FIFA 18 (Console Versions)

EA have put a lot of work on sliders this year, They work fantastically!

Full manual world class with some tweaks and it's football heaven really, Would have liked to see more fouls and more fatigue but so far I've been impressed really.

Nice! What slider settings and difficulty are you using? I want to try everyone's favourite settings to see if I like them better than my own. :D

I really do not understad so many glourious comments. I tried the game and it is too simillar to other Fifas that i got bored of. What i cant't stand the most is cartoon moving on the pitch, no weight - will they ever fix this? they need new engine or what? an animation after scoring a goal when you control the player is so unrealistic. I really tried.. Sliders plus manual could be eventually standable.. i played only like 5 games. Also the colors are really wrong, day time is better, but night looks totally wrong. Shooting and nets are well done.
Everything i wrote before, You can throw to the trush. I gave the game a chance. Visually in 2k and dx12 game is beautifull. Turf looks so good, in dx12 You can see part of the grass on the pitch. Some faces could be better. I love the daylight, night is on some stadiums too dark. Gameplay on slow and full manual + sliders game is just brilliant. So many random situations, realistic deflections, psyhical battles. I have all the time draws, wins, looses by 1 goal, max 3 goals in the game, so less ocasions to score - on world class. I really wish they made all stadiums for La Liga and Bundesliga - it is a shame the did not, and that nightime... Really a great game.

careful, you'll annoy the "I changed my view" police  ;)

Anyway, I have also gone back to this. Forget game with sliders against CPU, it's immensely boring.

Online is sooooo much tighter since the patch oh my days. Can't wait to try co-op seasons.

It's refreshing to see someone change their view after giving it a real honest go (not to say you didn't before). I think we're all looking for some form of football in the virtual world, and FIFA definitely delivers that experience this year.

In other news, anyone have any idea why my game is buttery smooth, but when I record using OBS or Mirillis Action that it is constantly micro-stuttering? Have sent in my dxdiag, updated drivers, the works. Kind of frustrating as my streams and recordings stuttering seems to go non stop.

here's most recent video, with the updated sliders:

I still can't get into the game at all.

The defending is so annoying, and I found the reason why I seem to dislike it is down to the block tackle just isn't effective anymore.
But the postioning of the players is just awful and allow lots of room for through balls to be played, which when the CPU plays them is just too effective as your players seem to have brain freeze and stand like statues when played so the CPU can get there first.
There has also been times when you can't move a player chasing a ball either the CPU will control your player till he finishes where the through ball takes, even pressing the buttons to cancel the run don't do anything.

Passing is horrible this year with through balls you do never going in the direction you push, but to the player the CPU feels it should go to, although this sometimes works in your favour, it is completely annoying.
I also play on Semi passing, as don't like the instant 1 touch football of automatic, and not hardcore enough to learn manual - But Semi this year feels like playing on manual from previous years as passing always goes a little of target to the point that I think I should try manual.

Also tried Career mode for the first time and EA have made a few changes for the worse, but luckily I play on PC so some of the issues like Fog of War can be rectified.
Personally I don't like the whole Transfer Hub thing and liked the ease of completing transfers in last years version.

There are some positives in the game though, I do like that crossing has been improved and allows more variation to scoring.
Like the new mistakes keepers make, people probably don't play lower league games, but seeing keepers miss punching the ball and then allowing easy headers into the net, makes lower league games much more realistic.
EA finally fixed the long range finesse shot going in every game, which was badly needed, even Lloyd James could score these and he hits row Z in real life.

If EA can just patch the over scripted passing and defender postioning then I think it would be better than previous versions.
They also need to fix the bug where when a ball is nearer to another player you can't switch to that player, it has happened 3 times when the ball actually hits the legs of said player and then bounces off him for the player your half controlling to collect the ball.

Hopefully now the so called Dynamics don't mess up Football Manager.

Enjoying the gameplay but find it way too easy on legendary in career mode im using a weak team and outplaying Napoli and Juve with ease I tried adjusting the sliders all in the CPU favour but still I dominate them what gives? Im not even a great FIFA player i usually reach div 3 or 4 on FUT and thats my limit

I guess the only answer is manual right?

I used to find 16 a bit too easy on professional but didn't like world class and above (professional was more human like ) I upped the AI acceleration and sprint by one to give me more challenge ..not sure about 18 though ..legendary is good but a challenge for me

first attempt , i think it mirrors real football with higher lines and teams lines playing closer together with the DM being an important player plus good covering and movement

to play an authentic south american style within their leagues id drop the lines from 75/80 to 25/20 respectively as they usually play deep and drop off, you’ll notice a difference straight away

Yes. Assisted is wank. ;) No, but try manual. It makes the game flow way better, in my opinion.

