy/Portugal

Pretty good getting all those titles with teams that are on a EFL level right?

And Troy Deeney/Jamie Vardy is obviously up there with Messi/Ronaldo as top scorers as well.