Manual is fake. It's making every player's stats irrelevant. It's about how long you hold a button down and where you point the sick. Football isn't about that, it's about differing players abilities on the field, not off of it.

FIFA is best online for me now. The future of football gaming needs to be catered for online. Human v human Career Modes please.

I had the most intriguing game of video game football earlier. I was Man City, opponent was Man Utd. I won 1-0 with a penalty.

The game was so interesting and exciting. CPU just can't offer that now. It's dated. Single player is archaic, it's never going compete. I have accepted this now to enjoy FIFA.

Wait till you play against Crewe Alexandra or a really lower rated team.

you need more ram maybe

is anyone else finding the cpu strength/physicality absolutely gamebreaking? i'm using goalgerd's sliders--terrific, truly--on world class, 8 min halves, all semi/full manual, but i get bundled off the ball nearly every time in possession. i'd say 90% of any sort of coming together results in me losing possession. totally maddening and something that's really taking the life out of the game for me, especially after finding a slider set that matches my preferred way of playing.

With Tottenham, I find that Alli and Eriksen in particular will get brushed off the ball easily but Wanyama won't which is quite realistic. When I started using L2 however it became easier with them to hold off players. I use it now even if I'm in front of the defender to shrug them off.

This is really silly. The future does not need to be catered for online. I'm an offline player and always will be. It's not archaic in the least, all of us came from offline status not that long ago.

As long as people continue to exploit and "cheese" the gameplay online, and play in a completely unrealistic manner, single-player will never be archaic.

I will be able to squeeze 2 years (console defo more if I had it CPU)out of FIFA18 because I am strictly an offline player. Andromeda MA which got demolished by the young online set and as a result cost me just 20 dollars brand new and is a title I play as much as FIF18 and is one of the best single player RPGs titles I have recently played besides Witcher3 and Fallout4 is a single players dream. Both FIF18 and Andromeda will firmly take me deep into the calendar year of 18 in which I will be patiently waiting for Red Dead 2 Spiderman and will buy Horizon Zero Dawn new for 20 quid if my estimations are correct.

Single player is archaic.I almost crapped my pants when I read that.

You couldn't be more wrong if you tried, you still need to use the player's correct foot, you still need to be facing the direction you want to pass, you still need to have the correct body shape and have the ball under control, all those aspects are determined by the various stats such as ball control, balance, passing stats etc. etc. etc.

The future is all about online because that's what 80% of the playerbase is about now. Whilst this is the case, EA will always focus on getting online right and making sure customers are happy with it.

They don't care about single player. Look at FIFA's single player - it's still laughably bad, with and without sliders. It doesn't represent football in any way, shape or form.

How anyone can play 12 months against a predictable AI, I'll never know but each to their own.

I would love and online career mode. It would be immense. Actually signing players from other real players. I know we have Ultimate Cheese but I don't mean that. I mean something similar to Career Mode but, erm, online!

Some players are stronger than others , kante is a beast for Chelsea and bossed the midfield against me. Using R2 and right stick did win me a few free kicks though. Also on sliders in my opinion first touch really affects individualism. At 56 hazard was hardly in the game just blended in. At 52 he was a different player, running at abd through my defence

As an only single player guy, the answer to this is pretty easy.

Because many of us wants to replicate real football as best as they can, and against another random opponent online, well it's hard because most of the times people cares more about the win than that, and exploits unrealistic tactics and/or just what's op at the moment. Not that there is anything wrong with it, but it's not my cup of tea since I want to see more something adhering to a proper match, and it's much much easier achieving this against the cpu.

When, or more likely IF (probably never) somebody will make a football game that will force users to play realistically then I'll be all over it, in the meantime if I'll feel any need to play a meta and what's op at the moment I'll reinstall League of Legends :D.

p.s. again, since what I just said can be easily misunderstood, that's not to criticize who plays online, I'm sure the experience could be fun and deep especially if you play against a similar minded friend. But I think it's undeniable that searching realism against a random online opponent it's still harder than adjusting your slides/difficult level offline and play at whatever rhythm you feel like. And this applies to both games of course.

You make good points.

However, I have given up hoping for a good career mode. Even in FIFA 18, all the bells and whistles are there - but the actual gameplay gets repetitive so fast because the AI is awful both with and without sliders. (Sliders just turn the game into this weird, zombie like football game after spending a good few hours with them.)

I actually love co-op seasons the most in FIFA. Me and a buddy v 2 other randoms is so much fun.
